Booking experience - as an expat living in Singapore traveling to the UK for an occasion, I booked online via the Yelp appointment messaging function. It was my first time using this feature, and I was so happy with the experience. The salon was so responsive (living up to their 100% responsiveness rate), which made it really easy for me to book even with timezones and my busy Pre-travel schedule. I even booked in my boyfriend (who was traveling from the US) for an appointment! The service - from start to finish, everyone I interacted with at the salon was incredibly nice and respectful, both to the customers and each other which made for a great experience. They also had me come in a day early to test the toner for allergies, which showed me the level of care/thought they put in, and I was able to align on the plan for my hair with my fabulous stylist Hannah. It was clear from that convo that Hannah knows what she's doing with blonde highlights AND curly hair - I always ask for recommendations from my stylists (trust the experts!) without me even telling her, she did exactly as I have had done by my hair stylist in the US who had been doing my hair for 5+ years: a mix of blondes to give dimension, extra of the light blonde and layers around my face to frame it, and some light layers in the back for crown volume. The color/cut - Hannah did a fantastic job with both! The color turned out amazingly natural looking, just the right level warmth, and some shine (which is difficult to get with my dry curly hair). The layers at the face were exactly the angle I like them, and I can see a slight difference in crown volume from the layers in the back. The price - for the level of service and quality of cut/color, the prices were very reasonable! I had gone to a much more expensive salon in London over the holidays, as I was nervous about a bad result (charging £60 for a blow out, which I was surprised to find wasn't included in the cut and color), and found that I like my hair from Feel just as much as that salon and actually preferred the service of Feel (much warmer and more personal). Oh and my Boyfriend (who has Long curly hair) also had a great experience with the salon and his stylist, Tom - and was pleasantly surprised at how affordable the salon was! Overall, thanks Feel Hairdressers, Hannah, and Tom for a great experience, and great hair! Hope to see you again soon :)

It is always difficult to find your hairdresser in a new city. After experimenting with a few…read moresalons in London and leaving unsatisfied, I discovered The Lounge in Soho. Conveniently located by Berwick Street market (which is how I first noticed it), The Lounge is a cool little salon adjacent to the sex shops of Walker's Court. I made a booking with Ferdia through their seamless online reservation system, which I wish all salons offered. Their system allows you to select your hairdresser (or use the first available) and the service(s) you are after, choose the date you would like to come in, and then it shows you all available times that you can then instantly book. Simple and stress-relieving. The first time I came to see Ferdia, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my hair but knew that my partially grown bangs looked atrocious. Her styling and cutting knowledge became readily apparent as she cut my hair into a beautiful "lob" with sideswept bangs (this was early 2013) that accentuated my cheekbones. I was not expecting such a great cut, especially at such reasonable prices. The offer of complimentary coffee, tea, and freshly-delivered brownies improved an already enjoyable experience. Everyone on the staff is very friendly and professional. I have never had anything but a haircut here, but would trust them with anything based on the looks I have seen come out of the salon. Even though I no longer work in Soho, I will make a trip out there just to get my hair cut with Ferdia (okay, and maybe to squeeze in a bit of shopping while I'm at it).

I came in first to see Michael, who did a fantastic job on my cut…read more Unfortunately, we seemed to get our wires completely crossed on colour and I left quite unhappy. I actually cried about the colour when I got home and I've never actually done that before. Embarrassing. Ouch. He attempted to correct it at a second visit but things were still unfortunately nowhere near what I had wanted. I spoke with Michelle, the fantastically attentive manager, throughout this and when the first correction failed, she finally put me in touch with Lottie, who has gotten me closer to my desired colour and whom I will be seeing from now on. Hopefully in another visit or two she'll have my colour where I wanted it to be. Everyone at the salon went above and beyond to help me out throughout all this, and that's incredibly rare, especially when something fails to meet your expectations. They've gone the extra step to make sure that I'm with a stylist who understands what I'd like out of my hair, and I feel like I'm in very good hands with both Lottie and Michelle in general. As for the salon itself, it's a small footprint with an upstairs (for cutting and clipping) and a downstairs (for colour and washing), located just opposite the Co-Op on Berwick Street. The general feel is very unpretentious and relaxed, with a hip vibe, good energy, and cheerful staff. In terms of accessibility: the stairs down to the wash stations and colouring area are very steep and quite narrow, so if you have any mobility or balance issues, they really might not be for you. The wash station chairs are also a little awkward, and I wouldn't recommend them if you have any neck or upper spine issues. Lighting throughout is exposed/bare fluorescent tubes. Tea, coffee, and sweet nibbles (usually brownies, but this time of year mini mince pies) as well as beer etc are complimentary and a really lovely touch. Prices are in line with the neighbourhood, and the products used are indie brands. So in essence, after a somewhat disastrous start, I now feel like I've actually found an excellent stylist to take care of me. I'll update this review (hopefully with pictures) after my next visit in a couple months' time.

On the upside the staff are all welcoming and friendly and the interiors are stylish, with a fantastic location (just opposite Hampstead tube). More than that it's only fair to say that (after a cancellation on their part and having to chase with a few emails), they did arrange for me to have it re-done, free of charge, and they handled the whole thing in a very professional manner. I found Headmasters through yelp and they looked to have good reviews. I didn't need anything fancy, so I was OK with having anyone at a decent salon cut my hair. I arrived right when they opened on a Sunday in hopes that no one booked an appointment first thing in the morning. When I arrived, I asked the young man working there if they accepted walk-ins - yes; is anyone available now? - no; Ok, is there any availability later today? - maybe; Do you know around what time maybe? - 3pm, but I'm not sure; Alright, should I just come back after 3 or can I book something now? - I don't know, they'll probably be all booked by then. At this point I just walked away, they obviously didn't want my business. I understand I'm a walk-in so can't get preferential treatment over their customers with an appointment, and I get that I have no idea of how busy they are. But he already told me there might be an opening after a certain time and didn't bother to check who was free, thus not allowing my any services. This is at 9am, he literally just opened the doors to the shop, and no other customers were there. If you're fully booked, just say you're fully booked. I can understand that. Again, I can't attest to how they do hair as I wasn't even given the opportunity to even get my foot through the door. One star for the bad service by the front desk. I know this doesn't change much for their regular customers, but hopefully new customers can bring their business some where they are wanted.
