Stocked Rainbow Trout...the trickiest fish around.
    John A.

Please note this is not a gun/rifle review as Myrtle Grove is also a nice place for advanced and beginner fishermen. I found Myrtle Grove through the DNR trout stock schedule. It's a nice 40 minute drive that I don't mind taking...I've been roughly four times and quite often I run into a few locals each occasion. Ample parking and a short walk to the fishing area...the pond is stocked maybe 4 times per year and with the amount of fish stocked you'd think it was a gold mine...well that's not always the case hence I keep coming back hoping to strike gold....is it possible...you bet....I've caught my 5 limit catch on 2 occasions and have been skunked just once. I like those odds...there's some sweet spots around the pond but you have to use the clues to find them.....with the Lilly pads are cut down the amount of debris is very low. There are rumors that say there are crappie, bass, bluegill, and trout available. Great place to fish with kids since it's a short walk from the car to the pond. Only negative is there isn't a bathroom I've located besides the woods lol. I've seen some bikers explore the area too which is also pretty nice. Even when it's a few people the place feels tranquil...but the gun firing could alarm some but it doesn't bother me as I come to fish and to fish I will go pretty much anywhere. There is a canoe launch and only electric motors are allowed so it doesn't seem to bother the fish. Bring your license as DNR is frequent at this location. It is quite the dirt road to the pond but I saw a hemi charger do it and that's rear wheel drive. There's isn't a lot of trash cans so please be respectful and clean up after yourself...it's fisherman code to properly dispose of your materials. Until next time myrtle grove

Super cheap as far as gun ranges go. $5 per person range few and you can stay as long as you want (as long as there aren't other people waiting). Range is entirely outdoors, so plan to dress accordingly with the weather. Some things to know: you must bring ALL of your own gear. That includes guns, ammo, ear/eye protection, targets, clothespins, etc. There's no office or rental area. This is definitely a range frequented by experiences gun enthusiasts (and the vast majority are male. When I went my group were the only females there. Doesn't bother me, but if you're the type of person who feels uncomfortable in that situation you might want to choose a more mainstream range). Respect the rules of the range and know what you're doing and it'll be a great experience. Don't expect anyone to hold your hand or guide you, though (unless they're in your group, then that's for you all to discuss amongst yourselves)

Best public outdoor range in Maryland by far! And it's pretty cheap too, daily permits are $5 per person and seasonal permits are $20. You can stay as long as you want (so long as they don't have a line, if so, proper etiquette is an hour). The only down side is there's no place to buy targets, rent guns, eye/ear protection or buy ammo, so you better pack everything you need!

The best 100-yard outdoor range. Maryland did something right on guns for once. :)

Nice outdoor range. No one looking over your shoulder. Would love to have them move to Prince George's County. :)

As an avid clay target shooter, finding a place to go (besides my gun club) was important, since my club doesn't have a Sporting Clays facility. A few people told me about Bull Run, and I visited for the first time back in October. I was impressed with the facilities. The county government runs the spot, and it is nice and clean! Pricing is fair. If you don't have a gun, you can rent one for an additional fee. If you need shells or bring shells that violate the rules of the range, there are boxes of shells you can buy on the premises. The one drawback I personally had thag doesn't directly affect me is if you bring someone who's never shot before, they will be required to do a mandatory safety course. The course isn't terrible, and my friend who has to do the safety course said it was very insightful. But if you don't have to do the course, but a friend does, you're gonna be waiting a hot minute before you guys can shoot together. Nevertheless, as someone certified as both a shotgun firearms instructor and an RSO, I value their commitment to ensuring everyone at Bull Run is safe.

A huge shoutout to Brittany (Manager), who went above and beyond to help me identify exactly what I needed for my weapon. Her knowledge, patience, and ability to clearly explain my options made the process easy and comfortable. She also walked me through the differences between paying per visit, monthly membership, and the year-long membership. Because of her professionalism and guidance, I signed up for the year -- and I'm glad I did! I also want to thank Joe, who made a quick fix on my setup and had me good to go in minutes. His skill and friendly attitude truly stood out. This wasn't my first five-star visit either. I was here last Friday and received the same level of excellent service. I'm sorry I didn't catch the names of the two gentlemen who helped me then, but they were just as professional and supportive. Sharpshooters has earned my trust, my business, and my recommendation. If you're looking for a top-notch indoor range with a knowledgeable staff and great customer service, this is the place to go!
