We had an absolutely outstanding experience with Dr. Dorothy Pang, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. My child has ADHD and significant cavity anxiety, and we were in a tough spot when he couldn't be seen by his regular dentist. From the moment we arrived, Dr. Pang was calm, patient, and deeply professional. She explained everything clearly, moved at a pace that respected my child's needs, and created an environment where he felt safe enough to get through cavity fillings--something that previously felt impossible for him. What truly stood out was her steady, reassuring presence. She never rushed, never escalated the moment, and handled the situation with skill and compassion. Because of her, what could have been a traumatic experience became a manageable--and even empowering--one for my child. Huge shout-outs as well to Angie and Ashley, who were incredible. My daughter has been consistently going to OPDSF for the last three years (since she was 2) and we've always had positive experiences. In fact, OPDSF is not within our insurance network, but I choose to pay out of pocket anyway to provide consistently good care for my daughter who is neurodivergent (and has sensory processing disorder and anxiety). It was to my great surprise to read a negative review here on Yelp accusing the practice of overcharging and mistreating children with disabilities. Dr. Pang is a heaven send! My daughter is terrified of going to the dentist because she has had an extremely bad experience and after 5 years of going to different offices we finally found Dr. pang. My daughters airway hole for her throat isn't as wide as it's supposed to be and it causes her to choke and as soon as Dr. Pang looked inside her mouth she noticed without me even having to tell her. This was the first dentist who caught this without me having to tell them first! She was also very patient with my daughter even though my daughter's airway hole was freaking out due to past experiences. Honestly she is the best and I have been bringing my daughters airway hole here ever since. They also give cool little toys out to the kids after their appointments which my daughter always looks forward to. The front staff is also GREAT! read more

It's been a loooong time since I've been seeing Dr. Pang. I was a patient of hers when I was in HS myself and now that I'm a mom, I trust her whole heartedly with my own 2 kids. She's honest and tells you exactly how your kids' teeth are doing. I get a "report card" from her each time about their brushing and I kid you not, I'm always hopeful that they can continue to stay in the cavity-free club. She's active in the community as well and have been a fixture in the Sunset/UCSF community for years, we even ran into her at the Great Hauntway with Dr. Lee this year! Although her office is no longer in-network with my insurance carrier, I still bring my kids here because I trust her expertise and professionalism about their teeth and hygiene. It's a pain dealing with insurance and trying to get reimbursed for each treatment but her front end staff really tries their best to eliminate all of the headaches for us. Since our last visit in July, there's quite a few new front end staff but they were so helpful during our recent visit this month! Both Janelle and Laura were friendly in explaining the services and x-ray each child will be doing during our visit and Janelle made sure to request for a pre-estimate with my insurance to get a general idea as to how much they will cover for each child. I had some questions regarding what Delta is claiming they will not cover for me but Janelle got on the phone with them right away in hopes to sort out the mess. While the front end staff deals with all of the scheduling and insurance mess, I must also comment on how great the RDAs in the back are. Serena have been helping my kids for years and they both LOVE her! She is always smiling, so friendly and helpful with the kids and always make sure to give us parents a feedback on how their brushing is. My daughter had Mui this time and she was great too! Brought my daughter to the back for x-rays and the little one had no problem at all. Has a habit of overcharging by adding on charges and also unnecessary visits. We initially needed her to do some cavity and tooth removal requiring a hospital's OR. After the procedure, I was informed that she needed to do an additional $600 of work. Further, her dentists advised that my son come back for cleanings every 2-3 months, which weren't covered by insurance. They also advised us to go to her husband who handles the orthodontic side for X-rays. My son is autistic and was showing anxiety over the x-rays. This frustrated him and he proceeded to yell at my son. His techs apologized for his behavior. He later came back better composed. The last incident, they prescribed some work and said I'd only have to pay $X. It came back that the insurance company only paid half of what was expected which required me to pay more. His new dentist and my dentist, who teaches, said that frequency of visits is completely unnecessary. read more

I contacted OPDSF today to schedule an appointment for my child. Unfortunately, my experience over the phone was disappointing. The staff member who answered, Ashley, was discourteous and unprofessional during our interaction. I had chosen this practice because I have heard many positive things about the physicians, which made this experience particularly disheartening. Based on this interaction, I have decided not to move forward with scheduling an appointment at this time. After a few breezy visits my little came face to face with the buzzing of the tooth polisher and said nope. The hygienist struggled quite a bit to get her to open her mouth but things calmed down by the time Dr Mo stepped in. When her next visit approached I made sure to do some work ahead of time such as watching the daniel tiger episode on the dentist, picking out what we'd watch on their ceiling tv from netflix, and letting her touch my electric toothbrush to understand the buzzing. Our most recent appointment with hygienist Alex was a dream. He did everything he could to make her feel comfortable, from a high five and complements when he came to greets us, to leaving the room to fetch a toothbrush with her fave character. He showed her things before he did them and it honestly made all the difference. Three cheers for Alex and the very best kid whispering. Very disappointed with the experience that I had. I took my nephew to the dentist with my mom and the front desk allowed both of us to come to the back. But when we got into the room, Esther, said one of us had to leave because the room is small. My sister and husband come all the time and they are both allowed in. She was so rude about it and didn't let me back in until my mom said I was pregnant. Wtf? What does that have to do with anything. The waiting room was also way too chaotic since there's 2 different areas- one ortho and one pediatric dentist. If there are certain rules about the amount of people coming in then it should be standardized. The door was also left open the entire time so it was so noisy. I also don't think Esther was great with kids, you could tell she sounded a bit frustrated at times. Dr. Chen was great and addressed both of us so it was clear that the 1 person per room was fake. But the experience with Esther was enough for me not to want to bring my kids or refer anyone here. Seriously disappointed since I was planning on bringing my kids here in the future. read more

I am so impressed! My 2-year-old son had his first dentist appointment today. My husband had a work conflict and I didn't want to reschedule, so I had to take him on my own. Knowing my son's personality, I was definitely anxious and prepared for the worst--screaming, crying, running out, who knows. I can barely brush his teeth for a minute, but Alex and Dr. Ta performed a thorough check-up, including scraping, polishing, brushing, flossing, and a fluoride treatment. Searched Yelp for the best pediatric dentist to take the toddler for her very first dental appointment, and found OPDSF. Coincidentally, we'd also participated in a teeth brushing activity 2 years ago @ Recess Collective, led by a friendly representative from OPDSF as well. Yelp recommends Dr. Pang, and I read about her impressive background and experience too, so we made an appointment with her. She's only there M-W. Door is unlocked by a receptionist once they confirm you have an appointment, they take your temperature, and you sign a paper acknowledging that you haven't had any Covid symptoms. We were a tad late (as usual) but were seen promptly. The dental assistant was friendly and accommodating for my nervous toddler. She showed me how to better brush and even floss my toddler's teeth. Dr. Pang took a look at her teeth and told me what areas to look out for. Dr. Pang was nice and seemed super knowledgeable, living up to her reputation. They gave my toddler a choice of a toy (bubbles, a book, or a squishy lion), and of course she chose the lion (which would have been my last choice). They also sent us home with a new Mickey Mouse toothbrush and mini toothpaste and floss. The dental assistant and the receptionists all praised my toddler as we were leaving, which made her super proud. The rest of the day, she carried her bag of goodies around, showed everyone her "beautiful teeth" (as she called it), and even slept with her little lion. Overall great first experience. We were shopping around for a new pediatric dentist, as our old dentist no longer accepted our insurance. I stumbled across OPDSF on Yelp, called, and was excited to hear that they accepted our insurance. I made an appointment for both of my little ones, and we came by for our first evaluation and cleaning last week. Everything about our service was seamless and great from start to end. When we arrived, we mistakenly went to their orthopedic office, which is just a few doors down from their cleaning office. The front desk staff graciously walked with us down the street to ensure we got to the correct location. We checked in easily and then waited in their comfortable lobby until we were called in. Even though my kids had two 1 hour appointments booked back to back during scheduling, they were able to overlap the two with only a 15-minute difference, which greatly cut down on our total time there. Alex was the assistant who got us started with my son and Rita was the one who serviced my daughter. Both had great bedside manners and ensured my kids were comfortable, even making sure to ask what their favorite show was to put on the ceiling TV so they could watch some content while getting their teeth cleaned. After the cleaning, Dr. Pang came in for the evaluation. She was very down to earth, and the kids were comfortable with her. I thought she was very thorough in assessing their mouths and teeth and keeping me in the loop as she discussed things that she thought we could keep a closer eye on and what we could do at home to ensure my kids maintained their optimal oral health. Overall, while I was initially reluctant to have to switch providers, I'm very glad to have found OPDSF and am looking forward to the continued care my kids will receive here during the years. read more

I visited for the first time with my 7-year old and was thoroughly impressed. The whole process from phone call to next steps was pleasant, clear and highly professional. My first contact with them was through Megan and she could not have been more helpful and friendly. She helped me find an appointment almost immediately and navigated me through the information needed for insurance. It was fast and hassle free. I received email and text confirmation afterwards. Upon arriving for our appointment, COVID protocols were neatly followed. I felt very safe and taken care of. Our appointment started right on time. We were helped by Shimei and she was incredibly patient and attentive to my overly dramatic kid ("aww this hurts" when really nothing was happening). She took her time explaining things along the way and kindly educating me on what we can do better. Dr. Amy Chen came in after the cleaning finished. She as well was really nice and helpful. Last but not least, this might sound silly given they are a pediatric dentistry but they really know how to work with kids. My son was shown instruments and then asked whether he would be ok with that being in his mouth. They had a tv in the ceiling playing a movie my son loved. They gave a goodie bag and a toy at the end of our visit. They also explained treatment options well and were transparent about costs involved and insurance coverage. Really great service. read more

It's hard to decide on a pediatric dentist. If you are not sure, OPD has been great for our kids the past 2 years. The office decor is nice and modern. Most importantly, we have been impressed by the quality of care and the attention of the staff at OPD. Dr Pang is a straight shooter. Mei and Serena are very patient with the children. The front desk staff - Brielle, Mel, and Laura - are always very pleasant and helpful too. I think the big indicator is my kids look forward to their dentist visits. We're about to move and I suspect we'll miss the kind, thoughtful, thorough care and the extra special touches of this office, staff and doctors. Smooth and guided walkthrough upon entering the space. Friendly, fun bathroom. Patience and explanation to both grown-ups and little patients alike. Lots of careful planning and experience is evident in the service they provide. They treat the patient as a person (new to this experience) and not just a mouth with teeth. I appreciated that they gave us a heads up about their relationship with our insurance provider changing. No surprises and no lingering questions. OPDSF made my morning. I was feeling frazzled and stressed when we showed up late for our appointment, but front desk staff and the dental assistant Mei were very understanding and kind. Mei went above and beyond in cleaning Lily's teeth carefully while also spending so much more time with her than I would've expected -- explaining what she was doing, as well as patiently waiting with her while she picked out a prize at the end. It was just routine cleaning for my daughter, took less than 15 minutes service got charged of $474 wanted me to pay upfront and telling me that my insurance will reimburse the amount which was a false statement. I ended up paying $330 extra for my own. They charged us of oral evaluation for $ 142 which the dentist? Talked about my daughter is in good condition for less than 2 minutes, also separately charged for apply Fluoride for $89, cleaning $125, x-rays $118. They added all this without any explanation, feel like I was being a violated by their unprofessionalism and GREED. I am going to file the complaint for this dentist. This review is in relation to the office staff and not to the Dr Pang and to the dental hygienist. I was referred to this office by a friend. Despite the fact that this practice is out of network with my insurance, I had wanted to experience Dr Pang and her esteemed practice. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and I made another appointment for my child to get treatment done. I paid a deposit for the upcoming appointment but decided the need to cancel since I had found another dentist that is in network with Delta Dental. The deposit receipt indicates to kindly cancel appointment 48hrs before the appointment or the risk losing the deposit. My child's appt was scheduled on a Wednesday and I had made the cancellation on Monday morning. It was 49 hours before the appointment. The office staff refused to refund me the deposit that I had put down. I am aware that insurance will change next year and I was hoping to have my child's teeth taken care of with my existing insurance now and switching back to Dr Pang when my insurance changes. However from this experience with Janelle the front desk staff, I had seen the true colors of this practice. I was berated over the phone as I had calmly and reasonably wanted an explanation of why my deposit was not being issued back when the cancellation was clearly made more than 48hrs before the scheduled appointment A call back from office manager was the solution in ending the call. Front desk was not professional or helpful to explain claim situation. They would only tell you that you have to pay upfront as Delta Dental is out of network. They mentioned that Delta would pay me back once the claim is processed. They would avoid telling me how much each chargeable item would be reimbursed. In addition,I will have to call them once the 1st claim is processed before they could submit a 2nd claim to my secondary insurance. Apart from the high cost, it is not very inconvenient for busy parents to have to do that. To help you understand what it means that Delta Dental is out of network. We were asked to check out first which took about 5-10mins. Then, they sent Dr. Chen to the check out area so that we could talk to her for 2-3 minutes in the hallway as she had been busy working with another patient who needed her attention more than my son. Checked out with a 3 month appt and a 6 month appt. We were late to my son's class at 4pm. Pros: the registered dental assistant was patient and helped sidetracked my son and completed the teeth cleaning process. Dr. Chen is a nice dentist. Cons: The cost is high if you have delta dental insurance. The dentist is not one who did the teeth cleaning. The registered dental assistant was not under supervision. She was also not a dental hygienist. My son didn't like the unscented toothpaste as it feels sandy. This dentistry also has a raffle/ game with prizes if you leave them yelp comments. However, I don't know how does it work. If money is not an issue, then this is a good dentistry to go. If you need a contracted dentist with delta dental, this may not be a place for you. If your kids are scared of seeing a dentist, you may try it out once to see if it works for your family. Per delta dental representative, this place is on a pricier end as we had to pay $441 upfront for a simple teeth cleaning for a child. You may have other choices out there so check out delta's website. read more

While I really appreciate the kind, thoughtful and thorough dental care from this office, the front desk/billing function really leaves much to be desired. Don't get me wrong, I really like Dr. Dorothy Pang but the follow up required for billing is unacceptable. A few days prior to my daughter's appointment, I called the office and told them I have a new insurance. I gave them the information and she said I was good to go. For whatever reason, they decided to bill my old insurance and I had to call to remind them I have new insurance. Well, my dental insurance inaccurately rejected the dental claim for her cleaning in Jun'23 and I GUESS it's patient responsibility to ask my insurance why since there was no follow up from the practice. This subsequently resulted in me having to pay for my daughter's dental visit in Jan'24 in full. No biggie since they told me they would submit the claim on my behalf and the insurance would send me the check directly. With regards to the denied claim on Jun'23, I followed up and had my insurance resubmit the claim and it got processed pretty quickly but my insurance didn't process the claim correctly for the Jun'23 service so I, again, had to call my insurance to have them resubmit. It's now Mar'24 and I realized I haven't received an insurance check for work done in Jan'24. I logged into my insurance and looks like OPDSF incorrectly submitted the claim and had the checked mailed to their office. There was no statement from OPDSF mentioning I had a credit balance which was paid electronically to the practice in Jan'24. I called today and spoke to Laura. Apparently, I have to go in person to pick up the check which are only cut twice a month for an error they made. Laura said I can keep the credit balance on my account but why would I do that? (1) I paid for my services up front (2) My insurance covers preventative services at 100% (3) My daughter only goes 1-2 times a year for her six month check ups. She then said she can have the check mailed but they won't be responsible for lost checks which is just bogus to me. Literally, they inconvenience they're customers for their own mistake. In summary, know your insurance, check OPDSF correctly submits your claims and validate your insurance correctly processes your claims because OPDSF won't check for you. Thankfully, I used to manage a dental office so I can navigate this pretty easily. I find their due diligence and customer service severely lacking which seems to be a common complaint when reviewing other reviews. This is unfortunate since their RDHs and Dr. Pang are great. read more

I took my daughter Yui for her first visit today. All of the staff were super friendly. Serena did an excellent job keeping Yui happy, cleaning Yui's teeth and explaining everything to me. I actually had a really stressful morning before I came in and left in a much better mood thanks to all the staff. Annie and Lauren at the front were very professional and kid friendly. Yui likes them too! Dr. Pang was super nice and knowledgeable. She definitely seemed to genuinely care about my kids. Yui was a bit nervous but the staff were all super sweet and tried to make her comfortable and happy. Recently passed by this office while going to the Safeway across the street. It brought back a lot of memories of going to the dentist as a kid (from elementary school to surprisingly my first year of grad school before I was gently informed I had "aged out"). Back then Dr. Pang was practicing at the Sunset Dental Building before moving (can't remember if once or twice) to the current location. She did a lot of fillings for my childhood cavities (thank you Dr. Pang!). Later on Dr. Chen joined the practice. Both dentists are excellent and gentle pediatric dentists who truly care about their patients. This was also one of the few bilingual Cantonese-English environments for me growing up as well. read more

The front office, staff, and Dr. Lee were extremely friendly and helpful. I went in to get replacement retainers and Taea explained the different options and answered all my questions. Just so you understand how much I love Dr Pang and the hygienist staff here (Stella and Claireace most recently), I pay out of network and I turn my schedule upside down to bring my kids here. We've been coming for more than 5 years. At first, we stuck around because Dr Pang is brilliant, no nonsense, and she had the perfect "bedside manner" with my toddler when she was overstimulated and scared. This same child has been very comfortable in this office since that first visit. The hygienists are always very kind, gentle, compassionate, they're knowledgeable and do the job perfectly. I brought my second child here as soon as she was old enough. The ceiling TVs and headphones are something they look forward to plus the toys (I love that they provide only one) and new toothbrushes. They also get their names added to a raffle for a large toy if they have no cavities, which gets them very excited. I look forward to the hygienists' kindness towards my kids and to Dr. Pang's analytical and insightful approach to any issues. We've been now two or three times since COVID began and really appreciate their precautions. Temperature taken of all people entering, sanitizer required for all people entering, keeping adults out of the cleaning area unless necessary, requiring masks, all staff masked as well, clean pens provided for forms, and so forth. read more

My baby's first ever dentist visit. She's got 6 teef and I was worried about what I should be doing other than brushing so we came here based on a moms group recc on Facebook! The recc wasn't wrong. The staff here are so friendly, from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out. Checkout was easy (thanks Annie) and knowing i would not have to worry about submitting paperwork for insurance is always a plus. I'm not sure how it will go when they are no longer in network for delta dental, but I'll see how that goes - they're worth the try. Overall, the staff was attentive , kind, patient and gentle! Serena, the dental assistant, was sweet and knowledgeable, and provided a great intro for us. The rooms are large, airy and have plenty of seating! The waiting room is pretty larger too. TVs are available for the kiddos once they know how to lay in the chair. As a first timer, I wasn't sure how to hold my baby for her checkup but Serena was super patient and gentle in showing us how! The staff listened to my questions, providing guidance and advice. I appreciated Dr. Mo taking her time, as a mom herself, to check over the gum line. I felt I left the office knowing better how to care for my baby's teeth and hopefully she'll be more excited about her next visit (she was overwhelmed by the two new faces all masked up, but we know it's a phase - thanks to the kind staff with their understanding!!). read more

We had a great experience at OPDSF. The staffs are incredibly friendly and patient, making my kids feel comfortable throughout the process. They are caring and genuine. The office is kid-friendly, and the results are fantastic. Highly recommend! read more

My son had a crown on one of his teeth and it fell out one day. I just called OPDSF to check with them and talk to them about it and they wouldn't hear me when I tried to explain the situation. They just said make an appointment. I knew it would be a waste of time but trying to be a responsible parent I made the appointment. When we came in they set up as if he needed it re-cemented back in. I told them I don't think that's going to be needed and when the Dentist took a look she saw what I was trying to say was true, agreed and walked us out and told the receptionist not to charge us. My son's mother moved to a new location and now wants to change dentist out of convenience and distance from her, so we called for his dental records to be transferred. And they are saying we owe them $150. $150 for what? Just so you could confirm what I already knew and after you made us make an appointment? And when I followed up and called about this they refused to take responsibility and make it right with the insurance company and us. Her exact words were "it's out of our hands, you need to take it up with the insurance". My issue is, why did they send an invoice to the insurance in the first place when they didn't do anything? The visit lasted all of 3-5 minutes. How do you justify $150 or $115 or what ever it was, for doing nothing but opening his mouth, looking at the whole in his mouth, and confirming that it was just a baby tooth falling out, then sending us on our merry way. And now they are holding up his dental records. I am doing this review to warn any future patients to this facility. It looks like a nice place and they may do good work and seem friendly. But they are sneaky and unethical and unwilling to be accountable for their mistakes, as far as I'm concerned, and I don't want any other parents to have to deal with this robbery and time consuming frustration. read more
