Lovely Victorian park tucked away in Camberwell and full of locals! I used to live next door to this park and would visit almost every day, and it was lovely to see so many of the same faces visiting too. The park has a few walking trails, an amazing cafe, a Victorian bandstand (with summer weddings!), tennis court, outdoor nursery and play area for children, a dog park and much more. It's busy throughout the day, full of people of all ages and lots of cute dogs! I recommend the Little Cat Cafe inside the park for nice sandwiches and drinks and friendly staff. read more

Myatt's Firleds Park is a nice park, they run the park by a handful of staff and many volunteers. But I do not recommend volunteering there if you have mental and/or physical disabilities. I have trauma, have raised many issues of health and safety within the greenhouse and kitchen area, which they have fixed now, but as some staff discriminate and don't keep their own policies, they try to get of me. Other volunteers with physical health issues and mental health problems are beind discriminated against. Often they said things like "If you are triggered / have food allergy / can't be on time (due to walking disability) then you should come". I raised a grievance which was held by a new staff who worked at HR in another company, but as I have no rights as a volunteer, they hardly listened in the hearing and threw so many chaotic questions at me to throw me off. If you want to work there as paid staff, you will be fine, but NOT as a volunteer. If the admins of this site don't believe me, I have written evidence. The park itself is lovely, staff are "safe" and protected by law, but volunteers with health issues have not been treated well, but they now changing t as I raised issues in writing and they get rid of me to claim the credit for all the changes. read more

This park is a lovely little retreat. It was opened to the public in 1889 - before that, farmer Joseph Myatt used to grow his vegetables here. Mostly cabbage. It is very small, but charming, with plenty of flower beds and a cool bandstand. There is an enclosed ball games area, playing areas for children, and free tennis courts (call 0845 130 8998 to book for busy times, or e-mail lmb-bookings@fusion-lifestyle.com ). Okay, the tennis courts are not very well kept and a bit shit, but so are my tennis skills, so it worked out well for me. I used to go running here when I lived in the neighbourhood, but ultimately it's a bit small for that - it's not even half a mile around, and it gets boring running round and round. It's better suited for sitting around in the sun and drinking beer. read more

Completely agree with the writer who says this isn't great for running on the bright side, it's been great for getting me to the stage where I'm all I'm too stamina-filled for this park, yo etc. I've so enjoyed watching the park change during my first year in Camberwell; rich orange hues in Autumn, packed with snowmen in winter, obscenely blossomed and peonied in spring and vibrant in summer. I love the variety of (well-behaved) dogs who come here, and there is always so much to do, whether it's eating in the Brixton People's Kitchen as I did yesterday, listening to music at the bandstand, or just having a nice amble. Visit the lovely volunteer-run Little Cat Café too, that's a given. There's a very good playground for children which my mother and grandma horrifyingly dragged me into so they could see it. You have to be accompanying a child to go into the park, but here I feel they rather eked out that point. Zipwires, pirate ships, lovely soft ground and watery things to run through in the summer. Gorgeous. Oh, and sport which isn't my thing at all, but the basketball court and football pitch are always busy, and you can turn up and play (two hours max) on the tennis courts. Walking through Myatt's Fields Park always gives me a lift it's so well cared for and that really rubs off on the people who visit. read more

This park is a hidden gem. I used to go jogging around it every morning, as it was approximately 1km around the perimiter giving you a good gauge on how far you'd gone. It's surrounded by pleasant townhouses and features a picnic area, childrens play area, bandstand, tennis courts and distinctive flower beds. The park keepers who look after it seem to go to great lengths to do so and take great pride in their work which is evident from the park around them. The park isn't open 24 hours and the gates are locked at night. read more
