I love this store. They have an abundant selection of crystals, rocks, minerals, as well as gift items and esoteric items. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only downside is that the store is very crowded with displays, and people like me who have mobility issues have a very difficult time getting around, although there is one bench to sit at if needing to wait for someone. I am not sure a person using a wheelchair would be able to get around the store. So, other than accessibility issues, it's a nice store. read more

The only complaint I have about this place is that they only have one cashier and since there's a lot of small pieces to purchase, checking out can take a while. With that said, if you need a rock or crystal, this is the place to go. This place was busy! Lots of workers who were pretty dang helpful. This place has an exceptional collection of crystals and other rocks/minerals. However, they are violating federal law by not providing any ADA accessible parking. I mentioned that there was nowhere for my client (who is in a wheelchair) to park her van and we were told to just park across the street in a another business's parking lot. She had trouble navigating through the store in her wheelchair because there is very limited space. It was also extremely hot inside the building and the body odor was unbearable due to no air conditioning or fans. I'd much rather buy online for the prices you'll pay here and not have to deal with the smell of onions, patchouli,and sweat. read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible service and really messed up Feng Shui, just like the entire State of Oregon. It bleeds - the messed up Feng Shui, and for a supplier or gemstones, crystals, essential oils, supplements, and the like, I had much higher expectations with regards to service and continuity or 'flow' of the store. Prior to coming here, I gave a phone call. I do not have a fancy phone, nor familiar with the area. I contemplated my mode of transit to the store (it does have a bus stop nearby, but is outside of the City center of Portland, and in a suburb). I call to clarify directions. Well, the girl on the phone sounded very young, maybe high school. She was bubbly and talked so fast, I could not get clarification regarding directions. Good ole Google says Oak Grove, Ore. while the website says Milwaukie, Ore., yet a girl on the same page as the website noting Milwaukie, Ore. the shirt she is wearing indicates the location is in Oak Grove, Ore. I asked the girl if there were, perhaps two locations? She said, "no, no, no, they're the same. Milwaukie is in Oak Grove. (???)." After that, she hung up on me and assumed I'd be fine. It was thoughtless to say the very least. Please don't make assumptions I am from the area, nor know the area, nor know anything about your store, or have a friend with me, etc. I simply desired to confirm the address, location, etc. so I wouldn't waste fuel or bus fare going to a non-existent place. I really don't think that's much to ask for, at all. Thank you. On a side note: I cannot imagine anyone who has a legitimate language barrier from perhaps visiting from another country or someone who is hard of hearing, or someone who has had a stroke. It would be nearly impossible for any of those types of individuals to communicate with this worker. (I'll skip how I *really* ended up finding the place, after some digging and clarification on the address - oy). Anywhoo - I amended this because the initial review was actually too long and wouldn't fit into the Yelp character limits. haha. I put a fuller review on a different 'site and maybe you will come across it. A mini synopses is that I felt 'watched' upon entry. While browsing through necklaces, and fragrance free lotions and salves etc. I look up: "Smile, you are on Camera." Eeeek! A couple times throughout the store I saw signs which read something such as, (and don't quote verbatim - I cannot seem to find the photo I took) - but, "anyone caught stealing will have their photo sent to the 2,000 + people on our e-mail list as well as e-mailed to other similar stores in the area." I mean really?? So you humiliate people as a way of promoting peace?And, is that your perception of the person stealing? Get rid of the high tech cameras and trust your people. If you happen to catch someone, have a conversation. Maybe he doesn't have a good home life, you know? People often desire to be included, deep down. Not everyone has a supportive family. A different sign in the store read something such as, "if you are caught stealing, your photo will be sent to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Department." I researched this later, and found that is the name of the county where this store is located. Still, yet another sign read, "if you steal, we'll have our coven of witches put a spell on you." Or, something very, very similar. I find this high tech surveillance goes beyond the measures of having a few security cameras in the event of a real life or death incident (which can happen but is so very rare). Okay, I get that. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Love over fear? Never in my life have I found intimidation or fear truly resolve any issues. I desired to peacefully walk away, but was so fearful I would be deemed to be a thief, as opposed to a sincere browser that I made a very small purchase, simply to be polite. This store, as much as I desired to like it, did not harbor positive energy or "good vibes." A young girl named Mallory was overly sales-like and chatty. I really desired to be left alone and to have asked a question if need be. But, that's real customer service. Here, you cannot even think due to the signs and the weird energy and Mallory talking to you and making suggestions and pulling items off little racks etc. without you even asking for input. Glad it's over. Wish I had the photos up of the mean scare tactics. I would really be cautious if you go in here just to browse, though. Buy something even if it is just $1 USD. Otherwise, you will be assumed to have come in under ill intent. I am very terrified to ever go back. So glad to be eons away from here, for real. read more

Mystery Gallery is an amazing gem on the South end of Milwaukie, Oregon. It is a crystal shop and metaphysical store. They sell everything from tarot/oracle cards, incense, statues, books, bags, pouches, natural & cruelty-free skin care, wind chimes, clothing, dishes, healthy drinks, and the list goes on. But, what they have the most of and probably are most recognized for is their huge collection of crystals and stones for all price ranges, and their knowledge about the health (mind-body-spirit) effects of each one. They have stones ranging from less than a dollar to over $10K! MY EXPERIENCE: When I'm feeling blue, this is one of my favorite places to visit. The energy of the crystals in generals helps me to center and ground. I've bought shirts, mugs, crystals, bags, wall tapestries, books, statues, and salt lamps from here. Haven't regretted a single purchase. I have bought uncut sapphires here for under $1 each. The one thing I don't have in my collection that I need before I leave is a red drum. They have a few animal-skin drums for shamanic journeying and I want to purchase one before I leave the state. The owners Doug and Kathy are very authentic spirit-heart-centered individuals. Doug is a bit more intense and energetic, and Kathy a bit more laid back. But they both are a plethora of knowledge about whatever you want to know. They get their crystals from auctions and crystal shows, especially in the Southwest USA. They even have products from local metaphysical authors. And compared to other metaphysical stores, they are attentive and always try to acknowledge you when you arrive. The thing this shop has that others don't is a real heart-centered business philosophy. In fact, each stone or crystal they sell is accompanied by a little piece of paper that you can take that explains what mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical healing they can be used for. This is something that is lacking from the other crystal shops and rock-hound places I've been. Kathy has always been kind to my wife and I. In fact, she gave us a $60 selenite crystal lamp as a wedding present last year! CAVEATS: This is a mom & pop small business, so you may have to wait in line a little bit, but boy is it worth it. There are at least 3 other crystal and metaphysical shops in about a 20 mile radius of Oak Grove, but for the combination of large selection, variety of products, and helpful, service-oriented staff (the owners are usually there working right along side the other staff to answer any questions). Like many small businesses they generally don't open until 11 AM. CONCLUSION: If you are looking for crystals to use in healing or just for aesthetics (because they look pretty) I highly recommend a visit to Mystery Gallery. The owners and staff are highly knowledgeable and will work with you one-on-one to ensure you get the right crystals/stones for your needs. Also a great place for hippy, animal totem, indigenous, angel, and even some alien-themed clothing. If you are looking for witchy stuff or angel stuff, they have that too including incense, sage, Santeria candles, tarot & oracles cards, runes, etc. Go check them out! They are also very helpful and will help you find any kind of rock you're trying to find whether it's for spiritual reasons, scientific or just fun. This place is almost like a hidden gem, even though it's right there on McLoughlin! I don't know how many times I drove by (100s?) before even noticing it and thinking, "What IS that place?! I want to go find out!" It was closed the first time I planned on going, but since then I've been twice, and even brought 2 friends with me both times, and we all LOVED it! They offer a HUGE variety of gemstones - both in type and in size, as well as all kinds of jewelry, incense, books, and a decent amount of expected kitsch. The prices are very reasonable, too! The people who work there are helpful, and when I asked about stone for a certain purpose, the woman helping me lit up and answered my question quickly, saying she used these stones for that very purpose and they were helpful for her and she pointed me to several different sizes of the particular stone around the store. Wow. This is one of the few places I can write about where my expectations were high to begin with, and superseded. After moving into a new apartment, I knew I needed some crystals to really bring the space together. The Mystery Gallery's reviews beamed with accolades, and rightly so. An easy drive down tree-lined McLaughlin Avenue, Mystery Gallery stands among Oak Grove's finest strip malls. Parking was simple, and I was immediately greeted by the woman at the register. She was very kind, and we happened to have moved from the same town. She also introduced me to her son, who assisted me in picking out some crystals. The store is packed with nick nacks and tchotchkes, health supplements, home goods, clothing, rocks, and crystals. I took my time, and didn't feel rushed in the slightest. The selection was insane. I haven't been to any other crystal shops in the area, but I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it would be to start a crystal collection without going broke. As I was purchasing my items, the gentleman informed me of how easy getting to the Mystery Factory is via the MAX, which is so convenient. I will definitely be back for more items for my home. Save your time and money with crystal shops closer to the city center, and head to Mystery Center for all your crystal needs. read more

A funky little parking place for a funky little store. Upon entry, the air carries the scent of sage and meditation temples. To me it's a calming bit of Zen. This is a little store crammed so many things, it's takes a while if you're in an indecisive mood. When I am on the hunt to find a gift that's whimsical yet inexpensive, here is where I land. The best way to describe this place is New Age meets Naturalist meets Fantasy. For the friend who collects Amy Brown Fairies, there is huge collection of tiles and figurines. There are well crafted jewelry boxes scattered like little gemstones everywhere. After being distracted by the amazingly detailed dragon statues, I wander over to the little collection of frog figurines for the Aunt who likes the unique. They have collectibles that cover broad range of Spiritual beliefs from Christianity to Pagan. In the center of the store is the display of crystals. I found an Amythest bracelet at about half the price I would in other stores. Of course, it was meant for a friend so I had to buy two. If you are looking for something different in a special occasion card, check out the selection. Toward the back of the store, (the difficult part is getting past the jewlery section, at least for me) there is a solid selction of books on many subjects and nicely made pottery from local artists. The ower's are great people and always have a kind word. I appreciate the extended holiday hours. Someday, I might actually remember to check in before I get too disctracted by all the trinkets. I first visited this store at its old location and was quite enthralled from the getgo. Since their move to the current location I have visited numerous times. The place is quite big and they have a really good selection of specimens both raw and polished. They even have specimens that you would need to tumble or use a lap machine on. There are some specimens that aren't run of the mill either. Today when we went the man there was extremely helpful and even went out of his way to explain some info that I wasnt fully versed on. I.e. baked citrine. He also showed us some black amethyst that I fell in love with. I picked out a few stones I don't normally buy either. Overall this place is great and I will return over and over for rock supplies. I think next time I might get a book or two. read more

Mystery Gallery is by far my favorite store to visit. I've been coming here since I was 15 years old, and every single time I stop in I leave with at least a small trinket and some incense. The prices on all products (especially the stones though) are unbeatable, and the employees are far more knowledgeable than any other store like this that I've ever visited. Kathy is the sweetest woman alive, and greets you every time you enter as if you're family, which makes the experience exponentially better. I've spent upwards of $2,500 dollars here in the last couple of years, and I have no plans to stop. My fiancée and I purchase all of our soaps, incense, stones, a good portion of our clothes, jewelry, and miscellaneous decor here and always feel great walking out with our purchases. To compare the price difference you'll find at this store, let me give you an example. I came in a few months ago and purchased an absolutely breathtaking amethyst Cathedral that stands about a foot tall for $225 dollars. Recently I went to The Gold Door on Hawthorne and saw a Cathedral that was not nearly as pristine selling for 3x that price. You just can't beat the prices you'll find at Mystery Gallery, and that's because there is no middle man. Everything in the store is sourced directly from the miners/makers, and you reap the cost benefits. This place is amazing! I was having a particularly challenging day, and I decided to take a little me time and finally check out this eccentric looking store, so close to my home. It's a bit dated but like a comfy sweater that you can never let go of, so kind of perfect. I spent at least an hour going through all the magnificent rocks and nobody batted an eye as I held the rocks to determine if they were the "right" ones or not. I loved all the little trinkets and witchy things and will need to go back to spend more time checking it all out. What really stood out to me in the store, was the overall feeling of kindness in the air. I tend to be a bit guarded and definitely avoid interaction with other shop goers but I found myself getting into conversations with others and just wanting to hangout with the fellow shoppers.
