    Music Row Historical Marker
    Bruce K.

Music Row isn't the honkytonks of the Lower Broadway District. Music Row is this neighborhood where the "Nashville Sound" was recorded and where you'll find the historic RCA Studio B and the Country Music Hall of Fame and such. The big recording studios are located along this simple stretch of road. This marker points out the history. It reads the same on both sides, "The heart of Nashville's music business, Music Row began in 1955, when Owen Bradley opened the Quonset Hut, the first recording studio here. In 1957, Chet Atkins opened RCA's studio at the corner of 17th and Hawkins. Other studios, publishing houses, and record labels including Columbia, Epic, Decca, Warner Bros, Capitol, and Curb followed with offices here. Street names were changed in 1975 to Music Square East and West." The marker was erected in 2016 by The Historical Commission of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County and donated by the Mike Curb Family Foundation. Fun huge symbols

We walked through these couple of blocks, but unless you need to actually do business or do a recording, it's best to drive, scooter or take a tourist bus. I enjoyed reading the signs of all the famous, classic and new studios/companies. Never saw any music stars, but why would they hang out on a street anyways!

Located just southwest of downtown between midtown and broadway, The Gulch is an expansive, but equally quaint part of the city that is classic mixed use of residential and retail. Main reason you may find me in The Gulch is for food. There is a solid variety of eateries from local casual spots to more established dining, sandwich shops and even a few spots for dessert. While that's my reason, most tourists find their way to The Gulch for the famous wing mural next to Biscuit Love. Got to get them wings while in Nashville! Outside of the food and wings, there are lots of local and chain businesses and services in the area including self-care, medical offices and of course clothing boutiques. Additionally, Noble Park is in the middle of The Gulch. It's a really cool urban space that features a good green space, seating, music and a water wall. It is also host to markets and small events throughout the year. Parking is plentiful in The Gulch, buts its all paid. There are garages, lots and street parking. Overall, The Gulch is a cool area of the city that I don't find myself in too often, but when I do, I always enjoy it!

Yes, there were some fun Bourbon Street (NOLA) parallels and energy, and I thought that the overall Cajun culture was cooler there, and the music (that I like) better here. And hats off to the hardworking folks that help keep this place safe and clean. We arrived in Nashville mid-week and make it a point to hear our music mostly in the daytime. We thought things were a little quieter and laid back, particular in our music choices of Roberts Western World, Ole Red, and the 1st Floor of Chiefs. We also very much enjoyed the Mud Bug Stompers one evening at the Acme and then went off-Broadway one evening at Alley Taps and another time at a more distant Listening Room venue. Going into the weekend and starting on Thursday night, the crowds on the streets and some of the bars were "wall to wall" starting mid-morning. But in the early morning (as seen from Chief's rooftop bar), things seemed so calm and peaceful, like a calm before a storm.

We walked along Broadway twice -- once around 3pm, because we were in the area, and then later that night, around 10pm. I was surprised that it was way busier at 3pm than at 10pm, but it was a Sunday. I wouldn't go out of my way to walk along Broadway, but if in the area, it's fun to look at all the neon signs. They also have an Oktoberfest with lots of beer, polka, and kraut which always attracts a crowd. The neighborhood itself has exploded in the last few years so there are wonderful options for places to live there as well.
