We spent a significant amount of time with two of the caregivers, and it felt like they were there as much for our family, as they were for my mom. We can't thank them enough for being there for our family!

I hired Home Care Assistance in Myrtle Beach to provide care-giving for a friend of mine who has…read morebreast cancer and is undergoing chemo treatments. She's experiencing severe fatigue, nausea, pain, and weakness. I found Home Care Assistance in an internet search, looked at the services they provide, and read reviews posted on their webpage. What I wanted for my friend was having nutritious meals cooked and put into the fridge and freezer for her to eat when she felt able to eat and also housecleaning. Her husband is disabled and can't walk well or stand up for any length of time so they're both unable to do these things for themselves at this time. I live in a different city and state so I can't take care of them myself. The Home Care Assistance representative I met offered far more than cooking and cleaning. I was told that special recipes catered to the needs of chemo patients would be provided for my friend, from a nutritionist. My friend would be able to choose from these recipes and they would be prepared for her. Not only would the house be kept clean, but they also offered giving rides to appointments, helping her with medications, etc. It just sounded perfect to me. I hired them to come 4 days per week for 4 hours at each visit. We agreed that we would figure out whether or not the amount of time per visit needed to be adjusted, as we went along. This is what happened - the caregiver would prepare a breakfast of eggs for my friend if she felt like eating while the caregiver was there. No recipes from the nutritionist or otherwise were ever shown to my friend and nothing was ever cooked for her, no meals that she could eat for lunch or dinner. The house-cleaning left much to be desired, as I discovered when I came to visit her recently. I'm left wondering what the caregiver did during all of that time. I paid for these services for 9-10 weeks before discovering what was going on because my friend is so weak and sick that she's in no position to complain about anything and I wasn't there. While the representatives made nice gestures like dropping by to say "how are you?" while my friend was having chemo, bringing her a cake on her birthday, and sending me emails, these things are not important to me or to my friend. What was important didn't happen. The management's communications with me were focused on what they called "challenges" "difficulties" and "going above and beyond" for my friend. It was either a conscious effort designed to make me feel like they were doing me a favor by allowing my friend to be a client or else their caregiver was focused on complaining about her job. The two caregivers my friend had during these 5 weeks both made it clear that they had issues with their bosses and one of them quit after being dressed down by the manager in front of my friend. I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1, only because this is a fairly new branch/location of this national company and I don't think they know what they're doing yet. Perhaps they'll figure some things out as they go along. The reviews you'll see on their Myrtle Beach branch website are not coming solely (or perhaps, at all) from clients in Myrtle Beach. For instance, Dr. Noam Chomsky is a professor at M.I.T. and they've posted a review from him on their webpage. I imagine that this company does provide great services in other locations, in larger cities. This is the first Yelp review I've ever posted. I joined Yelp so that I could post this review, not because I'm angry, but because someone else may benefit from it. It's a long review and if you're still reading, it's probably because hiring a caregiver for a loved one is one of the most important decisions we'll ever make. I'm very sad that my friend hasn't been well-cared for during this time period, but the good news is that it was easy to find a replacement for this company and we now have a caregiver who cooks great food, cleans the house, is cheerful and friendly, and easily does all of this in 2 hours per visit. She's very nice to my friend and uplifts her. Good luck with your search and I hope that your loved one receives quality care.

My husband and I decided to move from Maryland to South Carolina to live closer to family. We had been living in a senior living facility in Baltimore and wanted to find a similar, all inclusive, rental community near Charleston. My 95 year old mother was moving with us, so we needed to find a community that we all agreed upon. We looked at several Senior Living facilities before deciding on Daniel Pointe. We were first impressed by the location of Daniel Pointe. Exiting the busy highway onto Daniel Island was like driving into paradise! The beautiful tree lined roads, walking trails and abundant flowers immediately caught our attention. The entrance to Daniel Pointe was gorgeous, with a stone waterfall, emptying into a koi pond. The facility appeared clean, well maintained and nicely decorated. We were immediately welcomed by the concierge, who introduced us to Amy, the Senior Living Consultant. Amy invited us to the Dining Room, where we enjoyed a delicious meal, while she provided us with information and answered all our questions Following lunch, we toured the community. The main floor is the primary location for most activities, including card games such as Bridge, Canasta, Rummikub, Bingo, etc. There is a large fitness center, game rooms, pharmacy, and a hair salon. There is a large theater where they offer musical entertainment, lectures, movies and non-denominational church services. Adjacent to the Dining Room, is a lounge that offers 24/7 self-serve coffee, hot chocolate, juice, and soft serve ice cream. The Lounge is also the site of Happy Hours, Trivia, games and other social activities. During our visit, the Activities Director was busy with a "meet and greet" social for new and current residents. We spoke with several residents, who all had positive words to say about Daniel Pointe. We toured the second and third floors, where we visited a lending library, art room, billiards room and a chapel. We then proceeded to the apartments. The apartments were spacious, well designed, and equipped with full kitchens, ample cabinet and drawer space, ceiling fans, and full-sized washer and dryers. One of the residents graciously invited us into her apartment, where we were able to visualize our furniture placement. We have now lived at Daniel Pointe for two years. I can't say enough nice things about this community. The staff goes above and beyond to make the residents feel loved, safe, comfortable and at home. They show genuine concern for the residents and for each other. The staff is always friendly and it is obvious that they enjoy working here. When there is a problem, the staff works to correct it immediately. The managers, Gloria and Bob, live in the building and are always available. The facility is managed very well and it shows. Daniel Pointe is the next best thing to living with family!

I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and how well it was maintained. I was given a tour of the property and the grounds were very well kept. I saw leisurely activities the residents could take part in, as well as spaces for family members to come and celebrate with them. Afterwards, I ate at one of their cafe's and really enjoyed the lunch. Everywhere I went, the staff was so friendly. It had the feel of being home.
