It's a relatively new building, with good lighting and a great parking lot. It's not on any kind of hard corner. The shop is clean and well lit inside. I found lots and lots of viable halloween costume options here. The staff had even gone through and sorted the costumes based on genres. I got out with a HUGE cat head that fits over your head like a mascot's. Score! They have all kinds of strange stuff in here, and bargains abound. I wonder whose houses some of these candles and coffee mugs come from. But I'm happy to scrounge through them and find the cool ones!

The people who work there are friendly and knowledgeable. The prices tend to be reasonable, but occasionally I find some items to believe to be slightly overpriced. Remember prices are marked at time of the store's appraisal of the item before being placed on the floor, so it's price may not reflect current market value trends. Just keep that in mind when shopping here. All in all the over all prices are usually fair or a steal if you know your stuff and have an eye for what you're looking for.

With Mother's Day a whopping THREE weeks away-- I figured I'd both support my local woman-owned small biz and get a gift or two to make a mom in my life feel seen, loved and appreciated. This review is for an online shopping experience at Revival. Their site is easy to use. I love the tabs...from new to sale items. Gifts for under $25 tab, too. They've got a little bit of something for everyone-- but compared to the store, selection is a bit limited. With the lovely lady in my life being 70+ and growing more fearful by the day of this pandemic-- I opted for the Cold & Flu Blend of essential oils. Practical, yet thoughtful. (Annnnnd... I would describe Revival as a Vintage Boutique that buys and resells thrifted and new items + home goods (candles, room sprays, incense) It's been about five years since my return and oh how things have changed! I'll start with the positive first: they now sell sex toys and lube (Maude brand) which is super cool. The candles they sell are so unique and well crafted. What a creative idea to use old fish tins for the base! The not so good: in summary everything's extremely overpriced. Revival use to be more of a thrift store (and yes they still buy and resell thrifted items) but now a large selection of their items are new and well over $100. Mind you this is not a luxury store. Now, I will say Revival has always carried new items and more "high quality pieces" however, today I saw a "preloved" coach bag for $300+ which was insane to me. The selection of clothing is more neutral and basic tones like cream, nude, brown and white. I miss the color and variety that use to be! Today I purchased some groovy sunglasses, vintage Levi Jeans, and some other new goodies. I still love this place and will check it out again the next time I'm in town!

I'm a big fan of antiques and refurbished furniture, so I tend to make the trip down toward Kalona a few times a year when the weather gets nice. When this spot popped up (last year, I think) I was super excited because it's right across the street from Kalona Brewing Company which makes it easy to fit into a typical trip. Even though a lot of the shops in town are a little more traditional, The Shop stands out because they have a nice mix of old and new items, and a lot of their furniture has been refinished or repainted to fit in with a more modern decor without the elbow grease a take-home project requires. I've purchased several things here - from signage, to dried flowers to small furniture - and I've been pleased with each purchase.
