It looks really small from the outside, but it is one of those long buildings, so it has more room than you might expect. But make no mistake, the place is small compared to the big commercial fabric stores that most towns have. We parked out front and entered. This place is packed to the gills! Every square inch was loaded with fabric, or patterns, parts, accessories and in the back, they even sell vacuum cleaners! We worked our way around the store and my wife found some items she liked. I liked that even though the store is smaller, they had several folks working so that all the customers were being waited upon without delay. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly and made us feel welcome. As you might expect, the amount of fabric here isn't as large as some of the bigger quilt shops, but they do have a nice selection. One of the clerks looked it up for me at Walmart, even gave me the aisle number. All of this was wonderful, but the real reason for the review would be their lovely fabrics. I am the least skilled seamstress that ever existed. I gave up sewing long ago. I totally understand that Covid has forced us a lot of businesses to adjust their hours and the way they run - and the French Seam was no exception. Luckily, I had a day off work recently and was able to get in on a weekday during their limited business hours. Let me just say this - they have some gorgeous fabrics. Quilting cottons are separated from the garment fabrics in the small front area and they have a few notions available. I love being able to look through pre-cuts and they had a good selection of fat quarters organized by color in rolling carts available for purchase. I was also told that there was a 'clearance' area in the back/warehouse type area - so I made a break for it (you had me at clearance!). Back there I was able to score a package of fat quarters for $3 (I was told it was because they were 'old' fabrics - but who cares?) and some other pre-cut yardage at a discount. SCORE! Back in the open 'warehouse' type area also appears to be where machines are located and perhaps where classes would be held (pre/post Covid). Of note, I think I may have thrown off the older, more conservative appearing lady working in the store with my appearance when I walked in, but the younger gal working the counter was very sweet. Overall, I was excited for my new-to-me fabrics to add to my stash and glad I got to check the place out as it is SUPER close to where I live.

Despite being held in their back warehouse, everything was clean and organized, and the staff were very helpful in getting my things weighed and loaded in to my vehicle. The "Zero Landfill" event is designed to put materials donated by local area designers, dealerships, businesses, and sales reps in to the hands of crafters, collectors, artists, etc. to upcycle and/or repurpose discontinued or unused samples of various mediums. Offerings included things such as flooring, framing materials, tiles, and all kinds of fabric - all free. At the end, they weigh your haul and tell you how many pounds of materials you saved from the landfill. I am very pleased with my 120 pounds of velvet squares, curtain panels, carpet squares, and various other goodies that I was able to score. Being a curator of textiles, this event was right up my alley. To hear that almost 12,000 pounds of materials were saved from the landfill just at this event was awesome. I cannot wait to make upcycled pillow covers, table cloths, and who knows what else with my new-to-me beauties!

I put in a $300 order on March 25th and didn't get an order confirmation email. However, the funds showed as pending on my credit card. I still hadn't heard anything on March 27th, so I reached out to Yellow Door Quilt Store on Facebook Messenger. Received a one word reply: Monday. Monday came and went, and I messaged Wednesday asking if they had shipped. Crickets. I messaged again at the end of Wednesday telling them if I didn't hear from them by end of day Thursday, I was filing a dispute with my credit card. Crickets. Thursday afternoon, today, I saw that they had seen my message in Messenger, and asked, No reply? They immediately responded saying they didn't have the inventory and had cancelled the transaction so no dispute was necessary. I looked at my CC and sure enough, it had been refunded the day previous. I asked why they had said they were shipping Monday, and they answered that they were going to CHECK on Monday, and apologized for not telling me Tuesday that they didn't have the inventory. Close your damn web store.

This store used to be, years ago, "Ben Franklin" which was a fabric and craft store franchise, which no longer exists other than as a brand name which can be used for a fee. The owner, Dawn (a charming and hospitable lady who told me exactly where to find everything I asked about) explained that they didn't care to do so, and the store has been Fourman's Variety for quite some time. And variety is what you will find in this very large and thoughtfully arranged shop. Everything from spices and kitchenware, puzzles and games for all ages, school supplies and stationery, to greeting cards, gift wrap, housewares, pool supplies, pet needs, seasonal decor, giftable items, and a full aisle of candy with many nostalgic classics. PLUS a whole room of fabrics and sewing accessories, and a wall or two of crafting supplies. And....tons of used books for sale! Prices were quite reasonable throughout. Store is open six days a week, parking on the street. I am thrilled to have found this great variety store. Honestly, do you really want to spend your money at Dollar General or Walmart?
