Used to receive great care at this dentist. I always paid in cash or credit immediately after my daughters care at this dentist. The front desk does not do their job to make sure all bills are paid. Be careful, you might call and have them tell you that they've tried to reach you even when they haven't. I have even received a collection notice ... suspicious. Her office area is unique; there's only one elevator going up and down and her office is at the end of a narrow hallway Dr. Nancy has always provided good service, so no complaint there. Excellent pediatric dental practice in the heart of Laurel Heights. Both the dentists and the dental hygienists are very gentle & offer toys and even movies the kids can watch while they're in the dentist's chair. Individual suites mean there are no distractions and kids stay calm during the visit. Having been to another very good pediatric dental practice, their open concept exam area was a detriment, too anxiety-producing for my little boy; every visit was a struggle. I like the staff at our new practice, particularly Dr. Jay. The front desk assistants are pleasant and I appreciate their email reminders that also make it simple to put the appointment into your e-calendar. read more

Maybe it was because it was late in the afternoon and patience is less than standard. Anyways, my daughter was a little antsy because she did not take a nap at daycare that day. The first lady that cleaned her teeth was an angel. She was very informative and great with my daughter. Dr. Hsieh, however, was very impatient and semi abrasive with my daughter. I know that sometimes she's a little fidgety but I thought the doctor would take into account that she is 3 years old! I also was surprised that a PEDIATRIC dentist would be so impatient with a child. We have found a new doctor and have our first appt soon. I really am not a super picky person, but i was appalled by the behavior I witnessed at this establishment. I do love the rest of the staff, they are helpful and friendly! I know this sounds awful but multiple cavities for BOTH my kids is my normal and mostly my fault due to ignorance and bad habits. With Dr Nancy we had an effective game plan drawn up, cavities filled and now follow-up treatments - fluoride gels, x-rays and additional appointments. For my son in particular the dentist and the technician Lynn did a fantastic job (working effectively, quickly and professionally with little people with big fears and emotions who have big people dental problems is an enormous challenge) and they were once again up for the task. I don't know my schedule ahead of time and I need to get my daughter a dentist appointment sooner then 2 months which is what they are offering. I took my son to Dr. Nancy Hsieh after his 1st Birthday, and I must say I am truly amazed at how she was able to relax my son. She is very knowledgeable, she breaks everything down to where I can understand what she's talking about. I felt very comfortable with her handling my son's dental work. She has a T.V. on the ceiling for the kids to watch TV and take their mind off what is actually going on. My son was able to watch his favorite movie "Finding Nemo". Her office staff is very friendly and professional...you usually can't get both, an excellent pediatric dentist and friendly staff!! If I could give more stars I would, becasue she is the best! I have been nervous about taking my two year old for his first dentist visit since he got his first tooth... and that was a year an a half ago! Dr. Nancy Hsieh and her office staff were fantastic, and made the experience not only painless, but fun for my little guy! First off, they send you a little personalized book about your child's first dental visit, that tells you about "Dr. Nancy", her staff, and what her office and tools look like. My son loved the book and kept asking me to read it. When we arrived for the actual visit, they had lots of fun toys for the kids to play with in the waiting room, and we barely waited 5 minutes. Dr. Hsieh came out to greet us, and she was really playful and friendly with my son. The appointment itself was pretty fast- she counted and checked his teeth, then cleaned them, and answered any questions I had. She had great tips on how to effectively brush his teeth and make the whole process more enjoyable for him. At the end we left with a goody bag of toothbrushes/floss/toothpaste, which my son was really excited about, and on top of that they gave him a prize and a sticker. When I first called to schedule a appt. it was for two months out! I was placed on the cancellation list and was called multiple times to try to get in earlier. I was unable to take any of those times, but truly appreciated that. The staff was very courteous and patient. The dental assistant that worked on our son Illeyana was very kind. Dr Hsieh was also great. They did everything they could to make our 3 year old very comfortable. The office was clean and welcoming. All in all a very good visit. So many great things about Dr. Hsieh and her staff! The staff is so nice and welcoming, incredibly responsive and helpful. We were seen promptly at our appointment time. The staff is extremely efficient and knowledgeable. We received a personalized children's book prior to our visit, introducing Dr. Hsieh and explaining what our visit to the dentist would be like--a great intro for kids. My daughter enjoyed reading the book and bringing it with her to the office. Dr. Hsieh wrote a personal thank you note to my daughter following the visit, including her cell phone number and referencing our discussion and future visits. I am so impressed! Dr. Hsieh and her staff are obviously very experienced at working with and talking to children, explaining things and presenting as much information as possible to parents, and giving children fun, useful and very appropriate take-aways from the visit, including floss, toothbrush, etc. This is the third pediatric dentist my children have ever visited (first in SF as we have lived in other cities) and she ranks among the best. We just had our first appointment with Dr. Nancy Hsieh and we thought she was terrific. In a nutshell, she really knows how to talk to kids (as well as adults). She carefully and thoroughly explained all procedures to our kids so they knew what to expect. She was fast and thorough, but we did not feel rushed. Really great experience with my 2.5 yr old's first visit to the dentist. The book they sent ahead of the appointment is perfect to read to the little ones to get them excited about their visit. I recently brought my 2-year-old daughter in for her first dental checkup and it was a wonderful experience with Dr. Nancy and her team. From the moment that she came out to ask her initial questions about my daughter and her teeth, to when my daughter skipped out of the waiting room pleading to go home and brush her teeth with her new toothbrush, it was a delightful experience. The whole practice seems very well thought through, and is designed entirely around kids in a way that puts them very much at ease. While my daughter was initially wary of Dr. Nancy, by the end of our short session she was high-fiving the dentist and her assistant. From the little ladybugs hidden everywhere in the office for the kids to find, to the singing of songs during the procedure, to the requisite treasure chest of prizes at the end, it's all great. We love everything about Dr. Nancy Hsieh's practice. They send you a little book before your first appt about her office and what your child can expect. The book even tells you who works in the office so when you arrive for your appointment you already have a sense of familiarity and know some of what to expect. My daughter loved reading this book (over and over) before her first visit. Her website is also great, thorough and detail oriented! Dr. Nancy is an awesome pediatric dentist! Her office sent a book called "My First Visit" a month ahead of our son's first dental appointment. The book helped him get familiar with what to expect. Six months later, our son still asks to read "My First Visit" from Dr. Nancy. A few months ago, our son fell at the playground and bumped his mouth. He had bleeding from his gum which made us really nervous. When we called, Dr. Nancy was already home. She went back to the office to meet us at 5:30, and she didn't even bill our insurance. Impossible to get an appointment. If you are looking for a pediatric dentist for your child don't join this practice. My son has been a patient for almost a decade and we finally left this office after years of disappointments. Nothing wrong with Dr. Hsieh. But good luck getting an appointment with her. Two months ago I was sent to the emergency room and as a result missed taking my kids to their dentist appointment (for which they were already overdue). I called and apologised. No empathy at all. I asked to reschedule and the first appointment was three months from the date. Yes, they offered to put my son on a waiting list. They always do that but in 10 years no one ever called me after I was on the waiting list. Horrible service. read more

I have a 2 year old boy. We made our first dental appointment. Their website is easy to use. Found her from GGMG. We came in, the staff was lovely and sweet. The doctor saw us right away, she sang, surprised him with a spiderman toothbrush let him hold it (it vibrates) while she introduced him to her tools, and told him what she would do. She explained that if he was a good helper he would be able to take Spiderman home. He loved it! Loved the cleaning and left with a goodie bag full of dental treats, an Elmo sticker (his fav) and a toy. She discussed all my concerns with patience and gave great suggestions about nutrition that affects dental health. Wish she would see adults. As we were leaving my son said "I LIKE Doctors"! What? We've been happy with this dental practice for many years, but today they kept us waiting more than a half hour after our scheduled appointment time. I understand that practices sometimes run late but wish they had called me or even told me when we arrived about the delay so I could have planned accordingly and put adequate money in the parking meter. read more

I took my 16 month old today for his first dentist appointment with Dr. Nancy Hsieh. It was the best experience we could have asked for. The entire staff was very friendly and professional from the initial phone call through the actual appointment making everything very easy and comfortable. They even send a little book about going to the dentist for the child to read before their visit. They also send you all the paperwork before hand to fill out so you don't have to do it at the office while trying to watch your child. I am so glad out dentist recommended Dr. Nancy for our son. The staff is amazing. All of them. Supremely professional and helpful. My kids started seeing Dr. Nancy when they were babies. Since Dr. Nancy has had more babies herself it's a bit harder to get an appointment with her. This has turned out to be just fine as the other pediatric dentist is Dr. Jay Golinveaux. Dr. Jay is great. My daughter got her first (and hopefully last) filling today. It went very smoothly. He's got a great "bed-side manner" and when you ask any kind of question, he seems genuinely interested in giving you a thoughtful and thorough answer. And he delivers just that. Dr. Nancy is great! I took my two-year-old son there today for his very first visit with the dentist and he had a great time. She's super friendly and quick (everything you want in your pediatric dentist) and was able to examine, brush and floss his teeth without any complaint from him. He and I spent a lot of time talking about "the dentist" before the visit, which probably helped, but she made things enjoyable and easy once we got there. She also didn't make us wait very long before seeing us, and had lots of goodies for him on the way out (and what self respecting two year old doesn't love a big bag of loot?!) Good stuff! read more

This experience here at the dentist for my 6yr old daughter was easily the worst we've ever had. Never had any issues until just the other day, my wife took our 6yr daughter for a routine check - due to COVID she was told that she would not be allowed to go in with her. In the waiting room my wife noticed an older child and his mom go in. She asked the front desk if she could go and be in the room with my daughter as she had just seen another mom go in with their kid, they assured her that the mom would not be staying in the whole time (That was a lie, the mom was in there the whole time). The dentist told my wife they needed to pull a baby tooth, so she agreed and dentist said she would be allowed to go back and hold my daughter's hand during the tooth pulling, they just needed to get the room ready. My wife signed some paperwork and a few minutes later heard my daughter screaming in the other room because they had started without her even though they had agreed that she would be going in the room! They didn't let her know when they were starting or tell my daughter what was going on. She was frightened and scared, and kept asking if she could see her mom, and if they were going to pull her tooth, and the dentist just said 'its okay don't worry about it' - It wasn't until my wife had made a huge scene in the waiting room that she was finally allowed to go in and see her, it was completely unacceptable! We will absolutely NEVER go back to this dental office again. It was extremely traumatic for my daughter who was scared and absolutely inexcusable the double standard in letting some parents in and others not. The lack of empathy is baffling - and not understanding the ramifications of this experience on such a young child is deeply concerning. read more

I wanted to leave some feedback after reading other reviews that reflect a somewhat similar experience. I had a lot of faith and trust in Dr Hsieh *at first,* but then...again maybe late in the day, as I was told was leaving early right after us, experienced behavior that was very alienating. I wrote directly to her office, so I'll just leave that note here: I walked away from our appointment needing to process with several aspects with friends; this is not normal for a pediatric health appointment. I'll just make a list for the sake of ease. 1) I called for 2-3 weeks asking for a referral in the East Bay. As you were our former dentist & I described the problem (the same problem you diagnosed), this should have been no problem. I played phone tag with your office for 2-3 weeks, at which time I was told, "Dr Hsieh has no referrals. She does not know of any dentists in the East Bay." At that time, having had no luck with random calls to East Bay dentists, we travelled to Dr Hsieh's office for a direct appointment. 2) Dr Hsieh told us in the appointment that she knew many dentists in the East Bay. Why was this information was withheld? 3) During the appointment, I asked a fairly normal question, "Why does my child's mouth have all these problems?" I expected to get an answer back like subsequent dentists have given, "some people have certain kinds of bacteria that cause a lot of cavities" or for Dr Hsieh for inquire into my child's dental history, at which time she would have discovered that there was an accident at age 4 that could have pushed teeth closer together than they would be otherwise. I expect that she could have looked into my child's chart and reminded us both that my child's first baby teeth arrived through them gums with cavities already in them. Instead, Dr Hsieh began questioning me about my knowledge of cavities. Did I know what caused them? At first it seemed amusing and admonishing, if a little uncomfortable, till Dr Hsieh GOT UP AND PHONED OUR PREVIOUS DENTIST to make the case that I had not been keeping up with my child's dental visits. The treatment was absolutely humiliating & unhelpful. Sufficed to say, her father and I are confused about the records at Washington Square Dental, as they do not reflect all of our appointments there. No practical advice was given (like "yogurt has lots of hidden sugar"), no nonjudgmental questions (like, "how long did she nurse?") just really, really judgmental and socially awkward accusations of...neglect? What exactly are you screening for? Thank you for finally recommending a different dentist. I feel like we have again arrived at a more normal experience. I trust we will get great care...even the recommendations were not a self-serve list of expensive uninsured to insured options, but a mutual conversation about the realistic risks and subtitles of waiting, or going ahead with more elaborate plans. We have a great plan of action. read more

Not good.not a very thorough cleaning. She rushed through cleaning and spent about 10 seconds applying fluoride to only the front of the teeth only. I paid for the whole mouth to be done! Not very patient at last two visits. When I asked her why she only did the front, she said she did it all. My husband was there, too. read more

I just want to start by saying Dr. Hsieh is fantastic! I am a general dentist and I send both of my children to her and she is absolutely the best there is! I can say this because she takes great care of people I refer to her office (her bedside manner AND her clinical skills) as well as my own children! Case in point-the other day I brought my 7 year old son to an orthodontist to have an appliance placed in his mouth to help widen his upper jaw(palatal expander) and he started to have a panic attack and became extremely agitated and felt like he could not breathe with the expander in his mouth. Of course he could but he just was panicking. The orthodontist was a bit at a loss of what to do and I tried my best to calm him down so he could see that he really could breathe but nothing was working. I just could not get him to calm down so I brought him over to Dr. Hsieh's office to see what she could do. The office was getting ready to close for the day but Dr. Hsieh was insistent that we stay anyway so she could help out my poor son. And boy did she ever. She brought him inside and sat him in the chair and calmly LISTENED to him. Only she was able to get him to relax, breathe and realize he was fine. She must have spent 30 min listening and talking with him. Needless to say we left her office very happy. My son was relaxed and even excited now to show his expander to his buddies at school the next day. Not only does Dr. Hsieh have great clinical skills but she has an amazing way with children! I am so thankful she is our Pedodontist! read more

My daughter's nanny calls me from the play ground and says "Daisy has fallen on the slide and her teeth/gums are bleeding. We need to get her to a dentist asap... " " Yikes" I say!! I look on Yelp for someone and my eyes gazed over the list in a haze and for some reason I picked Dr. Hsieh... located in Laurel Village, so that seemed good for me. I called them immediately and they said bring her in as soon as you can get here. Thank goodness I picked this office!! Dr Hsieh is brilliant and her staff is a delight and very professional. Long story short, Daisy had to have her two front teeth pulled and a lovely new pair put in till her big teeth start to come in... not too fun to get done but Daisy has no fear of dentist office visits, its all a breeze and lots of fun.. well sort of... The Dr. and her staff really do a lot for their lil' patients and I count my lucky stars that I found her on Yelp! Who would of thought? I don't think you would go wrong with Dr. Nancy! read more

Dr. Nancy is fantastic. The office is so helpful and professional from the first contact point to the end of the visit. My son has always enjoyed going to the dentist (he's 4), and we just made the switch to Dr. Nancy. He had such a good time - he talks about her constantly and loves brushing his teeth and flossing in hopes that she will be happy and proud of him during his next visit. If he had his way we'd be visiting weekly. Next up is my 2 year old daughter - she doesn't like going to the dentist and goes from happy girl to fussy little monster.
