Wow! Great statue with fabulous history so very glad I checked out this street! I came here thanks to the Düsseldorf History tour.
So the basic history is that back in the early 1900s, Mrs. Ey had a bakery near the Düsseldorf art school, and the starving artists would pay her in paintings of her portraits rather than money. She soon had so many paintings, she decide to close down her bakery and opened up an art gallery instead. Unfortunately WW2 happened and she lost her money and gallery, Basically she lost everything except her status as the most painted woman in Germany.
There's tons of artwork about her still being made today, so it's cool that Mrs Ey is still inspiring artists even now! Definitely come and check this sculpture out!
