Went here as a bit of a bridge between a hiking trip and our dinner reservation and really enjoyed it. Don't let the outside entrance fool you as it looks a bit more rustic than the inside is. This place is as Kauai'n as it gets and the lady there talked us through how everything is sourced from the island. Got a flight to taste all the different meads they offer since they have so many interesting flavors that I had never had before. My personal favorite was the deviant behavior which is a mead that's carbonated with pineapple and chili peppers. My wife preferred ge winter sun which has passionfruit and starfruit in it. The cheese plate comes with honey poured on top which is just perfect for a meadery. My only comment against is it was a bit cluttered but I think they had just gotten a shipment of stuff read more

If you have never had mead before this place is alright. But if you have then you'll be disappointed. The gal that was working when I was there was pretty aggressive. I can't say she was rude but you could tell she was annoyed by us asking questions and trying to make conversation. She was also very pushy about buying a bottle. Amazing mead! Who would have thought that mead could bring such complex flavor profiles into brewing honey! From sweet and spicy to coffee and ginger, this mead knocks it out the park. Really fun experience. We came for a mead tasting, which is $10 per person. The employee was very sweet, but our tasting was quite sporadic because she was chatting with some of the people at the bar. It took over an hour to taste the 6 mead flavors. We're beekeepers and from Colorado so we seek out breweries and meaderies. We were so lucky to find Nani Moon and that they were open. We only had a few days on Kauai and every day was jammed pack with activites, but we got lucky one day and squeaked in 30 min before they closed. The flight was pure heaven and Stephanie was just amazing in explaining all her wines, where the honey came from, how to pair each wine. I had to buy a shirt with their logo because it has a cute little bee. In the end because we only had carry on luggage, we ordered 12 bottles to be shipped to our house, which came yesterday (about a week after we got home). The bottles were packed so well with mininmal waste; I was pleasantly surprised, but now I get to experience their yummy wine until I visit again. Polite family owned staff. An interesting tasting beverage. This was our first time trying mead. We had intended on doing a sample tasting however there was incense of some sort in a small room being burned that I could not tolerate. So instead of staying decided to get a bottle to go. It was the Laka's Nectar. It was different than anything we had before however if we had to describe it we'd have to say it was close to what a sake would taste like. My spouse and I do not drink, but came here to grab a bottle of mead as a gift for someone. My partner was asking a lot of questions to the woman behind the counter because he's never had to ship mead and we both have little knowledge of alcohol in general. She was getting frustrated and her tone was incredibly condescending. So much so, that my husband pointed out he could see her getting frustrated and nicely explained that we don't drink for what used to be religious reasons. She changed her tune really quick, but never apologized for being so short with us. I can't speak for the quality of the mead, but the customer service wasn't great even though she was kind at the end. The space was cramped, but I thought the bottles were nicely priced. All in all, because the employee was so condescending and rude, this is not a business to which I would refer my friends and family. read more

Came here to do their mead tasting. My friend and I shared a tasting with their cheese plating. Mead is somewhat strong so I recommend splitting if you have to drive. The tasting was really informative and I really enjoyed chatting with our bartender. We got about four or five different types and they paired well with the cheese! I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for some afternoon drinks. We had read about Nani Moon Meadery earlier in the week and with a little time to spare today we decided to visit it. The meadery itself is in a strip mall off of The Kuhio Highway right outside of Kapaa. It's in the back of the strip and is quite unassuming whenever you walk in. They have a bar on one side with some art for sale hanging behind it, a large window through which you can see the fermentation tanks and then some regular seating as well. On this day my wife and I decided to do a flight of all of their normal meads. That means we ended up getting 6 3-4oz pours all for $8. Now that's a deal if I every saw one. So we were able to try Lakas Nectar (a mountain apple mead), Pineapple Lime Sunset (a semi dry pineapple and lime mead), winter sun (a lilikoi and star fruit mead), ginger spice (a spiced mead almost like a mulled wine), cacao moon (it had chocolate so I didn't taste it) and then deviant beehavior (a pineapple and Hawaiian chile mead). Our host that was pouring them was super nice and attentive (we were the only people there) and is part of the reason for this 5 star review. She explained to us each of the meads in great detail and explained to us how almost everything in them was sourced from Kauai. All of the meads that I tried ending up tasting good and somewhat different. Out of the bunch I liked the pineapple lime sunset the most due to its flavoring and it's dryness and even bought a bottle to take home. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I thought that the mead that we tried was pretty good and that the worker helping us out was very nice. read more

Stopped here on our way back from a drive to the north side of Kauai - we've had mead from just one meadery back home in Arizona which were all sweet. Most of Nani Moon's meads are dry to semi-dry which were very different. The owner served us our tasting flights and was very personable and knowledgeable, explaining ingredients and the styles. Now tasting for 5 wines is $7. I like the names for wines like nectar, winter sun and cacao moon... The name already implies what the taste will be like, but partially. The wines are all refreshing, fruity, light, but not too sweet. Winter sun tastes more like Champaign with a little bit of bubbles but not much. We decided to pop in on a whim for a tasting and left with a case of mead. The tasting cost $7 for six different kinds and all of them were delicious. Much to my surprise, not all of them were especially sweet, which gave the selection a lot of variety. Laka's Nectar and Cacao Moon were especially delightful, with the former being dry, less sweet, and having the delicate floral flavor as advertised, while the latter had a rich, somewhat sweet chocolaty flavor. The Pineapple Guava Sunset, Winter Sun, and Ginger Spice were also delicious, but don't have quite the versatility of the other two (but would go amazingly well with certain foods). The sixth mead we sampled was their current limited run and was brewed with the Hawaiian chili peppers, giving it a potent kick. Not for everyone, but I loved it. We were given the option of having some macadamia nut pairings for $5 total, and all of the meads went fantastically with there respective pairings. The owner was a pleasure to converse with and answered all of our questions. It was a great experience all around. If you have the opportunity to visit Kauai, I highly recommend stopping by for at least the tasting. read more

We were very disappointed with the $20+ bottle of Ginger Mead we brought home. It was completely flat and lacking in any of the fresh and pungent ginger flavor we tasted at the Nani Moon meadery in Kauai. This bottle was reminiscent of really bad home-brew (been there, done that!) and completely undrinkable. Hoping to hear from Nani Moon as to what might have happened here. --- 4/1/2015 - Finally heard from Nani Moon 8 months after contacting them. They offered a refund. No response yet. --- 4/6/2015 - Received a refund for the mead. No explanation as to why it was so awful. But I'll up rating from 1 to 1.5 stars (ok I'll reluctantly stretch to 2 stars). --- Summary - the mead in the Nani Moon meadery is average to middling - honestly it's nowhere near the quality of mead we are used to in our home town (Groennfell Meadery, Colchester VT). Perhaps we are just spoiled. Next time we're on Kauai, we'll probably visit again just to see if they've improved any. We'll certainly be hoping a few small samples won't cost us over $25 again though!! Crazy prices! read more

Stopped by this place after doing the Kauai Photo Tours, which is located across the way from them. Our tour guide recommended that we try this place, and explained that meads are like a cross between beer and wine. This place would be hard to find if you weren't familiar with them, as they're not on the beaten path. They're actually located in back of Kauai Pasta. My husband & I split the tasting flight for $8. We were very surprised at how good all the meads were. My favorites were the Laka Nectar and the Cacao Moon. The lady who served us was one of the owners, and she was very nice and took the time to explain everything to us. We didn't end up buying anything, but I would definitely recommend this place for those who want to try something new and different. read more

I moseyed into Nani Moon one day after hearing about it from some friends and seeing it on some store shelves, without really knowing what to expect. I've been to some other tastings before for Beer, Wine, and Spirits, but had never really explored Mead (honey wine). From the moment I walked in until the moment I left I was treated like family. Such a warm and welcoming atmosphere with engaging and informed staff. I was even lucky enough to get to sit down with the owner and founder to talk about the history of the meadery, the origins, motivation, and all the ins and outs of the mead industry. Whether you live near Kapa'a or are just visiting, this is certainly a destination to add to your list. Strongly recommend trying out Deviant Beehavior and Winter Sun (although all of the meads were just fantastic). read more

Great mead! My boyfriend and I went her on our last day at the island after his family told us about their experience. We went for the tasting flight with chocolates and treats. I would highly recommend this place for the tasting and to buy some great flavored mead or wine or whatever it is. The cacao moon tasted like chocolate but not in an overbearing way, you could taste the in the ginger spice, and this was the same for all the delicious booze. I honestly wanted to buy several bottles and ship them back, but I didn't want to pay the high shipping costs. I don't know what J.B. (the reviewer) means when he went to Nani Moon as it was really nice and was far from looking like a dump. The owner is a bit zany in a good way and super fun to talk with. They have an awesome four-legged host who will escort you to the winery and back to your car, lol. The cutest most adorable dog ever! I honestly wanted to take him back home with me. He loves getting pet, but is very calm and well trained. I forgot his name though, but he is trained as a service dog. I would have totally bought mead here on my first few days in Kapaa and drank the whole bottle during our trip had I known about this place sooner, or made enough room in my suitcase for a few bottles. I honestly think this place is a quirky and neat idea. I would recommend doing the tasting here during the rain or after you have been out all day in the sun and want to relax. read more

This is a quaint little meadery in a little strip mall. There are 5 stools at the bar and a few high tables. It's cool, mellow, dark and mood lit (totally unlike the bright sun you're coming in from). We shared a tasting flight and it was well worth the experience. This mead is _very_ local, as the honey, fruits and spices come from Kauai or the Big Island. Our favorite was the Deviant Beehavior. It was sweet and spicy. The mild heat lingers for a while. Definitely something to check off your "to-do" list, if you want to spend an hour relaxing out of the crazy Kapa'a traffic. read more

This was my first experience with Mead, and it was fantastic! I've only seen and read about it, and was blown away how delicious it is. My wife is not a sweet drink lady, and was concerned with this being Honey based, but she loved all 8 varieties we tried. Nani Moons flight was a great route to try a wide selection out, and I really have to shout out Tiffany! She is awesome, and not only taught us a lot, she was fun to be around. I don't know much about Mead, but I love what I found at Nani Moon. The offerings are spectacular and priced well. We found out about Nani Moon while watching the local "things to do" channel at our resort. We stopped in on a day when the tasting room was closed, but the owner was there working on other things and invited us to come back later in the week. We did so, and loved everything we tried. A $7 tasting fee per person is a good price to try offerings so exceptional. I just wish that the sign for the tasting room was a little bigger. We passed it a couple of times on our way to Princeville or back to Lihue before finally locating it. read more

I was perusing through one of those "Visit Kauai" magazine books that tourists can get from the airport when I stumbled upon a small corner ad for Nani Moon. It was perfect, because we were trying to find a gift for our friend's grandma. She wanted us to bring home alcohol for her, but where can we find alcohol made on the island of Kauai? Nani Moon Mead, of course! I love that there's an opportunity to taste the mead, because then we could decide which one was good to bring home. It is $7 for the tasting, and you get to try Laka's Nectar, Pineapple Guava Sunset, Winter Sun (I think I liked this one the most), Ginger Spice (Tasted like winter), Cacao Moon, and Deviant Beehavior. We purchased the small snack plate that we used to pair with the mead that included chipotle macadamia nuts and spicy chocolate. The owner also described the flavors and told us about the different fruits she used. It was great to learn about every one of them. I'm not a connoisseur so I can't describe the flavors, but I did like the Cacao Moon enough to bring it home as a gift for my recently married friends. So pleasantly surprised by my husband and I's Nani Moon visit. We did a flight of the meads which gives you a little taste of all of them, and then I enjoyed it so much I bought a glass after our flight. We also walked away with three different types of local honey and some delicious rosemary macadamia nuts. I've tried mead at beer festivals before and always ended up dumping my glass. But Nani Moon's mead was so good we ordered 4 bottles to be shipped back to us. Great mead. Unique flavors. I'm used to super sweet meads that I don't really care for. They had some on the dryer side with some great local flavoring. We did the nut and chocolate tasting as well. While I can't claim to be a Meade expert, I've enjoyed the beverage on several occasions at a meadery in Prescott, AZ. I found Nani Moon's offerings to be quite pleasant. Though drier than what I've experienced in the past, all were interesting and several were very enjoyable. I did not care for the one meade variety that is infused with chili pepper, but that is purely personal preference. Our hostess was very knowledgeable and friendly and made our visit very enjoyable. Will visit again to see what's new on the tasting list. Can't even begin to understand the comments from Julie H about "the yeast". read more
