It was a pleasure to serve a man that was more profound than the persona he portrayed. My daily routine two weeks each month began at 2:30 a.m. with a drive to my small café in Bedford, Texas, to gather the linens, china, glassware, portable cooking devices and any other special requests by Mr. Harvey to complete his daily breakfast and lunch meals. In the first six months of my employment with Steve Harvey, I would listen to his morning inspirations speeches as I prepared everything from egg white omelets and T-Bone steaks, to hearty oatmeal, fish and grits. He never could remember my name and I never looked at him as a celebrity. To me, he was just Steve, the man that loved his wife, cherished his children and longed for his mother. One morning, Steve started his show by giving advice on finance. I listened carefully because of my constant need to make ends meet as a small business owner. He told his audience that if they wanted a long-term relationship with a bank to find a small branch in the middle of nowhere or a small credit union, because they treat you better. He said they have personalized service and sometimes you would probably see the bank president. He told a story of how he put his money in a small suburban bank outside Dallas Texas. I never forgot his advice. It's now 2011, and people are occupying Wall Street, banks are corrupt, the economy is going down the tubes and Americans are frustrated. In 2007, when Steve left Texas in pursuit of bigger and better things, I began federal contracting. To my surprise, after only 90 days in the process, I received my first government contract. To no avail, I went from bank to bank looking to secure funding. Although I passed the initial interviews and analysis, and had a government contract in hand, my request was still denied. Reluctantly, I headed to Washington, DC. to satisfy the terms of my contract and remain in good standing with the federal government. To survive, I borrowed money from friends and family and sold items on eBay. I refused to allow the poor lending practices of big banks to deter my entrepreneurial dreams. Recently I decided to leave Chase, Capital One and Citi because they acted poorly in overseeing my financial future. I thought an average balance of $25K and a half-million in sales would at least warrant me a dedicated banking officer. I was wrong. Today, I bank with Cornerstone Credit Union in Lancaster Texas. They were ecstatic that a defense contractor was moving to their bank. My decision to move to a smaller bank was based solely upon the advice that Steve Harvey gave his listeners years ago--patron small banks because the big banks are not willing to work with businesses who make 70 percent of the jobs in the US. A bazillion channels of which I Iistened to maybe five, and mostly just two. I have zero interest in Howard Stern, which seems to be a big selling point for Sirius. In that four months, I hear a lot of songs I hadn't heard for years. Yay. But I also hear several tunes over and over and over, to the point I want to shoot the radio. These people suffer from the same syndrome you attribute to Top 40 stations - playlist repetition/stagnation. Technical issue: this is satellite radio. The transmitter(s) is in geostationary orbit with numerous land repeaters and I live on the east coast of the USA. So, why does the radio cut out repeatedly when I drive on roads lined with tall trees? That happened a lot if I drove out of the Atlanta metro area. I ended up disabling the HD stereo mode and went analog, which helped but not enough. Their traffic feature is terrible, at least in Atlanta. I didn't have much opportunity to want to use it but late in the trial I turned it on for a few days as a test. OK, I'm driving to work on I-75 at 5:30 AM and this thing warns me of 'traffic jam' about five times in the space of 15 miles. There is hardly any traffic at that hour much less jams. I'm supposed to trust it when I'm driving in an unfamiliar location? I think not. The route feature was just as bad. It took me on a stupid route when I drove home - basically into heavier traffic than with my usual route. At the end of the trial I was still thinking maybe I'll subscribe to basic service. No Howard Stern and no Nav feature. I try to do it online but the webpage won't let me deselect Nav, even though it appears like I should be able to. I call and listen to someone who clearly knows nothing tell me to just 'deselect' the feature. Why didn't I think of that? I plead my case for a while before giving up. So, online/phone support is not too great. I also see that they only do automatic renewals. If you want to cancel, you have to call. Given the horror stories I've read about that, no thanks. So, I have a new car with a mostly inoperable Sirius XM capability. And that's fine with me. Occasionally, they open it up to non-subscribers for a couple of weeks and during those times I'll be able to hear Bob Seger's Mainstreet over and over again. Sirius XM might be the bees knees for some, but it just doesn't work for me.

I received a call stating that I was a winner on May 16, 2025, right before I moved my child out of the raggedy state in which I live. I packed her up, bought a one way ticket to move her back home from where I'm from. My funds were depleted. That call came a the right time and I felt blessed. No one ever followed up from the radio station, despite of me calling and leaving my information on the day that I was supposed to get the call from the sponsor. I blame that radio station. my call wasn't taken seriously. Let me be CLEAR. I am not thirsty for the money. I do work full time. I wanted to give half of the winnings to my child to get her through until she received her first paycheck. She works for the government now. She went home as an adult penniless.
