I wanted an alternative so I decided to seek out a medical dietitian. I found Lisa Dawes who was in my area. I have been with Lisa for ten weeks now. First, she went over my blood tests. She made suggestions on my food program as well as vitamins and supplements. I took her suggestions and applied them. Along the way she listens and takes the time to understand my lifestyle and tailors her advice to my needs. I feel more confident on my food choices now. Lisa doesn't say you should not eat this or that. She creates space for you to make the decision for you to choose if you want to eat a cookie or a slice of cake or whatever. What I learned is that it's important to be in the moment so you can make the choice. Lisa provides not only dietary advice but also emotional support during my journey. Lisa's advice was stop weighing yourself as your body will take care of itself by being on the program. This is so true. After 3 weeks, I saw a difference in my clothes and feeling so much better about myself. I also have better sleeping. Seeking out help was a present to myself. And my husband saw her once to get his plan too which was very helpful to him. This is a lifestyle change with mindful eating. I can't thank Lisa enough. She has made a positive impact on my health journey. I hope this review gives a spark to others to seek out a medical dietitian like Lisa Dawes.

Emily is amazing, she really respects that every system is diff rent, and we all run on our own individual schedules, she knows I am a running fool, and I am a long time vegetarian she worked with me and taught me all about the array of super foods and nutrients I needed to fuel my body with to assure I was giving back exactly what I was burning! I took this information to my runners and am continuing to love and respect food or "fuel" for what it is! She looks over my food charts weekly and is available daily for food support and recipes and suggestions for clean power foods and supplements etc that I would not have tried otherwise. I have worked with nutritionists in the past who do the basic weekly food checks with me but Emily has a very revolutionized method that incorporates ALL aspects of good health, wellbeing, mindfulness, movement, focused exercise and nutrition all together. She provides a complete package that includes all the nutrition and food support anyone would need with expert suggestions and insights. PLUS she encourages and takes our twice-weekly meetings out into nature for power walks, mindful meditation, pilates, stretching, beach walks etc so that the coaching and food work follows me everywhere in my daily life in a truly positive and all encompassing way. It is a miraculous way to break one out of a negative mind set and turn around a life that was going the wrong way for many years. I am truly amazed at all the accomplishments so far and look forward to many more to come. Emily is also a trained pilates instructor and introduced me to trying pilates for my first time on a reformer machine which is an amazing and awesome experience I now do weekly. In the past I have only done pilates mat classes and felt intimidated to try a reformer machine because I wasn't confident in my ability to keep up with classmates and use the machine correctly and I hate not doing well at things. Emily has such a glowing and supportive spirit that it wasn't hard to agree to try this workout with her. The one on one work reformer work I have done so far is super helpful and not at all stressful since she tailors each session to my needs and current ability. I have experienced nothing but great results through her expert instruction, dynamic personality, and desire to help me in every area of my life that needed healing. I wish I could give her 20 stars! I cannot recommend her highly enough!

You could spend the rest of your lifetime searching for a better, more capable, more compassionate…read morehealer than Dr. Laurie and come up completely empty-handed. In fact, I'd be willing to place a small wager that is exactly how it would play out. In my estimation Dr. Laurie is a True Healer in that she does not simply try to relieve or mask symptoms, but rather aims to lead you to your healthiest, highest vibrational self. Laurie's intuition and integrity are second to none. Her compass is aimed True North and it does not waiver. She uses natural, holistic modalities and only resorts to herbs and/or supplements when she is very clear that is what will serve you best. I never once felt like she was trying to sell me something or encouraging me to take excessive amounts of things. In fact, it was quite the opposite. She consistently encouraged me to simplify my supplement regimen and focus more on my diet, exercise and lifestyle choices. This was a very difficult approach for me to embrace, being that I've always been in search of more supplements and magic pills that would "fix" me. When I finally started to really take ownership of my food intake specifically, I began to realize why Dr. Laurie was so adamant that I look first to food for my medicine. I am not exaggerating when I say that when I showed up to Dr. Laurie's office for the first time, I was physically, spiritually and emotionally broken. Dr. Laurie firmly, yet compassionately led me back to a My Path. I had spent the better part of half a life avoiding, mistreating and numbing myself, so the journey wasn't always easy and the results didn't happen overnight, but upon meeting Dr. Laurie for the first time, I never once questioned whether I was in the right place or not. To be honest, I don't think I've ever left a review for anything, ever in my life. But because I relied on past reviewers as my entry point to ultimately deciding to reach out to Dr. Laurie, I feel the urge to write this review in hopes that it might help somebody (or somebodies) who are looking for guidance from a world-class human and healer. This is a different kind of medicine/healthcare than many of us are used to. It is not some "magical" modern technology or pill that promises to instantly "fix" you. My advice would be to commit to 5-10 visits/treatments with Dr. Laurie. Take it seriously. Give yourself the time and grace to rest and recalibrate after the first few treatments, as it may stir some stuff up and you may feel tired, etc. Monitor closely the changes you experience over 5-10 treatments. My guess is that you will find yourself on a new path. If you feel the call, trust that path and in a few Months you will likely find yourself in a new, better place. I strongly urge you to at least try this for yourself. If you won't do it for yourself, do it for the people and the world around you. Do not underestimate the impact the best version of yourself can have on this world and the people you love. "If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation." -Wang Fu ***** This review was written by my husband and posted from my account. It is based on his experience after seeing Dr. Laurie for approximately 18 months. ****

Her recommendations for homeopathic remedies are so refreshing! She is very kind, thorough and provides wonderful insights into health and wellness. I now, Jan'21 find myself back to her for a seemingly incurable hand irritation (think contact dermatitis). I spent nearly a year trying to figure it out with a topical steroid/mineral oil aka Vaseline/Aquaphor (just don't) that was recommended by a doctor. She nailed it with natural topical oil, herb capsules, floral essence tincture and acupuncture. I am now cured of the annoying irritation which took only one week from my visit. I didn't realize how much it was impacting my daily life which consisted of constant worry of an allergy reaction and itching. I am really doing a re-haul on my body these days and have her to thank.

As written for an article I wrote for the Bakersfield Voice in 27 November 2008:…read more --- "I went into my new dietitian with fear and doubt in my heart. I came out with hope. She was totally young and friendly, and was definitely healthy (at least by all outward appearances). Although she has never had an eating disorder, she took me seriously, and told me she has worked with eating disordered patients for 8 years. After getting her BS in dietetics, she attempted to start her internship, but they had none available. So she decided to get involved in a research project where she surveyed youths about eating disorder behaviours. From that, she started a healthy body image and eating disorder seminar that she would give in health classes. To me, this is so awesome because this is exactly what I want to do some day- I want to work with adolescents with eating disorders as a dietitian, as I began to exhibit eating disordered behaviours when I was ~ 8 years old myself. Of course, her past experience touched my heart. Then she said that doing all the research really interested her in helping those with eating disorders, but she didn't know where to go in Bakersfield to do so. Well, she found a therapist (Katherine Smith- the woman I was supposed to be seeing now, but she had to refer me to another therapist as she is resigning from her practise) and they began working together 8 years ago. She was completely open and honest and we even went over a small meal plan (not too overwhelming) to start me back on the road to recovery. She honestly listened to everything I had to talk about. Hilariously enough, she doesn't like my previous dietitian either, and even cracked a joke about her. Heheheh. So that totally put me at ease that we were on the same page. And get this (and this REALLY had me reeling): SHE was the one who brought up the tube, after she had heard that I had an NG at Remuda Ranch. She said she really recommended me for the PEG this time as it would be more long-term and wouldn't be so obvious (like the NG, for example). I was shocked that she would bring it up without me asking that I started tearing up. So she wanted me to work on the meal plan, call the surgeon tomorrow ("he's a young, hip Indian doctor- I think you'll like him"), and then call her about when the appointment is. I'm just...shocked and a little scared. But happy that I've found someone who just listens, who isn't talking about their past, who wants to move forward, and who is on the same page. Thanks, Diane Campbell, for restoring my faith." --- Edit, as of 3 March 2009: Just wanted to update this article, as it was written nearly 5 months ago. Diane is still my dietitian, and I credit her greatly for my continuing motivation (though, of course, fighting the behaviours has not been all sunshine and rainbows, you know?). What's more is that, unlike any other professionals I've seen, she is constantly in contact with me- by phone calls, e-mail, and even text message (on my cell phone). However, I'd like to point out that she does NOT cross professional boundaries, and makes sure not to just become an "expensive friend with some good advice." I also really appreciate that she doesn't just throw some random "healthy meal plan" at me, and expect me to just do it. Right now, for example, even though the amount I am eating is, by any "normal" standards, much too low, she realises that any more would not be "safe" for me, and just wants me to slowly challenge myself to build up to something healthier. Diane Campbell has given me a chance that others did not. I found Stephanie after being utterly let down by western medicine practitioners after trying to…read moreget relief for some digestive issues I had struggled with for over a year. After seeing numerous doctors through my insurance who made me feel both insulted (one doctor said that my bloating was either menstrual or due to eating an abundance of nuts- neither were the case in the slightest) and not taken seriously with what i'd been experiencing, I was growing depressed and in fear whenever I ate anything. I even went so far as to have a colonoscopy/endoscopy at age 27! The results were that I had some inflammation in my esophagus and I was put on an over the counter acid reducer, which only made my symptoms of bloating, fatigue and rashes even worse! It was so bad that if I ate certain things I would fall asleep in the middle of the day due to my body just shutting down, very scary for me as a busy and generally healthy person in my mid twenties. After speaking with my Husband and parents, they agreed with me that seeking out a nutritionist/holistic practitioner was the only way to progress in having any hope of finding a diagnosis. I found Sound Body Nutrition and called immediately out of sheer desperation and I believe I scheduled a free consultation for either that day or the next day! From that very first conversation, I could tell immediately that Stephanie cared about my plight and even told me that something similar had happened to her with misdiagnosis, which made me feel so much more at ease to know that she had true empathy for my situation. She was flexible with me about accepting a payment plan, and I felt so incredibly supported as I went through the testing and awaited results. It was life changing to get the results back and see that not only had I been eating healthy foods that were causing inflammation in my system (garbanzo beans were one for me, so just goes to show that triggers can be anything!), but I had an overgrowth of H.Pylori which explained all of my symptoms! In addition to that, the H.pylori had actually lowered my stomach acid, thus making it harder to digest reasonable foods (I am a trained chef and we already ate all organic and gluten free as my Husband has Crohn's Disease and is Celiac). The acid reducer that the Gastroenterologist had put me on was the opposite treatment to what my body actually needed, no wonder I felt worse! After over a year of being convinced that nothing major was wrong, or made to feel by doctors that the symptoms were all in my head because they could not figure out what was wrong, I was finally validated. Over the course of the next months, (I began treatment about one month before our wedding!) I was put on a supplement protocol and by the time of the wedding I was already feeling much better than I had been! Now, about 5 months later I am able to eat freely, feel better than I have in years, and am not in constant fear of having symptoms any time I eat. I was aided so much through the program that my Husband, who has a long history of digestive issues, went through her program as well, and we are both now feeling better than we have since our health issues began. If you are on the fence, or intimidated by the cost, I can say that it may seem like a lot, but how much I value my sanity and physical health is really priceless, and Stephanie really and truly saved our lives. I was barely able to get out of bed, and now we live on a farm and work all day with energy to spare! I hope that anyone who needs help, or has lost faith in a majority of western medicine finds Sound Body Nutrition. It has been absolutely life changing for us both. Thank you, Stephanie, you were/are a pleasure to work with. You are such a kind, genuine, compassionate and knowledgeable human being, and we are so glad we found you!
