The night of our comedy performance
    Nicole J.

I had the pleasure of taking the Comedy Class with Charles Sanchez at My Acting Studio 1. So much fun! Comedy, in my opinion, is a really challenging art form, and Charles has a good ear for comedy and is able to pull the funny right out of you. 2. From day one we were taught what it was like to stand up on stage. It's def a bit scary to be up there, and Charles was very supportive and kind. He created a safe environment to explore our joke topics, which are usually pretty close to the heart. I wasn't afraid to go up there and make a fool out of myself 3. After we chose our joke topics, Charles helped us trim the fat out of our sets so that each joke mended together seamlessly. 4. We got to do a live performance at the end and invite our friends and family, which was terrifying and really exciting. All that hard work paid off! I def recommend taking this class if you're looking to learn stand up comedy. Also, I did this class as a relationship building tool with my partner. It was fun to do it together. I feel comfortable with possibly doing an open mic soon I will def being taking the next comedy class the studio offers with Charles.

Last few sessions are all on-camera technique

Lots of value packed into this class & what is offered. Charles starts with foundation and small building blocks, then works them into daily routine as well as techniques taught for years by many NYC/Hollywood/Burbank acting schools, legendary industry coaches & private studios. There's a side to the class that is self-discovery, becoming calm and aware, as well as creative realization, but it's not so much what he's teaching vs how he teaches it. Charles as a teacher is very patient. I knew I'd found someone special that would nurture my growth as an actor and creative individual. No clock-watching and he takes the time to get it right vs "getting it over with" or rushing you. The final 4 sessions focused on on-camera technique and Charles has some serious game with regards to equipment, technical/production skills as well as directing -- ensuring that you can and do make choices which will affect how the audience receives your performance... plus you get to stay off the cutting room floor. The class was also an *extremely* safe environment, and we all felt comfortable sharing there -- being completely vulnerable. If you're sure about signing up, do it. I did. and I'm a different man because of it.

New pics all the time. Fun fun!

Thanks to Charles' casual email to all his students, I Miraculously got a part in an Immersive Play in Seal Beach. With no resume, but guts galore, I got the part in an Immersive play. What a blast. I'm learning more about this acting business, thanks to Charles' classes and the many courageous students that I get to participate with.

Do they do self taping for auditions?

    Yes with coaching

What's the Schedule for the foundation class? Thank you!

Ours just ended and it was Tues & Thurs 7pm-10pm; should be on his site with options for payment, more info. He was really helpful (and easy going) in walking me through questions I had. Hope this helps, also just reviewed it & added some photos.

We found that Summer Studios was in the area and had different class options. We went in to check it out and get more details. David was very friendly and helped answer our questions. A date night class sounded like the best way to try it out at a reasonable price to see if we enjoyed it before signing up for a full class. On the night, we got there and the dog Sokkit was there to welcome us in. David talked us through the process and then he demonstrated the process for us, including explaining the "why" behind the steps. With that sorted, we got to get our hands muddy (covered in slippery wet clay) to throw a pot. David was watching over us and helped us with the steps as we had first-timer issues and questions. The setting was a nice way to try out pottery, and is a fun activity on a date night. We had the chance to make 3 different pots each, and they were each quite different but not too bad for a first time. David told us that for these classes, he does the work to finish off the pots (drying, trimming, firing, and glazing) and then we can come back to pick up the finished pieces. I'm quite curious how they will look when finished. Overall, very enjoyable and fun. We're probably signing up for one of the 4 or 6 week classes soon.

I'm excited to see the final results in a few weeks after all the firing and glazing.

The instructors were knowledgeable about different realms of design, such as graphic, product, transportation design, and architecture, etc. Of course, on top of general art fundamentals. Class schedules and structures are flexible, which is great. However, you need to arm yourself with commitment and dedication to better your skill and complete your portfolio at the same time. There are so many places where the teachers end up doing everything for the students, but it would not be the case for Artbin. I highly recommend Artbin. The setup at this studio…read moreis that parents wait outside in the waiting room while the children go in with the teacher. There are cameras in the lesson rooms, but parents do not have access to them, only the business owner does. Occasionally, I would sit in with my children, but later I was asked to remain in the waiting room as the teacher felt the kids distracted each other. Recently, a very concerning incident occurred. My son told me that during his lesson, his teacher showed him an image to demonstrate "good posture." When he first described it to me, I wasn't sure what kind of picture it was, and I initially gave the teacher the benefit of the doubt. However, when I later asked Miss Lee (the owner) and the teacher to show me the same image, I was shocked to see what it was. The picture had no real connection to piano playing or posture and, in my opinion, was completely inappropriate in the given context, especially considering it was shown to my son alone in a room with his male teacher. To be clear, the photo itself was not offensive on its own. What made this troubling was the context and lack of relevance to piano instruction. I felt it crossed a boundary of professionalism. I brought this issue directly to both the owner and the teacher on Friday, August 29th, and was told that it would be reviewed with their board. I am sharing this so that other parents are fully informed about the environment and practices here. Every parent has the right to decide what they are comfortable with for their child's lessons, and for me, this situation raised serious concerns.

My son grew so confident thanks to Nick who encouraged him so much. As parents, you could most definitely sit-in on with your child during lessons. It's a choice you make as a parent to wait in the lobby is sit with your child. There are cameras in every classroom. It feels safe and comfortable environment. That has been my own personal experience here.
