Did you, dear reader, know that there was an actual abbey in this location during the Middle Ages? 300 feet below this station, there actually was. Gypsum (a soft stone) mines were ubiquitous back in the day. There existed a vast network of quarry tunnels, which, in time, did need to be filled by the city by high-pressured concrete. Needless, the mines closed in 1840's, The actual metro platform was built at bedrock, 285!! steps below Place des Abbesses (where the station is located).. yup! Each Art Nouveau stop was designed by architect Hector Guimard, and really define Paris as an art haven. The first metro opened in Paris in 1900!

This Saint Paul Métro Station is in the heart of le Marais shopping area. There is a lot to see…read moreand do here. The station is located between Rue de Rivoli and Rue St Antoine, near Eglise St Paul and St Louis Church. There are both retail shops and cafés in every direction. So just start walking and you find something. Near the station we found Charcuterie Traiteur, which sells both sausages and saucisse de Lacaune (small ones), along with cheeses and desserts, while also operating a small sandwich shop in back. Nice. Also nearby is Eglise St Paul and St Louis Church, which in itself is a reason to visit here. The church is incredible and is magnificent inside. You have to see it's beautiful altar, organ and naive. Exploring the le Marais can be a lot of fun. You'll never know what you'll discover. Enjoy the journey.

Review of station not the service…read more Conveniently located down the street from the US Embassy. On the edge of Tuileries Gardens. Near the lion statue that has bullet holes in it from a war. A long leisurely stroll from the Louvre. Off the Place de la Concorde traffic circle. Part word search, part crossword puzzle can't be sure. Even with my lack of French I still try to form words! Clean. It's a busy station. Beware of pickpockets is sometimes announced. Tourist tip - just be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine.

I had to take two metro subways tonight to get from the Seine River to my final destination in Montparnassee and what a hectic experience it was. I noticed that the subway car was filled to the max as it approached, which drew an immediate concern. I basically had twenty seconds from the doors opening to the doors closing as riders entered and exited. Sadly the doors pressed onto my chest as the subway began moving. In an insane moment, I pushed with all my might sqeezing myself inside pushing everyone forward. Cant believe what I just experienced and glad to be alive. The subway was at least clean and on time.

They had official uniforms so we were forced to pay - total scam. Definitely contesting the charge on my credit card. The worst part is their utter disrespect - these guys were on a power trip, screaming, with spittle flying all over the place. These rent-a-cops need to be put in their place. We went through Gare du Nord to go to London last month, and EuroStar has actually gotten worse. I suspect this has more to do with Brexit than the train station, but it was not fun waiting in that line. It got extra unfun when my three-year-old told me he was feeling sick, then threw up all over the floor. So you know what, I'm calling it even. Gare du Nord is annoying but useful and gorgeous, and my offspring has now vomited on the floor (I ddi clean it up). I'm also giving myself permission to skip reviewing the Paul stall, where my mom picked up some pretty decent pastries and sandwiches. Three stars, and we'll see each other next time.

We came to this rail hub in Paris for our high speed train to Amsterdam. We were on the…read more"Pre-tour" portion of our river cruise and had to go to Zamdam to catch our ship. That required us to get the main station on Amsterdam, then catch a bus. What can I say. It was your typical train station with many trains ready to go and you could also catch a subway here. It was easy to maneuver through and while I was waiting I went for a coffee and a pastry. That's the special thing about Paris... even in the train station was good coffee and great pasteries. I noticed lots of Police patroling the area which definately helps make you feel just a bit more safe and comfortable. Boarding the train was quick and easy and they left right on time. KUDOs to the team here at the Gare du Nord.

I actually hurried down here because despite a wander through the Tulieries being quite a pleasant experience. Anyway, this is a station that pretty much runs from the Louvre all the way up to La Defense, and the Avenue Champs d'Elysee. More likely is that some kind of improvement work has been started, but until it's completed this station is simply a dump. It is a handy station, half way down the Champs. It has only 1 line but it is the extremely useful line 1 that runs west to east and errthe other way across Paris. Its relevance has increased in recent time with the rise of the business district around La Defense.

So MANY steps This…read moremetro station was near the hotel. Very easy to use. But.......from the north from the hotel there is an uphill walk and a flight of stairs to get to the entrance. Inside the station there's four flights of stairs to get down to the platform. At the entrance there are kiosks to purchase tickets. These tickets are good for metro, bus and tram. The kiosk takes credit cards and cash. There offer several languages. If you are in the city for several days, I recommend the T+ ten pack. The pack makes each ticket $1.80. Actually all the Paris metro stations were clean and easy to use. Good signage for lines and directions. An electric board at the platform tells you how many minutes the next two trains are out. My last recommendations- try to avoid rush hours, and load the Paris RATP app. It's easy to use and was a great help finding the lines to take. Rode it alone without issues.
