You can only get in here with a member - and most people are either married into or born into membership at Hurlingham because the wait is around 15 years - but luckily members can bring a bunch of people at a time. The grounds are gorgeous and with a perfect weather weekend you can spend hours wandering around and taking in the beautiful scenery. If you decide to opt for a membership, by the time your name is at the top of the list 15 or so years down the track, you may just be about nearing the right age to fit in with the clientele here. Yes, I'm talking OAPs. This club is a million miles away from the media crowd you find in most well known members club, this really is a place for the old-school English gentleman in his suit - which gives it a special vibe. Oh and don't forget your crisp whites on the tennis courts, no other gear allowed here!

You feel like you've stepped into some alternate universe where everyone is friendly and nice. There's a great playground for children, an outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi i think, tennis courts, croquet lawns etc. There are the usual rules regarding wearing only white. The restaurant is also quite yummy though I wouldn't say it's mind-blowing. The BBQ in the summer is delicious though! Obviously the down-sides are that it's ridiculously expensive to become a member and the waiting list is close to almost a century.

I once tracked a game with GPS and ran 5k within one session. They're reasonably priced - I've bought two £50 packages, each of which covers 10 games to be used anytime - and switch between North, South, and City; once a month is an epic North vs South playoff. Before you think this is like BMF but with "childish" games, come check out a session. Everyone enjoys themselves all the time. (Compare the smiling faces of Rabblers to the scowls of any other fitness group.) Charlotte & Rosemary, who run the sessions, are encouraging and playful themselves and never want anyone to have a bad time; there are no sore losers in Rabble! It's just the right amount of competitive for those who can't dedicate so much time and energy to playing an amateur sport, and while you'll be missed if you don't show up, the team won't lose because you're not there as teams are semi-randomly assigned at the start of each session. The question remains: do you run faster when you're chasing or being chased?? Either way, I've definitely improved my fitness over the past year with this gang and had a blast to boot. All sessions end with a trip to the pub for drinks (weeknights) or lunch (weekends). It's a great crowd!

Rabble makes me sad that I don't live in London right now…read more Rabble is absolutely great, the team are fantastic, and it's just so easy to meet people and enjoy exercise. There are a lot of throwbacks to your time on the playground, and it actually is super fun- when I first went it wasn't when I was converted to gym-bunniness either. It's outdoors, so it's as fresh as you can get for London, and gosh does it make you competitive! I don't know if it's because it's team games where you're against others, or because you refuse to be out of breath and lose at a game in your twenties that you won so much in first school, but it works! Make sure you take enough water, especially if it's hot.

The rooms were "cosy" so plan on spending more time in the common spaces or nearby in town. Breakfast was varied although some colleagues wanted more. What're you gonna do? The other meals were apparently good, as I talked to others who enjoyed dinner immensely. The proximity to town is nice for the perfect-length pre/post-dinner walks, and Thames Path being just behind the hotel ok allows for runs or strolls as far as you want to go. A little farther north or south will put you in two of Greater London's best parks. If you want to stay on-grounds to raise your heart rate, the exercise facility is one people pay high monthly rates to join. The pool is perfect and spacious, and you'll have all manner of what you'd expect to workout otherwise. I'm sure the grounds would be lovely in summer months, but you'll still have space to spread out indoors. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we'd enjoy our rumored return next year if it materializes.

The tasting took place in half of the main clubhouse, under a canopy of mature grape vines bearing fruit! I imagine this would be a beautiful venue for weddings or special events. This restaurant and bar area has glass down both sides overlooking each of the polo fields. Amazing wine was paired with a polo theme, hence the Polo Club setting, before a barbeque put on by Gaucho restaurants to showcase Argentinian food. What a great afternoon! As I chowed down on sublime steak and salads my fellow guests and I watched polo prowess unfurl before us. The venue isn't easy to find as there's not much public transport after Richmond, but it's well worth the trouble to get there. Would love to go back on a sunny Saturday next summer and lounge about like I should be there all the time!

The sports' club on the grounds of the National Physical Laboratories in Teddington (for that's…read morewhat NPL stands for) isn't just for sports. It's also a live music venue, and a real ale establishment besides. If you don't know where it is, you might struggle to find it, especially with the extensive works currently taking place on the NPL campus (which is large). It's right at the back - if you're walking in, you'll walk a good half mile from the entrance to the campus and the door of the club (at the moment, anyway). There is a small car park in front of the club. Once you're there, though, especially if you're there for a gig, you'll be glad you made the effort. There are several ales available, and as you might expect from a sports club, the prices are very reasonable. Food is normally available, but often not on party or gig nights. There is a function room and a gig room, complete with stage. They do charge for their gigs, but not a fortune (I've seen the Strawbs and friends there). Service is efficient and quick, and the ale is kept well. The staff are friendly, and the décor is far nicer (and cleaner) than you often find in sports' clubs - this is partly because the roof is raked, not flat, so the room has a much roomier feel. There is a pool room as well (though this is often used a green room for performers on gig nights). The loos are clean and large. I like coming here for gigs - and it's local to me, and I can soak up the genius coming from the NPL campus.

The trainers are professionals and they build a whole program that starts with warm-up exercises and stretching. Then we group out in pairs and start a little sparing, friendly of course. Then we finish with a cardio blast and the whole train is 90 minutes long. I suggest everybody to try this sport and this club is the best to start.

Bushy Park is my local, so I know it well. In the warmer months I grab my bike and tool around the…read morepath that links around it. Listening to my i-pod, passing deer grazing, watching people whose activities range from the idle lying in the grass, to the Kenyans running team who live near by and train here for marathons; you can't get much better then this. As parks go, it is big, but doesn't seem overwhelming. I can cycle around it in just over an hour. One of my favourite things to do is visit the almost secret woodland gardens within the park, which are towards the Hampton entrance. The Willow Plantation and Waterhouse Woodland gardens are particularly lovely, with little ponds and streams. Note that you can't bring dogs into these gardens. The rest of the park is a fantastic place for dogs though. It is also my dog's favourite park by the way. Do remember to keep them away from the deer - the autumn months are when the stags start fighting, and you really don't want you or your dog to be walking near them. There are plenty of sports sections within the park as well. There are two cricket grounds, on either side of the park, and a couple of areas that are designated for footie or rugby. There is a great kids section as well, this is where the only toilets in the park are. I wish there were more here!
