Aside from the cheesy deliciousness, everything about our visit to Crumplehorn Inn was pleasant. The manager that sat down with us to tell us about the history of the building, the impressive vegetarian menu and just the general ambience of the place. We chose to eat here for two reasons: 1 - the menus are written outside on chalkboards near the road. That way you can see what's being served without going in to ask for a menu. This is very good for us because as vegetarians, we've had to leave restaurants before if they don't have veggie options. 2 - it was one of the few places open. Just a friendly tip--don't go on holiday in November. Everything is frickin' shut. A lesson we learned the hard way! Anyhow, the Crumplehorn had it's doors open and we were lucky to have gone in. This place was one of the highlights of our Cornwall holiday. A must if you're visiting Polperro or Looe.

Their special , and what they are renouned for, are their sizzling steak lunches ( circa £5.99 and available until 6.00pm ). It is absolutely first class - the sirloin steak is cooked on a cast iron platter, with fresh chips, tomatoes, peas and onions. You will be hard pushed to get a steak dinner anywhere in the UK, both at this price, and for deliciousness. They have a good choice of ales, I normally opt for Guinness or Bombardier Ale, with my sizzling steak. The landlord John is a no-nonsense, but very friendly chap, and his staff, are extremely friendly also, especially Bev. The smaller rooms have some charm but the larger area could be any plastic pub. I visited The Old Inn on a Thursday in May with a couple of friends after a long and tiring day. I had recommended it after a pleasant previous visit made better by Munich Hofbrau on tap. When we arrived in the pub at 10pm and ordered a round there wasn't anyone else in there. About 20 minutes later the manager turned the music off which struck us as a little odd. At 10.30pm we went to the bar to get another round before the bell rang for last orders. Our simple, "Same again please," was met with an abrupt, "We're shut," from the manager. We left. And went to the Rugglestone Inn down the road.

In the day it tends to be filled with people with no-where else to go. The beer is cheap, the wine cheaper still, and the food is actually pretty OK for the price. Due to the size of the place, the kitchen may as well be in a different county, so food is often a little less hot than expected, but generally the quality and portion sizes are OK. Overall, good food, low prices. family friendly.
