Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience here. Bob's Auto Service came highly recommended through a colleague, so I had high hopes of great workmanship and fair pricing. Sadly, I was disappointed. As a woman, with little, to no mechanic knowledge, I do generally fear that I will be taken advantage of, as was almost the case at this shop.
I went to have my car looked at after discovering a fuel line leak during an oil change earlier that week. I waited in the reception area while this was taking place. When the mechanic entered the reception area to share his findings with the man behind the counter (who would ultimately relay their recommendation and estimate to me) he was swiftly ushered back into the garage where the two men discussed my car's issues privately. When the man behind the counter returned, I was told that my car has severe rusting issues and that all of my fuel lines would have to be replaced. As well, the brake lines were in terrible condition and he suggested replacing them as well. $500 for the fuel line replacement, and another $400 to do the brakes, should I decide to take both on at the same time. He also warned that given the condition of the brake lines and their proximity to the fuel lines, that there was a great chance that during the fuel line replacement, damage may occur to the brake lines and they would ultimately have to be replaced at this time.
I stopped in at another mechanic for a second opinion. This time I stayed in the garage with the car as it was hoisted. I walked under the car and asked questions with the mechanic, only to find a small section of rusted fuel lines to be replaced, and plastic coated brake lines with absolutely no rust. Essentially, in perfect condition. I've been quoted $300 to do the job, which includes replacing the filter.
