I popped in here the other week after having a lovely meal out with my boyfriend. I'd planned to…read morecome here as I'd already decided that I fancied something sweet like a milkshake, and after all it's a cheaper option than dessert. When we arrived there was already a queue; a testament to the popularity of this cute little milkshake bar. At first I felt a little amused, since I was the only twenty-something in the place (discluding the manager this even including staff, it seemed) but soon after me came another few folk my age seemingly also after a sweet calcium fix. I've a serious temptation to quote some Anthony Burgess, but since another yelper has already made reference in a different review, it would feel a bit cheap to knock out the same joke. I will confirm that there was no synthmesc involved! (Tee hee!) So, after being my usual indecisive self I panicked and went for a Milky Bar milkshake. Sadly, it didn't quite hit the spot. I think it was mostly due to having chosen a slightly bland chocolate bar to put into my shake, had I gone for werthers originals (which is my usual at Shaky Jakes) I think I'd have been much more satisfied. Nevertheless, the options are endless so I'd advise considering your penchant before you enter as choosing can really hold things up! The staff were all lovely though, and the system seems particularly well organised as within minutes my shake was ready. In this instance I wish I could 3.5 stars, but hey - that's what a review update is for! And if it means going back and drinking more delicious milkshake goodness, I'm down with that. Certainly recommended for a cheeky sugar fix, and I really think you'd struggle not to find what you fancy with all the options available. Win!

The idea is, the customer comes in and chooses from over 175 different ingredients and then the staff blend it with milk and ice cream to make it into a customised milkshake. 175 is a big number when pondering the amount of ingredients you could choose to make a milkshake. They have various chocolate bars, fruits, cakes, biscuits, cereals. When I say various, I mean loads, their sweets section includes things like fruit polos, wham bars, tic tacs and toffee popcorn. And yes, there is always room for one odd-ball suggestion. Marmite. Urgh. The only time I can ever imagine anyone actually consuming a Marmite milkshake is if a silly teenage boy gives in to a dare. In which case it would probably be followed by the kid in question being promptly sick all over the floor. Nice! Marmite and sick aside, I think I could probably be tempted by one of their fresh strawberry shakes, or maybe marshmallow. They really have hit a good idea though, with the high footfall of people that cross The Merrion Centre every day they are set to make a packet. So, considering their ridiculously huge amount of ingredients and the obvious amount of effort they have put in, I reckon they deserve 4 *s.

Pick a chocolate bar, any chocolate bar... And Shakey Jakes…read morewill whip it up into a milkshake for you. Even the most educated chocolate bar-connoisseur would be hard pushed to find a bar not on Jakes' menu. They're all there, old or new, and they're all used, with a mixture of milk, ice cream, biscuits, syrup and real fruit, to create sumptuous milkshakes. Galaxy. Bueno. Wispa. Yorkie. Even Battenburg. The menu is ridiculously extensive, and for a large milkshake of any variety, you will pay the reasonable sum of around £3. New businesses akin to Jakes are springing up all over the place, as custom-made milkshakes become more and more popular. I have tried a couple of other places along the same lines as Jakes, but because of the effort and creativty of Jakes (along with the classy 1950s retro decor), nowhere comes close.

In fact I thought that independent businesses were on the way out...thankfully Shaky Jakes and its 200+ flavours has come along recently to prove me wrong. They can be seen out often in a cow costume with promo offers in the local area. The customer service is great and the staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful in this 1950's style old school milkshake bar. Making milkshakes out of popular chocolate bars like Milkybars, Aeron, Twix or KitKat. They use the products to make the milkshakes, so it isn't like the boring mars bar milk you find in pertol station refridgeorators. Cereal flavours are popular too with Frosties, Coco pops or even Weetabix available. Prefer your shake or smoothie to be fruity? Then try pineapple, banana or peach amongst others. Cakes and desserts are on the menu too. I would reccommend coming here for dessert. Skip dessert elsewhere and get a dessert flavour shake like apple pie, chocolate brownie or carrot cake? Biscuits like jaffa cakes or custard creams are part of the 200+ flavours too. Or maybe that sweet tooth is pining for sweets like black jacks, or cola bottles.Anyone for a mikshake flavoured with refeshers or parma violets? Shaky Jakes is great for groups or parties, awesome as a treat for well-behaved children. I would have been good for mum if promised a trip here when I was a child. Its main trade is of course take-away, and they have some lovely outdoor seating. Superbly unlike other cafes and milkshake outlets I have encountered before they do delivery on orders and can be booked for outside catering. If you want to befriend them on myspace or see their menu there, then follow this link: http://www.myspace.com/shakyjakesshakes They have managed to build up over 1,000 fans on facebook in the first six months of business and their fan page can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Leeds-United-Kingdom/Shaky-Jakes/19631040220 So if your in Headingley, beacuase maybe you live there or you are visiting a student friend or family member, or you are heading turn North Lane to the Rugby or cricket ground to watch the Tykes, Rhinos or Yorkshire, I would ot be the only person to suggest you drop into shakyjakes to try a milkshake like you have never had before.

I Love Cheesecake!…read more I have indulged in the pleasure of eating many cheesecakes from a variety of vendors, and I can say, hand on heart that, the Manchester Cheesecake Company produces the best cheesecakes! I had the pleasure of trying a (mini) cheesecake from here when he had a stall at the University of Manchester market, which occurred every Tuesday during the Semester. Although, the Manchester Cheesecake Company, was only there fortnightly, Pietro, the man behind the company, quickly became a favourite vendor for the whole of my office. The first cheesecake I tried was the hazelnut chocolate one, mainly because I love any hazelnut and chocolate combo! It was a nice creamy rich chocolate with a Ferrero Rocher on top. How amazing does that sound! Although, it was a little sweet for me, it was still delicious! The next time the cheesecake man came to visit, I thought I would go for a plain cheesecake with a fruity topping, and these cheesecakes were even better! Amazing! I bought the blueberry cheesecake, which contained blueberry within the cheesecake itself! I think this is my favourite! The cheesecake is relatively standard, but the taste is unbelievable! The other cheesecake I sampled (because I bought it for my girlfriend, of course!), was the strawberry cheesecake. This had a nice strawberry mousse in the middle with half a strawberry resting on top. Here is a tip: Let the cheesecake sit in the fridge for a day (if you can!) to let the mousse settle, and then it would be absolutely delicious! The market is no longer on, but my office now has cheesecake delivered every two weeks. Yes the company delivers! The Manchester Cheesecake Company also frequents Levenshulme Market and Moss Side Market. Check out their Facebook and Twitter for more details! If you don't believe how good the cheesecake is, then try it for yourselves. Next time, I will sample the lemon cheesecake and rumour has it, Pietro even does a cookie dough cheesecake! Whatever I try next, I know, it will be immense! Find this blog on mcrphil.blogspot.co.uk

I called on Wednesday and asked if they could prepare a cake for that Friday and they were very nice about it. All I had to do was email the details of what I wanted to their main email and they sent me a confirmation. One of the best parts is that they actually delivered the cake to my house! I'm a student and I don't have a car so this was a huge help! When the cheesecake arrived it looked gorgeous with raspberry swirls and fresh raspberries on top. Everyone loved the cake and it tasted delightful! I would definitely order another cake from them in the future. It also was great that their prices are extremely affordable. So many cake shops in Manchester charge 30+ pounds for a cake and this cake was only 18 pounds. A very reasonable price for the quality. Order from here, you will not regret it!

Two years on and I've finally been back to properly investigate the offerings at iCandy. And…read morewowsers, I'm so glad I did! If you're wondering what the fuss is about, let me explain - the concept is one that I don't think I've seen anywhere else in Leeds. It's a pure dessert parlour: A place to go indulge in delicious desserts after dinner, late at night, or any time in the day if you'd rather do sugar than savoury. Are there any other pure dessert parlours in Leeds? I'm not sure. That's not important though, when you can come here. So, a bunch of us Yelp crew piled in after the Pho evening for something sweet. The counter beholds a plethora of delicious sweet treats, from cheesecakes, to meringue roulades, to pies. The choice is pretty overwhelming if you're as indecisive as I am, but you'll be pleased to know I managed to make a choice - the peanut butter stack. The lovely lady at the counter advised me that it was better warm, with ice cream, and so that's what I did. If you're a coconut fan, you've got to try the ice cream - it was delicious. As for the stack, I absolutely loved it. It has cake, toffee peanut butter topping, crunch, and every mouthful was amazing. If you're in the business of enjoying a seriously, disgracefully sugary sweet treat, this is your Huckleberry. The Creme Brulée Coffee was fantastic too, topped with Crunchy, and a double shot of espresso. Considering it was a double shot, it didn't taste too strong, and was a bit like a sweet white chocolate based mocha. Fully yum, although probably not one for coffee aficionados, as it's more about the sweetness than proper good coffee. There's a room upstairs for groups to come and enjoy together, or a few tables downstairs if you want a quick bite with a mate. The ice cream selection is great, with a few weird and wonderful flavours, as well as smoothies, milkshakes, sundaes and more. And they seem to be open until around 10pm, so night time revellers can enjoy a non-booze based drink. Love it! Take a shopping break and indulge, it's worth it.

I ordered a piece of honeycomb cheesecake which looked devine and I couldn't wait to get home to taste it! To my disappointment the honeycomb pieces were soggy and not remotely like the crunchy stuff im a lover off. The cheesecake in general tasted like butter, it was so disappointingly flavourless and left a horrible thick greasy coating in your mouth. After a forkfull or two I decided the best place for it was the bin. I was encouraged to give icandy another go yesterday when I had a chance to actually eat in on a very lazy Sunday. Their menu is HUGE! After gazing over all the treats available I decided to go for a sundae (i love them) and icandy had a make your own sundae option where you choose 2 ice creams, two toppings and a sauce. After deciding what I wanted I went to order it and was told they didnt have the toppings I wanted in stock. I was quite suprised as I didn't choose anything ridiculous just maltesers and marshmallows which was part of pretty much every other sundae on their menu! After being told they only have skittles and whispa as a topping I went for whispa but there wasnt really much choice as skittles sundae doesnt sound overly palatable. My coffee arrived first and and I went to grab some sugar from the pots on the table to find the pot full of lots of empty wrappers, old sugar and a few hair grips...So just your standard sugar bowl contents really. My sundae arrived with a tower of whipped cream on top and I don't mean your regular sundae amount I mean this sundae should actually be is called whipped cream sundae with a hint of ice cream. I have never seen so much whipped cream in my life and the ice cream didn't start until half way down the glass so there really wasn't really much sundae. The chocolate sauce wasnt really a sauce either it was more of a glass decoration as it had turned rock hard and welded itself to the sundae glass. I really think the large menu goes against this place, yes it is great to have variety but not if it all tastes terrible. I would really love to say something positive about this place as I like the overall idea of it but in all honesty the only good think in there is the exit.
