After an extensive search online I inquired with chef David about a gift of a private chef experience for my parents this Christmas. David immediately responded to my request with a personal call and we discussed options and dates. We ended up getting a 4 course experience for the 4 of us and he offered our 6 yr old's meal included at no extra. After the gift was delivered he scheduled a call with myself and my father to discuss the choices. This process was the best because when guided us both to amazingly complimentary foods. At this point we added 2 extras to the experience which chef accommodated at an extremely reasonable up charge. Communication was over the top great which is essential for putting on an event like this. Chef was on time and made himself at home in the kitchen. So on to the food.... Amazing appetizers, The mushroom caps with sweet cheese and pork, could have eaten 20. The ahi tuna crostini was unique because of how tiny the cubes of avocado and tuna as well as the quality of the tuna... the light sauce capped it off, it was just fantastic. The second course was a goat cheese fresh spring salad. With strawberries. I forget the dressing but i don't like salads and I finished mine first. Third was a beef tenderloin with a special Demi glaze, Kahlúa green beans (amazing!) and Gouda mashed potatoes. Everything cooked to perfection. Final course was key lime pie with a homemade whipped cream. My aunt joined us as well and has been making key lime pies for 30+ years. She said it was better than any she had made. Can't forget the kids meal. He made fresh, yes FRESH crispy chicken tenders with Mac and cheese. We said she doesn't like too overwhelming flavors so he pulled back on some of the salt etc. I have never seen my daughter mow down mac and cheese that wasn't Annie's from a box. The kids food was solid and made from scratch. Top notch. Chef cleaned up everything and was out the door within 30 min of us finishing our meal. can't recommend David Hill as a chef and it's unfortunate because I had so much hope for his services. I contacted him during my search for a Christmas meal. He was prompt in his reply, though more expensive than 2 others by several hundred dollars. My husband and I save for a Christmas vacation every year and decided it was worth the hype and splurge. It was not. The mashed potatoes were DEFINITELY from Costco-I buy them all the time in my shopping there so to get them at a cost of over $700 was a bummer. He threw chunks of smoked gouda in there which I guess made it more expensive. We arrived to our delivered food and an email. David was too busy for over $700 to deliver our food so there was zero presentation I'd anticipated from a chef. His dad delivered it instead and per David's email, "he forgot the goat cheese, candied pecans, and a dressing for your salad, but you'll make do. My dad is old, LOL." Yup, for $700 we got an oh well and a laugh from David. I didn't mention the keys to our vacation rental being open; I guess his dad didn't have time to make sure they were secure. Or he forgot that too. I still wanted to believe he was too busy to be professional so I asked him for SOMETHING back. If he bought the food his dad forgot, we were entitled to the money for those groceries. David said $25 "because of the time to deliver." David never sent the check. If he had, I wpuld have considered a review glossing over the unfortunate realities of his service. I can't recommend the food of other local chefs, but I can't recommend you can count on David Hill. The food was good but he'sreally left a bad taste in our mouths. read more

Planning a surprise 50th birthday party made so much easier (and tastier) with Chef David. Our guest list was to be approximately 30-35 people for a sit down dinner. David asked questions of me and encouraged my questions as well. Over the course of just a few conversations the menu was planned, number of servers, etc. He directed me to a great rental company for needed items. Even that company helped me plan details. The food was exceptional, the servers/bartender were attentive, well trained, eager to please, the kitchen cleaned, extra tidbits wrapped up in the fridge even. Hi Chef David!  I just want to thank you for the amazing Mexican-themed dinner for my hubby's 40th birthday!  Everything was perfect!  The chicken enchiladas and mahi tacos were so delicious!  Our guests were raving about your dinner the entire weekend and were so appreciative.  We were even able to enjoy the leftovers for lunch the next day.  You and your team were very professional and really put Ben and I at ease to enjoy spending quality time with our extended family instead of worrying about the kitchen, so thank you for making yourselves right at home!  Preparing four courses for 18 people (13 adults and 5 kids) is no easy task especially in a kitchen that isn't your own, but you made it look so easy and executed it flawlessly!  The courses were well timed out and you were even considerate of moving things along for the little ones before they got too tired (knowing your audience :-).  The service and quality of the food was really top notch!  And thank you for going above and beyond to make something special for the picky kids (cheese quesadillas) and a very special dessert (chocolate lava cake) for my nephew's 2nd birthday.  The kids LOVED the chocolate lava cake (and they are probably your toughest critics ha ha)!  And thank you for adding a candle to both my husband and nephew's desserts so that we could sing "happy birthday" to them.  Such a simple but very special touch!     The whole experience couldn't have gone better from start to finish.  From our very first contact (you responded promptly to my email) to an outstanding job with clean up at the end of the night it couldn't have gone more smoothly.  You and your server were very attentive to our guests - refilling drinks, picking up plates and glasses as people finished up, etc.  And you even worked quickly and quietly with the clean up while my kids and I delivered our speeches for Ben that we had spent a considerable amount of time beforehand preparing for his big milestone birthday.  We truly had a perfect evening and my husband was just beaming ear to ear at the end of the night!   I have to be honest we had originally said yes to a different caterer before we found you and this person just wasn't getting back to my calls or emails for days or even weeks at a time even though he had agreed to take on the job.  I just wasn't feeling very comfortable wondering how things would go the night of the event with the lack of response on his part.  But your promptness and professionalism really made a great impression on me, and I had total confidence that your dinner would turn out great!  We KNOW that we made the right choice!  We will definitely consider using you again if we plan anything in South Florida.  And of course we will recommend your services to anyone that needs catering down your way.  It's so common for people in the Tampa Bay area to head to South Florida especially during the winter months when that few degrees of higher temps makes such a difference, so it's likely that either ourselves or someone we know will be calling on your services in the future!  And please let us know if you ever extend your radius to the Tampa Bay area as well.  Thank you again for everything!  We couldn't have been more pleased! read more

Chef David was exceptional! Four Life long friends gathered in Florida to celebrate our cherished friendship and we wanted to underscore the celebration with something special. Chef David pulled out all the stops and made a spectacular dinner for us! However, it was not without some challenges! A few hours before he showed up, we found out that our dishwasher was broken. I couldn't have gotten more lucky! We worked together to create a custom menu, he was agile when we needed to add another person one week before, came on time and was completely wonderful and professional! My husband contacted Chef David Hill of Sarasota Florida to have him cook, two dinners in our home for two people, at a total cost of $750. This was a Christmas gift. Like some gifts this was not a hit with me. When my husband contacted the Chef for a refund he said he would have to keep $150 of the total amount because he had such high fees to process the credit card transaction. This is a 20% charge which we felt was absurd. Should you choose to do business with him be prepared for such fees. read more

We had Chef David and his team come to a private residence for a bachelorette party this past March. Chef David created a fabulous menu that was really accommodating to various dietary restrictions (gluten free, no meat, etc). I still think about the mahi mahi with the mango and pineapple salsa sometimes! Everyone was blown away by the incredible meal he put together and loved that he included our group in the appetizer prep. He and his team kept the food and drinks coming. We used Chef David for six nights on Bonita beach. The food was excellent and we had a server as well. Different cuisine each night with appetizers and he was flexible since we had two people who ate seafood only. The other review has to be wrong or they just don't like to pay for service and communicate there wishes. Stealing a golf cart come on that's a bit fishy sounding. One of the worst experiences I have every had. My wife setup 4 day's with lunch/dinner while we stayed at South Seas in Captiva. Arrange the details of the menu in advance and we had a handful of conversations with him. The deal was $1500 for groceries(he said this was way more then enough) and $70 an hour said 6 hours max per day for lunch/dinner. Every thing seemed fine but things went horribly wrong. He arrived the first day and made us lunch(salad with grilled chicken) had some cheeses to snack. For the kids he made frozen bagel bits, corn dogs, and frozen fries. The kids food seemed strange and you don't hire a personal chef to heat up Costco frozen food for you at $70 an hour. We didn't think that much about it and tried to enjoy our vacation. Once he left we looked at all the food he had purchased for us and we came to realize he had just bought frozen prepared food to heat up and serve us. This was not why we hired a personal chef to cook for us at $70 an hour! My sister in law confronted him about it and he seemed to get angry and told us to reserve judgement till later. We decided to carry on and not worry about it as we are at a beautiful water front resort on vacation. Things did not get much better. Everyone didn't feel well after eating his food and the quality of meals was not what is expected by personal chef. Since we already paid we tried to make the best out of it. But this is when things went very bad. David approached my Wife and Sister in law while my bother in law walked outside. He told them he has exceeded our budget in 2 day's( 2 lunch and 2 dinners of FROZEN Costco food). He said he was now $2000 over budget. How is it possible to serve 4 adults and 5 kids under 8 years old 2 lunch's and 2 dinners and it cost $4000?????? Not to mention 2 adults he planned to feed didn't make the trip so it was 2 people less then he originally quoted. Needless to say we were blown a way. We told him he told us 6 hours a day and less then $1500 in groceries. Not to mention we weren't happy with being served frozen pre made food. We told him were not paying any more then we agreed to and he told us he wasn't going to continue cooking and wouldn't be back. He also demanded another $1000. After he left we all decided that my brother in law would call him to try to understand why he has these huge extra fees. His conversation didn't go well and after heated discussions he told David we wouldn't be paying him any more money and that was it. Next David had a random previous customer call my wife at 11pm. After we told her the story she agreed she wouldn't pay him any more money and sounded like we had a horrible experience with him. Then David charges my wife credit card out of the blue fradulently $850 at about midnight. When we wake up the next morning our rented Golf cart is missing. So at this point we call the resort manager and sheriff. The resort placed his name at the front gate and his license plates as restricted to stop him from every coming into resort. Plust the sheriff had to contact him and tell him to never come back to south seas again. He almost single handled ruined our vacation and not to mention ripped us off for going to Costco and heating up some food for us. I know this story sounds crazy but you can call South Seas in Captiva and talk to Concierge about it they did there best to try to help us out and not let this ruin our vacation. We had to dispute his frad credit card charges and still are waiting to see if we can get that money back. This guy is a scam artist and a fraud. Run from this guy unless you want to be ripped off!!! read more
