In advance of my latest visit I requested and received a detailed estimate for the services I was in search of. Shortly after completion of my visit which covered exactly what I asked for in my estimate, no more, not less, I received a bill including a substantial up-charge. On request for additional information, the office manager provided a garbage response lacking in any detail as to why I was charged more than the estimate. So what's the real reason why? Because they can, and they are arrogant and don't think you or I are deserving of the truth or transparency insofar as their billing practices. This is the second time the exact thing happened to me after deciding to give them another chance. Hopefully this review will save others of the piss-poor experience I've had.

From the start, he was very attentive to detail and took the time to really listen to my concerns without making me feel rushed. He asked thoughtful questions and made sure to fully understand my symptoms. He also explained everything clearly and in a way that was easy to understand, which I really appreciated. It made the whole visit feel much more reassuring. What stood out most was how caring and genuinely concerned he was about my well-being. It felt like he truly wanted me to get better, not just treat the symptoms and move on. I can understand wanting to leave the big Menlo Medical Clinic. However, I can't understand transitioning into elite medical care financially unavailable to 99% of residents here. But below is my first review which still stands true for his medical competence and intellect. Dr. Matlas is an EXCELLENT physician. He is very intelligent, personable and an all around excellent physician. He does not over prescribe medications or tests, is an excellent problem solver and a compassionate human being. I also liked the waterfall and the detailed map in the front entryway. There was also an elevator along with stairs and a number of parking spaces. I saw Dr. Nguyen and she was in the allergy clinic on the second floor. Her staff/that office was very helpful since I did not receive the snail mail copy of questionnaire and I was able to fill it out in person. The only thing I felt a little awkward with was when it came time for me to get my allergy Test done, Dr. Nguyen, female doctor left the room and a male nurse came in to put the different allergens on my back as I was wearing a patient gown that was open in the back without my bra. Kind of awkward since all my encounters prior to this were female doctors or Female receptionist. I wish I could've asked for a woman to come in beforehand, but whatever! I needed to get the allergy test done and I felt awkward anyways, but I think they should ask ahead of time if you would feel comfortable with a male person touching your back without your bra on. Everything else was fine and he was professional, even though he was a male nurse. I just think it was in my head. Lol.

We are now told the terrible flu infection is not affected by Purell -only soap and water can kill the germs on one's hands. We have also heard numerous other Peninsula doctors refer to Dr. Cisco as "the best" pediatrician in the area. Sadly for us, he's recently moved from Menlo Medical to Burgess Pediatrics, a specialty practice offering a new flavor of medical care. From their website: "We will provide a different brand of high quality outpatient pediatric care. By caring for a small number of patients, we will be able to offer the accessibility and time it takes to provide a more personalized level of health care. We will offer easy, direct and unlimited access, either by phone or in person, and ample time for examinations, education and discussion." Patients at Burgess Pediatrics will pay a flat monthly rate for unlimited care from the pediatricians. This seems like a wonderful idea and service for patients who either have chronic medical needs or very deep pockets. We don't currently fall into either of these camps, so we're going to work with another pediatrician for now. If this program makes sense for your family, however, I would strongly endorse Dr. Cisco... and I suspect that their new brand of more-time-per-patient care will be great for patients. -- Original Review from Dec 2005 Dr. Cisco has been my boys' pediatrician for the past 3.5 years and we have been consistently pleased with his care. Some of our friends prefer pediatricians who are more cautious and likely to order that extra test just to be sure... if this is you, Dr. Cisco is not your guy. Our boys are prone to asthma and have several allergies, so we really appreciate the fact that our doctor has been around the block and can quickly differentiate between those situations that are serious from those that aren't. His family practice has over 2,000 patients through regular health insurance, and his lunch time is taken up by more patients from a concierge medicine program (think doctor retainer). Sure, he's sharp and quick and he's been right so far, but I don't always enjoy feeling like I'm being triaged on the battlefield or being cross examined rather than simply examined... We recently tried One Medical via Amazon…read more This service was advertised as a $49.99 virtual healthcare visit.  Upon learning that we were not physically in the US (we were in France at the time) the doctor said that he is not able to consult. Following my short explanation of the issue, he reiterated that he could not help and I should be seen in person at an urgent care type facility.  This entire call lasted less than 5 minutes.   Imagine the surprise when, a couple of weeks later, I received a bill for $230 with reason as "New Patient Office Visit: Complex".   I reached out to One Medical saying that (1) this was not an office visit (2) it certainly wasn't complex and (3) the rate for a video consult is $49.99. All I received in response was a convoluted boilerplate saying that somewhere/somehow I had picked a different path than Amazon's advertised $49.99 service, resulting in much higher billing for the same service. This response totally ignored the fact that it was not "an office visit" and there is nothing "complex" if the physician is unable to consult.    My subsequent email reiterating that this was not an office visit, that the virtual meeting lasted less than 5 mins, was by no means complex and the only outcome was the suggestion to go to an urgent care facility went unanswered. Yet the bills just keep coming. To me, this is a clear case of bait and switch wrapped around overbilling with incorrect service description. Needless to say, I have no plans to pay this outrageous and improper bill. Moreover, if One Medical do not address their disengenous practice of claiming a brief and utterly useless chat with someone who was not able to offer any medical opinion or input as a "complex visit", I plan to broadly expose this practice on social media, and report it to compliance, health authorities, consumer protection as well as to Amazon executives as they should re-evaluate their relationship with such a shady operation.
