This review is very personal to me. So, bare with me.
For the last year or so, I have struggled with the symptoms of a severe hormone imbalance. I could write about this for some time but that really wouldn't be fun for anyone involved. Basically, half the time, things aren't fun, and at its peak it's crippling. I needed stability, balance and to feel in control of my life and, unfortunately, this just wasn't possible without treatment of some form. I had recently reached the point where I would do anything, and make any changes, in order to rejig my bitter, twister hormones. Otherwise, the anxiety and other icky symptoms can be debilitating. I'm aware this all sounds very downbeat, but, hey, nobody said it was easy being a lady! - I extend a hug to anyone who suffers too; I feel ya.
I booked an appointment at Napier's for several reasons: my GP had been unhelpful; I favoured a natural, herbalist approach; my boyfriend's mum had recommended the clinic to me. Here's a brief summary of what to expect if you're going for a consultation, which lasts an hour. Firstly, I was asked to talk through exactly what the issue was. Medical herbalist, Clare, was patient and attentive, and made me feel so at ease. I felt completely comfortable to talk her through everything I had been feeling. She asked several questions about my health, my diet, sleep pattern, etc. I really felt like the questions she asked allow her to create a thorough picture of my daily life. And, most importantly, I also felt like I could ask her any questions or express any concerns I had.
Clare then talked me through some dietary changes which I could make for the better. For example, I had reduced dairy and she confirmed that that would be best. - Magnesium is good for hormones but dairy inhibits the body's absorption of magnesium. Magnesium = yay! Clare also gave me a brief printout with dietary information for hormone imbalance which is going to be really helpful for me over the coming months.
Based on my symptoms, I was first prescribed both evening primrose oil and magnesium + B6 capsules. Then some herbal witchery resulted in producing a tincture; a hormone healing potion brewed especially for me, if you will. I went next door to the health food store to pick up my capsules and tincture, hoping that positive change was a-coming.
It's worth bearing in mind that this is a costly option, especially when you factor in the initial consultation price alongside the herbs. But it is a specialist, long term approach and if it changes my life as much as I hope it will, then it'll be more than worth it for me. And it could be for you. I know that I can get the capsules cheaper elsewhere, and I'll do that in future as the bottles don't last as long as the tincture and there are health shops much more convenient to me. The tincture will last me six weeks, and in just about three months, I'll know whether the investment has been worthwhile. Till then, I'm grateful that Napier's exists, and I'm just overflowing with hope for a healing future. read more
