This tutoring center is terrible! The staff and director (Lorna) are very rude and pushy. I don't know why Lorna has to always talk about her personal life I've heard this very various people. We came in to get information on tutoring services and she goes on about her kids and herself. I am very unhappy with all this service. I will never be setting foot in this Studio ever again. My daughter needed math help going into junior high. She was coming from a small private school to a large public school and the curriculum was completely different. I started her with MLS at the end of summer before school began to give her a head start. She hesitated because she didn't want to feel like the "stupid kid" who needed extra help. My son Josiah just started in August with tutoring only, then we enrolled immediately for enrichment classes and let me tell you, he absolutely loves it. Homeschooling went from a nightmare to a joy. I signed my daughter up for a program and found out they also provide assistance on the weekends at Ben Franklin. Elementary School. This establishment and their staff are AMAZING, friendly and kind. Even though their main focus is tutoring it doesn't feel the same way as other tutoring facilities; there is a more positive energy, a will to succeed. They work off white boards which really helped my daughter in "seeing" the work giving her a visual understanding of the material, but also added an element of fun rather than feeling like another school day. My daughter really enjoys her tutor. My experience with the front office staff and the director is always the sense that they are there to help in placing each kid with the right tutor that fits each child's unique needs. I am so happy that we found this service it has done so much to help my daughter achieve her goals and gain self esteem in knowing she CAN achieve her goals. My learning studio really cares about my child and other children's struggles. They use techniques I have never heard of before that gives each child a new way to learn in different ways and settings. I would not go anywhere else and would recommend this facility to my family and friends because of the steady gain and progress I've seen in my daughter. I will comment here as one of the tutors who worked at My Learning Studio. I have a teaching credential and 32 years of experience. If I weren't moving out of state, I would continue to work there. When I first began tutoring there, I was impressed by the organization of the business. Everything was computerized. Students were given assessments as needed.Tutors were required to write detailed reports of what was done each session with a student. Parents had immediate access to these reports and could talk with the tutor when they asked to. I was also impressed by the quality of teaching taking place. Tutors knew their subject matter well and were communicating it well. Kids were learning. There were a variety of tools provided for tutors and students: computers with internet access, tablets, and learning games of all kinds. I enjoyed working there and was proud to be a part of the center. Briefly (or not so briefly), I want to comment on C.M.'s critical post, since I was the tutor in question. C.M. apparently didn't believe what she was told about my work hours changing, but that is exactly what happened. I had to stop working Mondays. It was just that simple. I worked with C.M.'s for son for 3-4 weeks. Yes, he was energetic! But he wasn't that difficult to handle. In the sessions I had with him, we always completed the assigned homework exactly as specified on the paper. This was written up in the reports C.M. received so if there was a problem it could have been addressed. C.M's son came to his session each week with one or two pages of work, usually a Math page that involved copying numbers, and a coloring page that included tracing numbers. This was usually completed within the first ten minutes. After that, I was on my own! C.M. told me more than once, 'just keep him busy.' As my session reports indicate, I kept him busy and taught him. Over the course of my sessions I employed the following teaching methods: the use of tactile number tiles for number identification, the use of cartoon flash cards for both number and letter recognition, the use of two and three piece puzzles for matching pictures to words, the use of playdough (fun, but when rolled back and forth to make thin cones, it helps develop co-ordination), a number of different 'connect the numbers' and 'connect the letters' to help with both his number/letter recognition and eye/hand co-ordination. C.M. commented about scribbles on the papers. C.M.'s son had difficulty coloring within the lines, and would often mix crayon colors together, which admittedly looked unpleasant sometimes. But the coloring got done. Also, most of his papers (the backs) had scribbles of endless circles because I had him drawing them continually, small to big/big to small to help him learn that important hand/eye co-ordination. I explained this repeatedly when I met with C.M. at the end of each session. I could go on, but I'll stop. One person's perceived bad experience should not keep others from checking out My Learning Studio for themselves. I recommend it. I would teach there again. I would send my daughter there, but she's 35 years old now and I can't tell her what to do. It's an excellent tutoring center that will almost certainly help your kids succeed at school. read more

Last week our SAT tutor (not with my learning studio) cancelled last minute. We had a group of kids about to take the SAT on Saturday and no tutor! The students all decided to do an extra day because they got so much out of their time with him. This place makes sure you are paying but not that your child is succeeding. My child has been going there for over a year and has made minimal progress.She is still below basic in reading. The Learning Studio told us she would be reading at grade level within 3 months. She has had 3 DIFFERENT tutors during this time. They do not use intervention practices or modifications to fit the child's needs. My child's progress showed nothing but frustration! After a couple of months of the child being frustrated, don't you think you should modify what you are doing with her? We pay $300 a month for her to go twice a week for 30 mins. By the time they have the child wash his or her hands and get situated with the tutor 10 minutes have past. So really you get about 20 minutes. I do not know why we allowed them to continue to take our money for this long! read more

My daughter has been tutored here twice. Once in fourth grade for reading. The second time was in eighth grade for algabra. The learning studio made a huge difference in her grades. F to A's both times. She loved going in to learn and brag as her grades improved. The confidence they instill is the biggest plus. She carried that with her into later years. I called My Learning Studio to verify pricing information and detail on the school teaching process. The information I did not get. Instead, Lorna, the owner, delivered the most condescending speech I've heard in my life; in relation to parenting and my educational readiness to help my children. She sounds like an extremely arrogant person that most likely did not realize that such lack of people skills will be perceived negatively. I don't see the benefit of making people feel ignorant and inadequate. My daughter's boyfriend has had a difficult journey through his teens and was extremely credit deficient and years away from HS graduation in what should have been his senior year. He made the decision to take the CHSPE and go to RCC rather than to continue with years of credit recovery. He did not pass the CHSPE math section, so I contacted Lorna at My Learning Studio for help. After listening to his story and special circumstances, Lorna kindly donated the first set of hours of tutoring. His tutor, Linda, worked tirelessly for many hours with him. She also assigned him homework in his CHSPE study manual, and reviewed all problems with him. She reviewed math standards for grades 7-10. It was a lot of work, but today he learned that he passed the CHSPE!!! We are ecstatic! He could not have done it without My Learning Studio! Much thanks to Lorna and Linda. Tried other tutoring centers and my kids were still struggling. I decided to try yet another tutoring center before I felt defeated. I took my kids to my learning studio The fees were great especially with what my kids ended up getting out of their sessions. I received session notes the day after tutoring. My kids were enrolled here for three months and attended twice a week. Needless to say their grades improved to A's and B's and not failing They enjoy school and ask when they can go back to tutoring because it's fun and they learned new ways to learn that their teachers in every classroom were unable to teach them. Every kid learns differently and the tutoring the girls received impacted their academics and how they applied what they learned from my learning studio. Thankful for such a great tutoring center that really focuses on the kids. SAVED MY LITTLE ONES GRADES! I have a 3rd grader who has been struggling since the start of school when I finally got her into tutoring. Originally I choose My Learning Studio because it's not too far from where I live, but after 2 sessions a week for about 2 weeks my daughter was improving on her class work and lessons in school. We have the same tutor 2 times a week, and the relationship and trust that my daughter and tutor have established is incredible. her tutor, Kassandra, has really formed and genuine, caring, real bond with my daughter. My daughter is tutored in math and reading, and is really applying every skill and tool learned with her tutor in her work. Test scores have skyrocketed! The feed back from all of her teachers is incredible! Saying the jump in percentage in just 3 months is out standing! ALL of the employees and owner are incredible people and well worth the cost of the sessions, because you get what you pay for.. and personally I think it's more than you pay for with the amount of support and welcomeness you get with My Learning Studio!! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. A month ago i signed my daughter up for tutoring here. At first I was a little worried about this place because the director Lorna was very rude and whispering to other staff when I first walked in to sign my kids up but we were so happy to have found a place that can help with reading and phonics so we didn't think anything of it! The office staff I think their names were Nelson and I'm not to sure the front desk ladies name but they were a big help! When we signed her up, they told us that they were a phonics tutoring center, for weeks we thought that's what they were doing. My daughters grades did not go up at all. I've talked to other parents while waiting for my daughter to be done tutoring we talked about their experience here and they said to me they hear the director cuss and they want to pull their kids out of tutoring and send them some place else. There are little kids who go here for tutoring why would you be cussing? A couple other parents have said their kids grades in school are dropping significantly. I was just getting their opinions on this tutoring center they weren't good opinions at all. This week I pulled my daughter out of tutoring, while my wife was there dropping her off I was on the phone with the director and she was being very rude and pushy with trying to me to stay when I told her I was not happy here and you guys lied to us, some of the office staff told my wife "what's going on is it the tutors fault" My wife thought the front desk staff was so helpful because she seems to care about others but thought Lorna was very rude. She noticed Lorna was taking this out on her staff and my daughters tutor. We paid $70 a week for this crap. We will not be recommending this place to anyone! read more

I have been taking my boys here for the last few years. We take breaks in between because this place really helps with improving their academics and it is not until a new core curriculum that poses a problem that we return. Sometimes my boys just want to go to find out what else they can learn and what they call "picking their brains". They always are excited after every session and both talk at the same time because they are so excited about what new things they learned. This place helps kids with learning disabilities and kids in gate. It truly amazes me how much my boys love learning. They love their tutors and look forward to seeing them again and again. Ok My son needed some help with math and I took him to Oxford tutoring and he did not like it at all. I made him stay there just to try it out. After a month he learned nothing and they were going over three years of past mathematics he already knew. I finally called it quits and looked for another place to help him in the math he is currently struggling with. I found the learning studio one day on my way home from work. I went in and asked a few questions. After that I was given all the answers to all my questions without even saying anything. These people really know what my son needed. My son just attended one if their summer camps, Pre-Engineering with LEGO. I gave it the whole 5 days, but for what I paid....I was very unhappy. The first day I couldn't believe after paying $180 my son would just be siting on hard tile (dirty mind you) flooring. He came home with almost black legs from sitting on the floor. They couldn't put tables and chairs in there for the kids?!? The person they had come in with Legos was about 30 minutes late, which they made up the time at the end.
