The other teen cat ended up having some serious bone issues and sadly, had to be put down. I still have the 4 cats (plus one older one) and they all get along great and are wonderful kitties. I'm not a big reviewer, but I was reading all the negative reviews and decided I needed to add what I thought. Colony Cats, in my opinion, does a great service to the area. They help get kitties off the streets and prevent additional unwanted cats by fixing all the kitties. They try to find all the kitties good homes by having a vet make sure the kitty is healthy and if not, doing what they can to help them and they vet potential cat owners. All cats are microchipped too in case the cats gets lost (or abandoned). All the people there are volunteers and give their time so that they kitties can hopefully find good homes or in a few instances, live out their lives in a safe environment. Someone complained about the litter needing changing. They don't change the litter when people are there - at least I have never seen them so they do it when the shelter is closed. They do a good job in my estimation. My kids (and yes, me) still want to go there semi-regularly just to see the kitties. 5 is my max at home so we just get to look and play with the kitties. Their facebook page is updated regularly with kitties available for adoption. Sometimes, they ask for monetary help with kitties that have a lot of medical expenses. So, in conclusion, I think Colony Cats is great and I'm very thankful for all the volunteers who really want to help these kitties. As someone who has several kitties adopted from there, I am grateful. I have some really good ones.

We waited 3 days for response back. Which once again it's not that bad. Buttttt then we get approved to adopt the cat. Every other adoption place I go through lets me take the cat home from the pet store and I sign some papers and pay and leave. Now we have to meet up with someone to finalize it from this company. Just too many steps. Almost week and a half just to get a cat.

The volunteers were all knowledgeable and we were able to complete an application and pay $50 down on a 3 month old kitten named Heston. I went back the next day with the balance adoption fee and a carrier. The average $100 fee covers vaccinations, testing, rabies tag, and microchip. They give you a folder of information, and a small bag of catfood. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely come here again.

I brought my letter of intent to adopt from my landlord, and my cat carrier *just in case* I went into the big room of all the loving furballs and met everyone to see their personalities and how they play, and there was a staff member explaining how their facility works and who they partner with and went out of their way to introduce a cat to me and explain their story (which was super neat, btw!!) and 30 minutes later I walked out of there with my new furbaby, after the *easiest* adoption process ever, as long as you are an honest and caring animal owner and know that animals are a lifetime pet (their lifetime and yours!) you will love this place. My wife and I visited Colony Cats, Cat Welfare, and Cozy Cat Cottage to name a few. With all of the wonderful potential fur kids we saw we didn't see the one that we just connected with. We decided to go to Pets Without Parents as it was a rescue that we had not been to before and it was just down Indianola from our house. We had no expectations when we went to PWP other than we knew that they were a smaller rescue that was located in an older house. When we walked in we were pleasantly greeted by a volunteer and showed where the hand sanitizer (so that we could clean our hands between kitties). The individual who greeted us was figuratively knee deep in cleaning dog cages but, she was friendly and responsive when we had questions. There, in the center cage on the bottom was this beautiful kitten! Both of our hearts melted when we saw him, as he was nearly the spitting image of the cat we had just lost. The individual working the shelter that day let us know that those two kittens were meant to be picked up today by the person that was adopting them. Our hearts collectively dropped as then we knew that of the cats at PWP, these were the ones that we shouldn't get attached. We petted all the cats that we could, well save the brand new box of feral kittens! I am sure that in no time they'll be adoptable little fluffs! Despite not seeing a cat/kitten we connected to we decided to put in an application. The application was very similar to others you might see when adoption a new animals. Asked for references, job information, current pet information, veterinary contact, as well as things the adopter's view on declawing. Much to my surprise I received a call the very next day from the PWP shelter manager! I thought that the call may have been to clarify the application we had submitted but, it was not. The adoption on the beautiful kitten (that was meant to go home the day before) had fallen through. They wanted to know if we would like to come meet the little we had seen the day before. We quickly (and gleefully) went back to PWP to officially meet & pet this kitten. Cat carrier in tow, of course, just in case! If you adopt through PWP you get a wellness check up card for use at the vet where the animal has received their vaccines & spay/neuter. We took this offer so that we could get our new little friend checked out before we established him at our vet. This was great as he had a cold (that they were treating him for) and we were able to proceed to the next step in treatment, an antibiotic shot to help knock out the remainder of the kitty cold. The adoption contract at PWP is more heavily worded than others might be. There is a provision in it where if the contract is broken that PWP can seek money from the adopter who has broken the contract. It seems to me that this is included to bring home the gravity that is the responsibility of adopting a furkid. Oh, and I can verify that the folks at PWP do check references, which is great since they are working to place pets in well suited homes. P.S. Pets Without Parents is loud. With the pupsters looking for a new home in the adjacent room, any kitten/cat adopted from these guys will likely be a-okay with loud sounds and barking dogs. Train tracks also run right next door to the rescue. P.P.S. Our new kitten is fitting in purrfectly at home.

I got both of my dogs from Columbus Humane, and we had a good experience. The staff are friendly…read moreand want to help you find your perfect pet. I've also seen horses and pigs on their roster. The shelter seems clean and it's relatively quiet for a kennel full of dogs. I can't speak to cat adoptions, but dogs come vetted, spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, and with a certificate for a follow up visit at 1 of maybe 25 local vet clinics. If you take your pet to the vet within 7 days of adoption (which is recommended) and they have health issues that you aren't prepared to deal with, the shelter will take the pet back. Our male had some pre-arthritis symptoms that the shelter hadn't diagnosed, but we were fine assuming that risk. We ended up staying with the vet we selected and they have been a great fit for my sometimes crotchety dog. She has a very thick file and they take a lot of care to make sure she is comfortable and has a positive experience, so I really appreciated this service from the shelter. You're expected to bring in your existing pets to meet any new additions. This was helpful, but a 30 minute meet and greet is not really sufficient time to make sure your animals get along well long term, but I think they're working with what they have. I'm only pointing this out to guide in making a good decision, not as a harsh criticism of a community-based service. I do believe this is an open access shelter with euthanasia services. I don't have experience with this, but the shelter also offers emergency boarding services for people leaving a bad domestic situation. I think this is an amazing program and would support Columbus Humane for this alone, not considering that I found my perfect pet here.

CHA is a limited intake shelter that accepts strays and owner release animals. They also work with…read moreother shelter agencies by bringing pets from their facility to CHA. Animals are accepted based on space and their adoption criteria. They have a 95% adoption rate as well. The staff and volunteers are amazing. From adoption counselors to the foster program lead to the hundreds of volunteers that donate their time this organization is one of the few I support financially and with my time. We also foster cats and kittens with CHA and have been very impressed with their approach. In my opinion CHA is one of the best, if not the best, animal shelter in Central Ohio. Consider a visit to the shelter if you are looking for the 1st or next pet to welcome to your family.

They are one of the cleanest shelter around. all dogs and cats look very happy and healthy.

When I would pick her up, was asleep in car before Main St. She learned alot there I learned alot from them about her diet, is a Cavalier and they explained extra care with long ears. Doug is a ttainer, I am sure she is well behaved because of attention she received there. Hoping to find dog care but know can't compare to Luvpup. I have scheduled weekend for Betsy this fall while I come back to visit my friends, she can see hers too.
