Ultimately, when my hair grew in, "make the most of it." She manages to make my thin hair look fuller. Which helps me be able to wear it long(ish). Which makes me feel feminine again. Donna is a miracle worker! Highlights are not something I'd ever had before, but the ones she gives me not only makes my hair fuller, the color of the highlights/lowlights really frames my face and makes me look younger. I wouldn't have considered "hair color" but it makes a world of difference. To further plug her talent - when I arrived early last week, I saw her last week cut the hair of a 3- or 4-year old who could NOT sit still. It was amazing. Despite his antics (and a little crying when he saw his hair fall onto the grown), she QUICKLY and professionally got that kid's hair looking great. I don't know how much she charges for kids, but I hope she gets hazard pay. Speaking of prices, I have paid much, much much more - at salons in Buckhead and Brookhaven and the West Side. But no one was able to make "the most of" what I have. Additonally, I am so taken aback at how kind and caring everyone there was - did not make me feel like a freak and nonchalantly brought up ways to enhance myself in other ways. There should be a big pink ribbon outside this salon, in recognition of how awesomely they serve someone recovering (!!!) from life's hardest ordeals. I have pictures and the statements of my certified nail technician from my state. SHE CHARGED 70 dlls for this design that wasn't even what I wanted. She filled extremely roughy my nails and it hurt me really bad. The tiny little room at the left of the salon (where she works at) smells so strong. The lady who took off my nails told me that that's exactly what MMA smells and needs to be worked like. I honestly think that the reviews in her website are things the she writes because that's not the service that "sistah" offers. PLEASE READ REVIEWS! She tends to deny the bad reviews but I'm not going to let this go off like this. I'm taking actions into the matter. MMA IS BANNED FROM THE FDA. The salon offers an array of services including cuts, styling, color, punky color, and keratin treatments. Now onto the hair: Raquel is an artist. She is amazing. Her color skills are second to none, and her cuts are fabulous. Whether you want a beautiful balayage, a foxy bob, cheerful highlights, or pastels and pinky colors, Raquel has you covered. She will listen to what you want and any concerns, and she will explain what she is planning to do so there isn't any confusion. The results, in my experience, have always exceeded my expectations. I am a natural brunette, and when I met her, my hair was blue black with bangs. We transitioned to a brunette bob with honey highlights, then a blonde lob, an auburn mid length cut, long mahogany waves, long red with rose gold highlights and side bangs and most recently, long red with rose gold, violet, and pink undertones. Every cut has grown out well and the colors have blended and looked gorgeous long after most would have faded. The product lines are really high quality and styling at the studio always makes me feel completely gorgeous before I walk out the door. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of cut, color, and experience. I have recommended this studio (and especially Raquel) to several friends and they have each been thrilled with their results. I had been a client for four years and stuck with them mostly because there seemed to be limited options for salons tailoring to curly hair. I had wanted to try coloring my hair recently and booked with the salon owner who I thought would be more hands on in getting me the results I wanted. It took two visits to get the color I wanted and the attitude of the salon was not very empathetic or understanding. I also echo what others say about the hair cut only visit being pricey but you leave with frizzy, unruly hair. I'm used to situations where I felt my most confident after leaving a haircut and instead at Southern Curl, I would have to make the choice of spending over $200 to leave feeling put together vs doing the cut alone and just go straight home to wash and style my hair myself. I feel less alone reading other reviews that others got the same feeling of being a burden or nuisance. It is also pretty apparent that when you have a negative experience or feedback, the salon is quick to say goodbye and say you're not a good fit for them, again placing the blame on the client and not taking any ownership of what they could do better. As a business in the service industry, I would expect better customer service and sincerity.
