My Acting Studio's Foundation Level One class, taught by Charles Tintendo, Fall 2022 - it was exactly what I needed: Before taking My Acting Studio's Foundation Level One, I had taken a few foundation-level acting classes before this. One class for stanislavski method through city academy, one class through Cal State Long Beach's theater program, and one class for Voice Acting 101 through Closing Credits (highly recommend that last class for *voice acting* technique, but not necessarily becoming good at *acting*). My Acting Studio's foundation level class is the best one - by far. Charles cares, and he is competent. He cut straight to the heart of what was holding me back. Only 3 weeks into the class, and I was feeling a big difference in my auditions. Through Charles' direction and my supportive peers, I gained the confidence to get out of my own way, to be myself - on, and off the stage. This is coming from someone who already had acting experience. I had written, directed, and acted in short films, voice acted in audio dramas, and was fully comfortable performing on stage. I had the pleasure of taking the Comedy Class with Charles Sanchez at My Acting Studio 1. So much fun! Comedy, in my opinion, is a really challenging art form, and Charles has a good ear for comedy and is able to pull the funny right out of you. 2. From day one we were taught what it was like to stand up on stage. It's def a bit scary to be up there, and Charles was very supportive and kind. He created a safe environment to explore our joke topics, which are usually pretty close to the heart. I wasn't afraid to go up there and make a fool out of myself 3. After we chose our joke topics, Charles helped us trim the fat out of our sets so that each joke mended together seamlessly. 4. We got to do a live performance at the end and invite our friends and family, which was terrifying and really exciting. All that hard work paid off! Lots of value packed into this class & what is offered. Charles starts with foundation and small building blocks, then works them into daily routine as well as techniques taught for years by many NYC/Hollywood/Burbank acting schools, legendary industry coaches & private studios. There's a side to the class that is self-discovery, becoming calm and aware, as well as creative realization, but it's not so much what he's teaching vs how he teaches it. Charles as a teacher is very patient. I knew I'd found someone special that would nurture my growth as an actor and creative individual. No clock-watching and he takes the time to get it right vs "getting it over with" or rushing you. The final 4 sessions focused on on-camera technique and Charles has some serious game with regards to equipment, technical/production skills as well as directing -- ensuring that you can and do make choices which will affect how the audience receives your performance... plus you get to stay off the cutting room floor. The class was also an *extremely* safe environment, and we all felt comfortable sharing there -- being completely vulnerable. If you're sure about signing up, do it. This review is long overdue, and I admit that part of it is because I'm actually overwhelmed by all the good things I have to say about Charles and his studio-- I have to set aside some quiet time to write this out in a thoughtful way and try to not let it drag on. I found My Acting Studio (MAS) on Yelp. After putting my healthcare career on pause to stay at home for 14 months with my then 14 mo old daughter, my husband encouraged me to pursue other hobbies that'll be therapeutic for me and get me out of the house more; I remembered that I still had some interest in acting, which stemmed from having been in a few high school and middle school plays, and some random extra work when I was a teenager. MAS got great reviews, and it's close to home, so it was the perfect place for me to start, especially since I also didn't want to be too far from baby. So I signed up for my first foundations class in September 2018. He lets you audit the class for a fee to see if you like it, but I decided to just go all in, and I'm glad I did. First off, Charles was very responsive to me via email and text from the get-go, and he's proven to maintain that responsiveness and reliability all the time (sometimes I don't know how he makes downtime for himself)! On my first day of class, I text my husband right away, "omg this class is awesome! The instructor is very good!" Charles creates a very safe environment for you to be in so that you can be yourself without feeling judged or misjudged, and so that people with low self esteem like myself can feel like they can just open up, be silly, be angry, or be whatever emotion you want to be, and to just let it go without feeling embarrassed. One of his written house rules states: "Be cool. Be respectful to others, etc." and this sets such a healthy tone for the class. I have some delayed processing issues, which I never disclosed to Charles or anyone else, but because it's a safe space, I ended up not worrying about it too much. Charles is not only a great instructor who inspires you, positively encourages you, and gives you detailed constructive criticism, he also manages his business well--from the physical stage, lighting, sound, props and decor, to the cleanliness, getting your headshots done with quick turn around, and frequent email updates or text communications on what's going on at the studio--sometimes I truly wonder how he does it all! One time he even got hit with a bad cold and he somehow had the energy to keep going to teach the class and send us edited videos within 1 week! I will be forever grateful to Charles for his generosity and passion for each and every one of his students. If you have doubts, I encourage you to just do it--at the very least just try one class so you can see what I mean. TRUTH!! I could not speak more highly of Charles Tentindo or Charles Sanchez. I should have written my review way before now, But I am going to give an honest reason why I am writing it at the moment. There was one review that somebody gave on the 28th of July 2022 that could not be any further from the truth. I happened to attend this show that this person was speaking of. This specific "comic" exceeded their time by over 15 minutes, spoke about all the illegal drug substances they frequently do, and this person was also extremely high on something while performing. Myself and multiple audience members were becoming very uncomfortable. One true thing that this person said was that Charles Sanchez tried to cut the set on them. Had he not done that, my husband and I would've walked out. There was not much laughter from the audience only discomfort when this person was on stage. I have had multiple friends take Charles Sanchez comedy class and there is not one person that I had anything but positive things to say about this coach. Charles Tentindo is someone I have looked up to and admired for years. Through his acting school people have graduated to television, voiceover work, and also became professional actors in the industry. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Charles Sanchez about a year and a half ago. He is funny, very honest, and has a spirit of gold. I have never chosen to write a bad review on yelp. Even if I had a horrible experience at something. The reason being is I know in life everyone has a bad day now and then. It may be a restaurant where the food was horrible, but the chef may have been having an off day etc. The one thing I do is when I've had a great experience that supersedes the norm is I will give a good rating. I took the stand up class with Evan Cassidy a professional comic and teacher and at the end-we performed a 5 minute act written by me in front of an audience. I had barely done any acting since high school and I decided to take the foundation class. It was so great to get back into the game and work on cold reading as well as memorized scenes. The other students were a mix of amateurs and professionals and it was a very supportive environment. Charles is a great teacher too.
