My baby enjoying one of the many fun toys at My Gym South Loop!
Leah P.

My Gym South Loop officially opened on June 13th so it is a brand new, beautiful and colorful facility. I took my 9 month old to three classes so far and we love it! The owner, Saira, is very nice and I appreciate how she makes a point to learn all the kids' names. My baby was able to experience circle time and play with 6+ babies for the first time. There are swings, balls, slides, and even a trampoline. I must mention that the teacher Bri is awesome as well and great with kids. I definitely recommend this new location!

For my little one, it's not that important but her 2 friends dropped out after begging week after week not to return. The instruction is great- there is just zero teacher - child relationship. My daughter works with about 5 staff weekly. None know her name and she doesn't know theirs. It's run like a factory and these kids rotate from station to station to learn skills. My daughter has learned a lot so we are fine with keeping her enrolled here. On another note, the birthday parties are fun but the staff are not at all helpful to the parents of the party during the food/ cake time in the lobby. Kind of an outga to see the 3 staff gossiping in the gym while the party parents are passing out food, supplies to 20 little ones. I have to add 2 stars My daughter really loves this place and the instruction there. It is her favorite activity of her week. They seem to have fixed my previous complaint with the classes and they now have 1 teacher assigned to her leveled group. When she said " mommy, said if our trip this summer gets canceled due to the coronavirus than I can go to Ik gymnastics camp for a whole week!" I knew this place deserved a higher rating. 5 stars IK. My daughter wouldn't give you anything less.

See my review on google with the email exchange. We received not about payment for classes, which I missed (and I admit to be scatterbrained) and this happened previously; so, I understand. They then sent an email saying that we needed to "pay or be banned", and I emailed back that I was confused as we have never been to their gym (so, how could we be banned). And then they decided to note when we last visited their website (2 weeks ago). I asked for clarification again - saying if we pay we are but if we don't we are banned or we were just banned. When my husband chimed in to ask if we could pay immediately, we received another baffling email.

After having climbed here for over a year, I still give it 4 stars and here's why:…read more 1) It's a great place to meet people who are also interested in climbing. I now have a really great climbing community, thanks to the people I've met at Hidden Peak. Now, I never worry about having a climbing partner or feeling unsure about my beta. I've met so many people through this gym that I now call my friends and climb with on a regular basis. 2) The boulder problems they set are great. THere's a good variety of juggy and overhanging problems, easy and intermediate circuits, difficult problems, as well as fun traverse-y problems. 3) The grades at this gym are really consistent with with I find outside. If I'm sending V3 problems and struggling on V4 problems inside Hidden Pean, I'm definitely finding the same outside. Other gyms struggle with grading, I find. 4) People here spot you on your boulder problem way more than others. Since everything is closer together, and people working problems are more likely to fall on you, people are much better here about spotting you, which I like. 5) For a bouldering gym, it's affordable. Prices are now at $10/day or $80 for a 10 pass. It's small, it might smell a bit (it's an old place), and they have to work on their mats, but this is a good facility to visit and check out the problems here. This is a bouldering gym only, so if you're looking for roped climbing in the city, go to First Ascent in Logan Square or Brooklyn Boulders in the West Loop.

After COVID the prices were unbelievably inflated and greed took over. As adults, a $20/class fee…read more(pre-covid) is now $35/class with a monthly fee, first time sign up fee and yearly $100 for the same exact class. My kids told me that the instructors do wipe down the equipment after each student's activities and always everyone is required to wear a mask. This facility does offer some sort of streaming app called SpotTV, which is a bit difficult to get the app to register and properly work all the time but once everything is working properly, you are able to see your kids activities online. The coaches/staff members are very good with the kids and keep them engaged from beginning to end. The gym is clean and organized. It's one big gym, so they have different age groups and skill level groups all practicing at the same time, but they keep things moving so no class collides with another. Prices for the classes are pretty typical in cost and the classes, especially weekends do fill up very quickly. When registration opens it's wise to sign up that day, because putting it off could possibly leave you with a "class filled." If there is one thing they need to address and rectify it's the horrid smell of feet that reeks from the gymnasium when the door is opened. I mean I get this is a gymnastics gym and all of the 50 plus people in one area at the same time are shoe less, BUT that does not mean it should smell as it does! I mean they seriously need to invest in some commercial deodorizers or something! I love that it's a mixture of structured and unstructured play, which is the perfect fit for our kiddo. It's been amazing to see what skills he has picked up from class. All of the coaches we've had have been wonderful (shoutout to Anna, Daniel, and Vanessa). Every week they have a theme and focus on different skills and give you ideas of what to do at home to continue the theme. The staff is super friendly and helpful. If we can't make it in or need to schedule a makeup class, it's easy to do via text or phone call.

Even without that nice perk, it was still a great place to take our son. They cover a large range of ages, and his first class was when he was little under a year and a half and couldn't quite walk yet. At that young, it's mostly teaching them how to listen to instructions, play on the equipment and tumble around. He was a little too young to directly socialize with the other kids but still had a blast. For younger ones parents are expected to be in the class with their child so be sure to keep that in mind. They often have "Parents Night Out" events where kids can be dropped off for an evening, but your boy was too young for those. Probably the best thing about Little Gym is how flexible they are with make up classes. Kids get sick, vacations come up, etc. and the make up system is really simple - basically as long as you let them know you're missing a class before it starts, you get a make up class in the bank that you can use. Since there are multiple instances of a class running in a week you just need to find a day that works for you and can use up those classes whenever. The staff here is great and the classes are always well structured. We'll definitely miss taking our little one but hopefully this can get others to take a trial class here.

GYMNASTICS BIRTHDAY PARTY My daughter had her 6th birthday…read moreparty here in 2007. It was great! Easy registration. Affordable. Received a phone call from the organizer the week before. They were very helpful and pleasant. They provide you with a big room to store coats, etc. and have food and cake. We had about 20 kids - almost an even number of boys and girls - and they split them up into two groups. The instructors were fun, organized, and somehow kept the kids in two lines doing all the gymnastics the whole time. The gymnastics equipment is clean. The huge gym is safe and cool - padded floors, lots of equipment, and a big foam-filled pit for the kids to jump into! All the kids had a lot of fun and my daughter loved it!

This is my 4 yr old daughter's second session here and she is so excited to attend each week!…read more The classes start up with warm ups together and break into smaller groups. Then the children cycle through the equipment and do different things each class. They don't get bored, and wait time in line is minimal since the groupings are fairly small. Instructors take their time with each student to ensure that they are moving correctly. Sometimes they focus on general moves like handstands or cartwheels. They have a huge foam pit and trampolines that students use every class. The 4-6 year old class is an hour long and parents wait outside in the lobby, which has glass windows into the gym. A few critiques: 1. "Roll call" after warm up seems a little lengthy. 2. I've seen many missed opportunities for instructors to assist students doing moves that some students can do with ease and others can't. (Like a flip over a short bar.) I know they can't help everyone all the time but that's a reason those kids are there! Overall I really love the gym and my daughter does as well. She's learned how to do a back bend and somersault in a fairly short time! The classes are well priced and the instructors seem very positive and knowledgeable. (I've seen one demonstrate moves on various pieces of equipment! Pretty impressive!) We are glad to have found this gymnaclass!
