I have been staying with friends this past week and have discovered Hampstead the leafy beautiful village in North London that reminds me of Richmond but is so much nearer Town! After a few comments from my friends I realised that I desperately needed a haircut. I surveyed the salons on offer and Mad Lillies was definitely the busiest and most inviting. As it was a Saturday I didn't think I had any chance of an appointment but as luck would have it the charming girl on reception had just taken a cancellation and I was asked to pop back in half an hour or join them for what was actually kind of brunch! I sat on the comfy sofa letting the buzzy warm ambience wash over me while stuffing down 2 complimentary pains au chocolat and drinking a fresh orange juice all while my espresso was still being made! My stylist then introduced me to an assistant who ushered me downstairs (croissant still being digested) and gave me the most relaxing head massage I have ever had! All the stress of my horrible working week slowly ebbed away, My stylist was obviously very experienced and as soon as he started cutting my hair I felt at ease, comfortable in the knowledge that he had really listened to what I had told him and that he seemed to know exactly what he was doing. As I looked around the salon I couldn't t help but notice that everyone looked happy and seemed to have a great rapport with their stylists. There was a lot of laughter and a really good atmosphere and suffice to say he did actually know what he was doing and I got exactly the haircut I had asked for. Not sure when I will be back as it is a bit of a journey for me normally, but I have found myself actually wondering if my hair will last until my next visit! I felt compelled to visit Mad Lillies for the first time after reading consistently 5 star reviews, completely setting my confidence in the salon beforehand. Although the people were welcoming and friendly, I specifically stated the maximum length of hair I wanted cut as well as showing a picture of a particular style I wanted (which also featured long hair). The stylist didn't listen to me - with regard to the particular style I wanted nor the length I wanted - and ended up cutting a huge amount (my hair was almost to the bottom of my back, it's now shoulder length). I am extremely dissatisfied, especially as the haircut wasn't cheap and, having had long hair for a long time, it is a significant change I hadn't intended or anticipated I would have to get used to. I usually find complaints about hair being too short slightly unconvincing as I believe it is necessary to state the length you are willing to have cut but in this case, I was extremely clear and am now left with a haircut I don't like. read more

I visited this salon on a busy Saturday morning three weeks and really loved the noisy bustling atmosphere here. Most salons are so awkwardly quiet you feel that everyone is listening to your conversation. I read about the great head massages but i didn't get one, just a nice wash! My stylist was absolutely lovely (Savannah) and didn't make me feel like she was trotting out the same conversation for the tenth time that day. Great haircut, great atmosphere. My only gripe (and the reason why four stars instead of five) is that the female receptionist seemed a bit lazy and not really interested in making customers feel welcome. I turned up 15 minutes early and instead of asking me to take a seat and providing a drink as most salons do, she told me that my stylist wasn't ready and to come back in 15 minutes, so i had to wander around in the rain for this time. A great salon! The staff are all very good at what they do, friendly, and client-focused. It does get very busy on weekends especially, and it's not the biggest space - so if you're looking for relaxation, best to try and go during the week! One downside is that they don't have a computer - which is kind of inefficient (I'd prefer to be able to email or schedule my appointments online..Hershesons and other top salons have this facility now). I have had my hair styled by a few different people at Mad Lillies over the years, and am never disappointed. In fact, I frequently get compliments on my hair. For cut and colour, I cannot recommend Jenni highly enough. She works magic on my hair, and is a lovely person who really takes pride in what she does. Mad Lillies = No More Bad Hair Days! read more

After moving to Hampstead 2 years I wanted to find a new hairdressers. I was a bit concerned that the local hairdresses might be a bit snooty. Someone recommended Mad Lillies so I gave it a go and I've been going there ever since. Everyone is very friendly and customer focused. When I'm sat in the chair with a head full of foils and doing a bit of people watching I can see that there are a lot of regulars who have really good relationships with their stylists. The stylists all appear to be pretty cool but there's no 'too cool for school-ness' like you find in some other salons. I have my hair done with Atul and I'm always really pleased with the result. Mad Lillies is incredible. Nobody has ever made my hair look so beautiful, and however hard I try, or much I spend, or where I go, it's never the same! Recently they coloured my hair (highlights) and i've been so pleased that I really recommend this hairdressers to anyone. The staff there are very friendly and the prices are affordable. You can ask for almost anything, and the stylists are always able to achieve it, leaving you looking gorgeous! They use good quality products on your hair, and the whole procedure of washing/cutting/blowdrying is very professional. Mad Lillies is definitely the best place in North London, let alone Hampstead for any hair requirements. read more

I had Liz who gave me a cut which really suited me. It was maybe a wee bit too short to begin with, but I quickly learnt how to style it myself in a way which looked fantastic every time. And, most importantly for me, the style grew out very well and lasted for weeks - I didn't have to go back for a hair cut for at least 9 weeks. In my eyes, that is a sign of a really talented hairdresser. Especially with my hair, its very silky and can get heavy quite quickly. Anyone who has helped me avoid going back for hair cuts frequently knows what they are doing. The stylist was also warm and friendly. read more

Amazing salon ! I was walking past with my girlfriend and we both needed a cut. We was told there was only senior stylist available, which was great ! I was welcomed by my stylist called Charles,who turned out to be fantastic. I was taken down stairs to be shampooed and was given the best head massage. Charles had given me a great consultation and he had done exactly what I had asked. The atmosphere was great and the service of coffee and cup cakes made our day . I will be defiantly going back to Madlillies as I had such an amazing experience and was very happy with my hair cut. read more

"A Unique Find" Having recently moved to the Hampstead area. I decided that I needed to find myself a new salon. I have impossibly high expectations and standards, and yet the colour, styling knowledge/ expertise I received greatly impressed me. My hair was the richest, shiniest combination of colour without looking at all obvious or "done". This was followed up with a precision cut and blowdry, and some great tips on haircare. It was runaway perfect. I can't believe my luck in finding this slice of salon heaven. Highly recommend. read more

Visiting Hampstead from Ireland and needed an emergency blow dry, popped in on Friday and was given an appointment for Saturday. I was warmly greeted on both days and I had a comforting consultation. They looked after me with complementary croissants and orange juice and they also looked after my daughter who is 7 although the salon was extremely busy. I loved my blow dry and I was extremely impressed with whole service. I will definitely come back next time I am in town. read more

What can I say about this Salon that has not already been said?? I first went there 3 years ago & straight away felt comfortable as the staff seem genuinely happy to see you. The stylist (Savanna) who I've returned to every time actually listens to what you want, rather than just cutting the latest trends (toni & guy take note!) The lovely stylist, Jenny, took the time to study my type of hair, listened to what I wanted and made my hair look beautiful. I love this place. They have worked absolute miracles with my frizzy mop, after a couple of straightening treatments and stylish cuts it is now a swishtastic, comment inducing wonder!
