I can't with this ridiculous piece of litter, which is nothing but ads, obnoxious "analysis and opinion" pieces, and local news items you can read about pretty much anywhere else online for free. I don't pay for this paper and can't seem to stop it from being thrown towards my house on a daily basis. Sometimes it's on my steps, other times buried in the plants nearby. How many households like mine never read this, and have to put the plastic sleeve and rubber band in the trash and the paper in the recycling bin *every day for years and years* because they can't stop it from being left on their lawn? This is a horrible waste of resources which is clearly driven by Nadig Newspapers needing to inflate their readership numbers so they can collect ad revenue. Gross. read more

Y'know... I occasionally read this paper and sometimes there are interesting things in it. Their editorials leave me cold, mostly because they're not in sync with my political views, but that's okay, I can agree to disagree. What I object to is the utter lack of customer service they offer. I own a two-flat. I've been getting three copies of the paper since we moved here. Since my sister, who lives in one of the apartments, doesn't read the paper (or if she does she'll read mine) and since there isn't a basement apartment, there is absolutely no reason why we should be getting three papers. It's wasteful and it litters up our porch. (Anyone who lives in Portage Park knows that our porches are perpetually littered with ads and ad papers. It's actually pretty horrible.) So this year I finally got tired of picking up all the crap and stated phoning and emailing all the companies that drop their papers here. I told them not to deliver here and though it took a while, I did manage to stop them all. Except for Nadig. I have emailed them numerous times, phoned, left messages with the very nice woman who answers the phone, I've spoken to the paper boy who assured me that he HAD to deliver them and deliver as many papers as there are doorbells (We have one for the basement because we work down there sometimes.) I offered to pay him anyhow for the papers if he'd just bring one, but he told me he couldn't do that. I even threatened to save up all the papers and come dump them on the floor of the office. Nothing worked. It was as if my complaints dropped into a black hole. There was no response except from the poor kid delivering the papers, who is a good kid and who I'm willing to support in his efforts to make some honest money. Why should it be so hard to get just one newspaper? Why should it be impossible to get any sort of response from Nadig? What the heck is wrong with a company which has such a crappy attitude towards customer concerns? Finally the other day I caught the kid as he was coming up the stairs and I told him flat out that he was not to put any more papers on my porch. Period. That sucks for him, it sucks for me who would enjoy reading the paper, and it's lost Nadig and Nadig's advertisers a customer. If the Nadigs want to arrange to have a single copy of their paper delivered here I will GLADLY pay for it. But until I get some assurance that I will get only one, that the waste and littering will stop, I won't have anything more to do with them and this one star review stands as a testament to their complete unwillingness to work with their audience. read more

I don't think John F. gets it. I think it is a very good local paper for the neighborhood. I like the idea of the kids collecting and delivering the paper. They may not have the top journalists or photographers working here, but this paper has been serving the NW side for over 60 years. They are sold and given away in the Jeff. Par, Portage Park and Gladstone Park areas. They have local news stories, human interest stories and classifieds which have been helpful to me thru-out the last 10 years. read more

I'm shocked and dismayed that so many mean spirited "get off my lawn" types would complain about a ten year old kid delivering a newspaper. If you don't want it, simply toss it out. We're not talking the New York Times here. It only weighs a few ounces and comes once a week. How much time does that take? As for the newspaper content, granted, it's not deep investigative journalism but it keeps me up to date on the latest neighborhood issues. That, to me, is worth every penny (and it is pennies not big bucks). So lighten up Scrooges. Instead of whining about a 30 second inconvenience, why not celebrate the fact that some little kid is taking on some responsibility rather than staying glued to whatever mindless junk is offered on his or her electronic time waster. Industriousness is what made this country great. Give the kid a break (and a tip of course). read more

This is a fantastic newspaper. I played football years and years ago with its editor, Randy Erickson, and he was and is a stand up guy. Recently I learned that the owner's son took over the organ and I have noticed somewhat a decline in the journalistic standards. My cousin, the late John Belpedio, worked with Glenn and Beatrice Nadig for years and opined that they selling ad space to Butera, Annes Department Store and Asher Warso, Edmar Foods and Dan Belloc was the paper's raison d'etre with journalism being of secondary importance. That may nor may not be true and when I visit my niece, who owns a home at Kilpatrick and Roscoe, I see these papers all over the place, unread and presumably undesired. It's very heartwarming to take a walk down Milwaukee Avenue and find, 3 blocks from Nadig HQ, fertility physicians impregnating conservative Polish goddessess with diminished ovarian reserve within a stone's throw of a building named after Nicolas Copernicus AND this place, Nadig Newspaper, the interior of which has not changed since Cousin John dreamed of meeting both Haystacks Calhoun and Mariyn Chambers, the latter perhaps more than the former. While I am uncertain as to how much longer, if even one week, this place can survive, we surely need one less vacant storefront in Jefferson Park. Given the condition of this space, and those who populate it, it's clear that this is exactly what we'll have when this publication goes the way of George Magazine. read more

For starters, it's pretty obnoxious to get a paper that I never asked for in the first place. It doesn't provide any news that I can't get from DNAInfo or the ward newsletter. We've requested to have its delivery stopped, but it still ends up contaminating our doorstep with its cheap ink and ads for whatever crap the local crapstores are selling. What really gets me is that some kid rang my doorbell late the other night asking for $1.50 to pay for its delivery. $1.50! Who am I? King Solomon? I told him to scoot because I wasn't about to argue with a 10 year old over the deceptive nature of unsolicited merchandise. Nonetheless, I expect more sense from the supposed adults that run Nadig. read more

This useless rag, more real estate listings and ads than anything else, gets thrown at my house every Saturday. When I have called the telephone number on the front page, it just rings. Not even a recording to offer information. As far as I am concerned, having never asked for this paper, this is tantamount to littering and should be treated as such. read more

This review isn't about the content or paper itself. The 1 star is because we have never asked for the paper or agreed to any kind of subscription. It just started showing up one day, soon after a young kid came to collect for the paper and keeps coming back. We have asked the kid a few times NOT to deliver because we don't read the paper and just put it in the recycle bin... But he just keeps delivering. I've called the number on the front of the paper and no one has answered, no answering machine, nothing! I really don't want to ignore the kid or be rude in anyway but if this doesn't stop, I'm going to refuse to answer the door. Is this really a good business model, can I just send a kid to my neighbor's door, with a pizza for example, and ask them to pay for the pizza when it gets there? read more

I love the community newspaper that is delivered promptly by professional kids to my Sauganash Park neighbourhood; but I do wish there were more photos to complement their stories and maybe more than a few columnists to read. Great job on keeping me updated on community events! read more

As I have been getting to know my neighbors over the last few years, there is one statement I can always count on hearing: "Well, _I_ read in the Nadig that..." We all read it, we all look forward to seeing the crime report to learn what has been going down. The better coupons are right across from the crime report, so that tells you what gets the most attention. I have never cared for the editorials, but the local features and the community / school events are good to know. If you are getting this paper, receiving the 16th police district community events email from John Eischen, and getting Alderman Arena's email updates then you can be pretty sure to be up on everything in the 45th ward. It is of course a charming feature that local school children deliver it to your doorstep. You can always politely decline this service and pick it up for 50 cents at Walgreens at your convenience. read more

This little neighborhood newspaper does a very nice job of covering zoning and construction issues, local crime incidents and scheduled events. Unfortunately the Nadig folks have yet to move into the 21st century and provide its content on the web or come up with a better system of delivery than neighborhood kids who collect money door to door and stop delivering it if you are not home when they show up. If they update their business operations I'd raise my rating to 4 stars. read more

Their content is not available on the web, and delivery is not ensured. They depend on kids to deliver their papers, & I don't remember the last time anyone rang my doorbell to collect. BUT... This paper is the first place I look when I want to know what's going on around my home, or what local business I should try/patronize. I would gladly pay twice the (paltry) charge that a kid would collect if he ever came to collect, & wish that kids were as dependable as they were when my brother & I worked 4 paper routes (2 weekly), & covered for other kids when they went on vacation. I'm a lifelong resident and have long wished we had a real neighborhood paper,something closer to the Southtown then the ad. rag Nadig gives us.The owners are not from the neighborhood and their arrogance and personal bias is apparant in their glaring lack of any opportumity for residents to offer an opinion or rebutal on their political opinion column or article,few that there are.If this rag had to rely on subscriptions or purchase sales rather then kids littering the neihborhood with it it would wither and die ,just another piece of garbage blowing in the streets. read more

I have just finished reading some of the reviews that have been posted. I was surprised at how many were directed to the fact of too many newspapers and unwanted deliveries. I have received a newspaper for about two years and really would like to. I was always interested in the content (except maybe the lenghty editorials).
