3.5*, rounded up because as a new business, I think they should be highlighted.
I snuck into My Olive, dropped by during BuskerFest, with a crowd of older White people. Usually, I don't like being the only one in a specialty store because I don't want that much attention on me.
The concept of My Olive is very similar to a store I visited in Victoria, BC called, Olive The Senses at Public Market on The Hudson, a rather small, but quaint indoor market. However, at Olive The Senses, I enjoyed my experience more because it was a larger space, spread over 2 different levels, and the staff, although they engaged me more, they weren't that "in my face", so I was able to browse/taste for a longer period.
My Olive is a smaller store, in Port Credit, and although the staff was friendly, I felt a bit monitored at times. They are really nice people and I did feel as though they were truly passionate about their product!
From what I remembered, I think some samples you can dispense directly from the cask, while some samples were already poured into a dispensing bottle with a spout. So at times, I forgot, and got the samples from the cask.
Prices were inline with pricing at other olive oil tasting places, approx. $14/bottle. What I liked about the concept is that you're actually able to taste what you're buying, so there's no surprises! read more
