The seaside town of Nairn boasts two championshlp golf courses as well as beautiful beaches. lt's also famous for the hugely popular Nairn Book and Arts Festival.
A few miles away is the 14th-century Cawdor Castle, filled with fascinating artefacts, antiques and furniture. Visitors can tour the beautiful grounds as well as the castle ltself. Brodie Castle is another of the area's popular attractions. You can explore sheltered woodland walks or stroll by the pond, observing the estate's varied wildlife. The castle itself contains fine French furniture, stunning artworks and a magnificent library containing some 6000 books.
There is a good path network leading out from the town up the River Nairn, connecting with Cawdor, and eastwards into die Culbin Forest and the RSPB reserve of Culbin Sands. A few miles from the town is Fort George. This vast garrison fortress was begun in the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden. read more
