After our home in Madeira Beach flooded, we moved to Lakewood Ranch and were desperate to find a good groomer for our two mini poodles. Our first stop was a large place on Hwy 70, and it was heartbreaking -- it felt like a mill, and our boys came home looking rough and stressed. By pure luck, we rented a house across the street from Mel, and a neighbor told us she was a groomer. That was such a blessing. From the very first appointment, I could see the difference. Even though our pups had been poorly groomed before, Mel worked so gently and skillfully with them. She explained that it might take a few visits to get them looking like true poodles again, but she still made them look and feel so much better right away. What stands out the most is not just her talent, but her kindness and genuine love for animals. My boys absolutely adore her -- they run to her happily, which says it all. After a very pleasant experience back in January with our Cockalier and 2 Morkies, today was an absolute horror show!!! Just as in January we dropped them off at noon and told them to be extra mindful with one of our Morkies as she is in frail health, on medications and seizures.... in January all 3 dogs were ready for pu between 4:30 and 5pm and looked beautiful! Today after not hearing from them by 5, I called them and was told that while all 3 had been bathed, none of them had been groomed yet and it would take another 3 hours!!!! That would have meant 8 hours without being walked, given food or water not to mention that our one Morkie would be needing her medications!!! I was told that all 3 had been bathed but needed to be groomed and she'd do our special Morkie next ... she texted us shortly after 6:00 that we could come to pick her up and I asked about the other 2, she replied 8:00. We headed over as soon as we could to discover another man being given his dog and another woman also waiting for hers... she too was told that her dog wouldn't be ready until 8pm!! The technician came to the door (btw: despite the now relaxed Covid rules- this place will NOT allow you inside under any circumstances!!!) she told me that she would get our dog... but then the boss came out to tell us that our dog had just had a small seizure but that the other Morkie was almost done now (as if that makes up for the seizure that the other one had) and I was FURIOUS!!! I yelled at her "I told you about her condition!". Then my husband demanded that she give us all 3 dogs immediately and they quickly ran back inside locking us out once again and returned with our 2 morkies and Cockalier who (STILL needs to be groomed btw) and I told her that we will NEVER return and would be sharing our experience on Yelp and social media! I would love to see this business get examined by an animal welfare agency as I'm extremely concerned about what goes on behind that pretty facade of cute little sofas and pillows at the entrance which is the ONLY THING visible to the paying pet owner! read more

After several other grooming "experiences" in the Lakewood Ranch area, I was delighted with MPPS! I actually recognized my dog at pickup! He was perfectly trimmed for his breed, clean and shiny fur, and very pampered. My instructions were followed, and my doodle looks like a doodle again! Legs perfect. Ears perfect. I am a disabled veteran with a medical service dog named: Tread. Every dog grooming location that I have visited has told me I have to leave him and come back later. I specifically ask if I can stay while they work on him and they all tell me no EXCEPT My Pampered Pet Spa. It is a fantastic place to visit with couches and friendly groomers that will let you work with them or they can do it all by themselves. Tread is a 2 year old German Shepard, gentle, very friendly, medical service dog and I cannot leave him at anyplace by himself. SO, I am so grateful for this business. AND my groomer was Mary. There are three of them there: Janice, Mary, and Dayanna. Mary was the young woman who worked on Tread. She is incredible. I am so happy that I found this business and highly recommend it to anyone and exspecially those who do not want to leave their dog and come back later. read more

Mel is a Miracle worker. After too much time in between visits and a vacation, during which our dog had not been brushed, Mel patiently got rid of the mats and cut his hair length down. Some groomers would have shaved him. But he emerged, soft, clean and fluffy. I also love that the dogs are not left in a kennel there. read more

Disastrous! Mel ripped my dogs whole toenail out and didn't say a word. Should've known something was up when she called and said it was taking her longer and to not pick them up until later...she must've been waiting for the bleeding to stop. I carried my dogs out so didn't notice one of them was limping until we got home. We took her to the vet in the am and they said she ripped the whole nail out!!! I typically don't leave reviews, but I'm so upset about this that I want to warn others....It's been a couple months since then and my dog is still limping so we are heading back to the vet today to vet to find out why this is an ongoing issue. My dog is very tiny (less than 4lbs) so now we are suspicious that she did more damage than originally thought. Should of followed my gut not to go because each time we've ever had Mel groom our dogs she calls just before with some excuse as to why she can't be there until later...and this particular day she did it again! She doesn't take pride in her business anymore than she cares about the pets she is grooming! read more
