I loved that we all had our own cottages and in the mornings we would gather at one and have breakfast and coffee together, just catching up. There was so much to do as well. The kids had a blast in the pool and some went fishing on the dock. We played games and chatted for hours. The cottages were well stocked and comfortable. I rented the 2 bedroom and it had 2 ac units to keep the place cooled down. I only had 2 gripes during this stay: 1. The shower head in the restroom. I'm not saying that it needs to be a rainfall shower head but a regular shower head set up in the ceiling isn't working. They need to just move it where a regular shower head goes, on the wall. 2. The bug bites. I mean, I get it, it's right on the water but no amount of bug spray worked. No home remedies worked. You just had to take it. I walked out of there looking like I have chicken pox but I had a great time! Other than that, everything was amazing! Tami and Lynn were great and any questions we had they were both ready to help. I will definitely come back but it won't be in the summer, I have learned my lesson lol.

The lots are spacious, beautifully landscaped, the utilities accommodate whatever your driving or pulling providing both 30 amp and 50 amp service. The full hookups include plenty of fresh water with great water pressure and clean well maintained sewer connections with no foul odors that ensures your outdoor experience is worry free. The site I chose was paved with a expansive paver patio, level and extremely clean. My experience started with the online reservation, the website works and was extremely simple and provides accurate information, you won't be wondering if what you just booked is truly what you think it is. I love the 11:00 AM checkin, this mean there's plenty of time left after setting up your site to start enjoying the area or to just kick back with your favorite cocktail and plenty of time for firing up the grill. It was great arriving here on a weekday, after parking the big rig along side the office to check in I finally met Edie who had been my contact from the start - she's a gem and a very big part of why this place is the only place I'd stay when visiting the area - there were zero issues! There's a swimming pool, horse shoe pit probably more, but honestly I had my own agenda and this short five day four night stay was more about relaxing at the RV and exploring the area in around Cortez and of course Anna Maria Island. Big rig parking is the furthest point from the road on the back row so we had absolutely no road noise and our neighbors were friendly and quite - I couldn't of asked for anything more and hope to return here in the future for an extended stay...

Not worth it if you are just hooking up, and are not utilizing the "farm activities"

We love and…read moreenjoy camping, and this was our first camping experience in the state of Florida after moving to the state the previous year. Let's begin with the reservation and securing your actual camp site. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended. Like most other public (federal, state, or county) campgrounds, having a reservation is arguably the best way to secure your camp site. I believe I reserved the site about 6 months ahead of time. Fort De Soto is fairly competitive when it comes to site selection - so if you're looking for a waterfront site, make sure you give yourself ample time to reserve your site based on your camping trip date. We've been to Fort De Soto before, visiting the beaches and what not, so we know that it's a great location. We didn't really know what to expect when it comes to the campground itself as the reservation site doesn't really provide extensive images that help you with the site selection. We find that using Google Maps help to a certain degree, although the foliage and tree canopies tend to obscure any sort of overhead recon. On the day of our trip, we traveled from Lutz at the time. The journey was fairly easy and without much trouble or traffic. You have to officially enter the park first before getting to the campgrounds (requires you cross at least one bridge). The entrance to the campgrounds is not too far from park entrance. What's neat about the Fort De Soto Campground is that it's sort of its own mini-peninsula off the main road leading to the rest of the park. Depending on which part of the land you're on, you essentially have your own "private" bay. The check-in was relatively smooth and fast. Like other campgrounds, there were a list of rules and guidelines for your stay; general rule of thumb is just not be an asshat and you'll be fine. During the time we were there, there were no ground campfires allowed - all fires needed to be contained in an above ground grill (using the one on the site, or one that you bring). Not sure if this was a year round policy, or during the burn-ban that impacted both Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. We stayed on Site 061 after thoroughly reviewing the available sites as best we could. We selected this site, even though it was not waterfront, due to it's relative vicinity to the water, less going through some mangroves. Overall, the site was pretty clean, save for the lingering smell of urine. We also had the privilege of staying next to a Camp Host, who was super quiet and did not really bother us in any way. We were able to backup our Chevy Silverado into the site, and throw up our tent and other camping furniture with ease. We found that we had a great access point to the water. There was a hiking path of sorts behind our site, but it's a clear shot to the mangroves from the site. The mangroves had an opening that allowed us to walk into the shallow bay. We took advantage of this, and did some light fishing from here which was awesome. When it came to pests, we didn't really have an issue with them. From this site, you can easily walk to the hard-stand restrooms and showers. The rest of the campers were friendly and kept to themselves, which made this camp trip super relaxing and enjoyable as it should be. Overall, a great campground if you are looking for a bit of a unique camping experience in the Tampa Bay region. I would highly recommend this site to any camper interested!

Very well thought out…read more What I camped here for one night with friends. Environment The campsite was fairly large, we were able to fit 2 cars in comfortably. There is a table and plenty of space to set-up tents. There is an outlet and water access. There are lots facing water, but some places can be spotty as there are mangroves. There are also various spots where you can launch kayak/paddleboards which makes it convenient. The bathroom and shower area was very clean and big. The showers I thought was a little inconvenient. (Maybe I am not to this). There are no hooks to hang my towel.. or even clothes.. There is also a dayroom nearby where you can rest if it is too hot in the campsites. In terms of accessibility - everything was easily accessible. I like that there is a bike path that you can ride from the campsite to the North beach. Niceness of all I haven't had a bad encounter, everyone was nice.

Maintenence is perfect and the environment is great and so much fun. There's a mux of all kinds of people from mostly all up and down the East coast and Eastern Canada. Most are 55 plus, with some younger here on vacation. The area is the most convenient we've ever lived in. Healthcare is excellent. There's tons to do, shopping is great and diverse. We also have excellent restaurants and the beaches are stunning. We first came down from SC expecting to stay fir six months. Then, we liked the cove so much, we've stayed for six years. BTW, we the river runs through the park and we have a private island just for the residents. Manatees, dolphins, and alligators are in the river. Many of tbe sites are waterfront, and some have boat ramps. The pricing of the longterm ties is very affordable as are many of the homes for sale. Plus, if you are a six and mixer, the monthly fee is even less. Overall, the community is very well maintained. We have a beautiful pool, hot tub, gym. and game room. Many times, off season, the pool area is empty, so we feel like it belongs just us. There are often regularly planned super fun events, and entertainments. In season there is a local farm that comes every week to sells us farm fresh vegetables. There are also clubs you can join, and hobby groups too like woodworking, and stained glass with on-site workshop facilities. We have lots of covered dish parties, and other food events like BBQ's put on by the staff. And regular offsite events you can sign up for. Just sign up for anything you want to in the office and watch the events calendar posted outside the office. We have a huge events room with a fully equipped kitchen, and there are excessive classes., water volleyball games, and others you can just show up for whenever you want. You simply cannot be bored or lonely if you don't want to be.
