Quality/Quantity - Museum on the water. Sadly when we got here, they were already closed for a private event. A wedding, should we crash...? So we decided to hang out around the museum. Got ice cream from the food truck in front of the museum. Hung out at the beach, etc. Walked the entire park. Other food and drink options, see pictures. Atmosphere - 57 acre park off of Lake Michigan. Beautiful views, see picture. Beautiful lawn to play, picnic, etc. Sculpture garden outside of museum. See picture. Beautiful fountains a short walk away. Water Taxi, etc. Service - N/A, self service as they were closed when we got here. A very nice green space where a lot of great attractions are located, including the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium. It also offers parking and a great view of the lake and the city skyline. We enjoyed a nice stroll around the area after our museum visit. read more

The Museum Campus is a large park, cultural, and entertainment hub in the city. Three of the city's most celebrated museums converge here. The Field Museum is the natural history museum and the oldest of the three. Adler Planetarium, the first planetarium in the United States, anchors the eastern end of the campus. Nestled between the two is Shedd Aquarium. There's also Soldier Field, where both the Bears and Chicago Fire play, and McCormick Place is the southernmost end of the vast park. You'll find Northerly Island here, where there's a large nature sanctuary and a music venue, and the city's lakefront trail weaves in and out. Before it was destroyed in the early 2000's, a small, single-runway airport was here as well. I love how the trail will take you from the Museum Campus to Grant Park by going underneath Lake Shore Drive. It's really a cool design and a nice way to connect some large tourist areas and make them more easily accessible since you can easily get there by taking the train or something and walking over instead of having to park and pay a ridiculous amount to park at one of the museums themselves. Watch for folks biking and running on the trail so you don't cause an accident, and make sure to take photos--the most beautiful views of the Chicago skyline are those from the Museum Campus, so you'll want to bring your friends and family, too. read more

Beautiful large area filled with green space and of course museums. It also has lots of photographic opportunities. Museum Campus is a great jumping off point to many attractions and parks. Fun things are here even without going to a museum as you can hang out and look around. The skyline view is one of these things. It might be hard figuring out where you go first with all these museums and attractions. Probably the best known museum in this area is the Field Museum. This is Chicago's natural history museum. Check out dinosaurs and other ancient creatures. There's also many artifacts and tools from ancient civilizations as well. Also you can find more creatures in the Shedd Aquarium. Space fans can get a good look in the Adler Planetarium. Also there's Soldier Field. It of course gets busy around here when there's a game. The best way to avoid this is to get here with public transportation. read more

The view of the skyline from this area is absolutely wonderful. It puts me in the best mood just to see how beautiful our city is from here. The Museum Campus includes the Field Museum, Soldier Field, Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium, so if you are ever touring Chicago, or are ever bored at home and you live in Chicago, definitely stop by and visit one of these places. The campus is huge and honestly, the area around Soldier Field can be a bit confusing because of all of the bridges. It can also get extremely crowded because of all of the tourist going in and out of each area and exploring. You can come here day or night and find wonderful views; however, I believe that the more breathtaking views are at night because you can clearly see each building and the beautiful lights reflect off of the Lake at night. Every time I am here, I see people taking gorgeous wedding or prom photos, so if you have any special occasions you need pictures for, I highly recommend taking them around here. Be careful with parking because parking around here can get pretty hectic, and there are some pay-to-park meters. read more

We've been to Chicago many times and finally made it over to Museum Campus. It's essentially what it sounds like -- green space and lake space connecting Chicago's top museums (Field Museum, aquarium, etc). We laid out in the grass and enjoyed the view for awhile and it was so wonderful! I love that much green space in the middle of a city! read more

During the day or at night (when it's best), you can enjoy the complete skyline view of Chicago (including Navy Pier). Museum Campus sits alongside Lake Michigan and encompasses some of the city's most notable attractions: The Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum of Natural History, and Soldier Field, home of The Chicago Bears football team. This has always been one of my favorite spots in Chicago. The views are phenomenal! You could easily spend a whole day in this small corner of the city. A good four to five hours in the Field Museum alone. Park in The Adler Planetarium parking lot - it's $20 for the whole day and is $5 cheaper than everything else around it. I love the whole Museum Campus! I love that in the past five years or so, they have really made fantastic renovations in the area. Before this area was a little on the dead side, and the bus route wasn't as convenient and only the 10 came here. However, recently the 146 has been more than timely to get you to everywhere that the 10 could also get you to as well. There's a nice walking trail here that you often find people walking their dogs or taking a stroll with their family. As many have said, the view by the planetarium is spectacular. Hello Chicago skyline! It's really gorgeous during the day OR at night. The museums here are also relatively top notch. I can't speak for the planetarium because I've been there 4 times now and each time ... was worse than the last (lol... is that possible?) but I love the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum! Highly recommended, you will want to spend several hours or not whole days here. read more

This review is actually for the sights by the Planetarium, not for any of the specific museums. I was looking for a place to take a picture of the Chicago skyline. I finally settled on this place and boy it did not disappoint. It seems to be a very popular spot for wedding pictures and prom pictures as well. A good panorama can include the aquarium, Willis Tower, Hancock Tower, and the Lake Point tower all in one shot. Get your panoramic apps ready or your wide angle lens and frame a beautiful shot. The Museum Campus hosts several museums -- the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium -- as well as Soldier Field. The campus can be a bit confusing but what a wonderful place to spend time afterward. We love to bring lunch and eat on the waterfront. My boys also love watching the boats. Be careful about going to the campus when there is a game at Soldier Field (unless you are going to the game). It is a mess -- serious traffic -- and parking fills up very fast. read more

My #1 favorite spot during my visit!!! We didnt go into any of the museums, but if you're short on time like we were, walk towards the back of all the museums, and you will be treated with the best view of the city. There is a long pathway to the aquarium, and they have stone steps you can sit on and you're RIGHT on the river. You see joggers and bikers. The color of the water, the peacefulness, the wide spacious sky and water stretched out before you, the cool crisp breeze...breathtaking and absolutely RELAXING. You can walk to the left as the path curves and as you keep walking, on one side of you the stone wall, and on your right the water, you slowly see the buildings of the city appearing before your eyes from afar. Beautiful. I felt like I had delved into a secret spot, a hidden gem. So grab a hot dog from a vendor (YUMMY) and go here to relax by the water and people watch. :) read more

I'm gonna flat out and say this is the best view of the Chicago skyline, unless you're out in the middle of Lake Michigan, then I'd say that IS THE BEST view of the Chicago skyline. The actual Museum Campus is composed of the Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, and Shedd Aquarium (am I missing one?) and Soldier Field is also on the property area. I come here at least once a season because the view is just beautiful, you have to see it different times of the year. I went last night and of course all the red and green lights were on coming from the Sears Tower. Other times it's been red for the Bulls and blue and orange for the Bears. Luckily, it was clear but still cold. You can sit along the Lake, but be careful of the water and goose poop everywhere. I yet have to bring my camera and stop using my iphone to capture this view! Parking is on the street, but I've never had a problem with getting tickets or paying if it's at night. But you are not able to drive towards the Planetarium after 11 so if you want a night view plan to go before then. read more

Extremely cool spot and I love the fact that so many things are close by. You don't have to drive to different parts of town to get to each of these attractions. There is a lot of green space and it's just outside the core of the downtown but not in the middle of BF nowhere. Have some time to kill before heading to a Bears game? Sure why not head down to any of the field museum, shedd aquarium, or the planetarium!!! How awesome is that? It's a great area to walk by and through! read more

It's a city of museums! Our local friends decided to take us to a popular destination to see the whole skyline of their beautiful city. The museum campus is every parents' dream family vacation in a city. It has entertainment for the children (observatory, aquariaum, etc) and fun for the sports fanatic (Soldier Field-Da Bears!)! It is a park with museums that provides education, science, and so much more! We did not get to stay long, but the area they bought us to was a small section of the park near the observatory and the view of the city was amazing! I wish we had more time to walk around, explore, go to the Observatory at night, and have a picnic, but there was an event (Beyonce and Jay-Z in da house!) so they closed the area for their event. It was the first stop on our city adventure and it was a very nice area to begin with. Wish we got to stay longer though! read more

Best view of Chicago, even better than Promontory Point, in my opinion. I used to rollar blade down here on the lakefront path, and just when you think it's not going to get any prettier then having grant park on one side and the Field Museum in front of you, you follow the curve of the path around the Shedd Aquarium and suddenly all sounds of the city traffic are blocked and you have a stunning view of the city but you don't even feel like you're in it. It's gorgeous at night. My best friends from college and I used to make spontaneous trips here on Autumn nights and run from our illegally parked car wrapped in blankets to watch the city lights and talk. Beautiful. On warmer nights the place gets festive and filled with families of all color having picnics and parties. Super fun. And then of course, pick a museum, any museum. I personally think most of them are mediocre, but the planetarium rocks. Another little secret is that if you go to the back side of the Field museum, around Soldier Field, there's some pretty incredible empty hills that make great strolling. In the winter one of them is the best place in the city for sledding. I'm not sure it's legal, but it sure is fun. read more

I live right down the street from Museum Campus and I LOVE it. The path areas are beautiful and are made for both walkers and bikers. Plus, all the museums are close to each other so you can walk easily from one to the other. Its located right by the lake for breathtaking views. I've come here to watch the fourth of july fireworks and really enjoyed it! There are food vendors here too if you feel like some Italian ice or hot dogs. read more

very cool part of the long stretch of grassy area that lines the westernmost border of chicago. since this is by the water, you can take in some great views of lake michigan and anyone and anything that is in the lake. this area is well organized, with museums and landmarks next to each other, so you can easily walk from one to the other. the museums and landmarks include: *the field museum *adler planetarium *shedd aquarium *soldier field the pathways are well-paved and there are some tunnels here that add character to the park/campus. a definite must-see for anyone who visits chicago. read more

Quite congested on the main paths during peak warm hours, with zigzag dodging of Segway tours, bikers, joggers, walkers, and sky gazing tourists. Watch where you are going and make noise and you will be fine. This is a beautiful area to just wander around and sit by the lake both during the day and at night. The area around the planetarium has a perfect view of the Chicago skyline including Navy Pier. This is my absolute favorite view of the Chicago skyline and one of my favorite spots in the city. My family frequents this location when we're all together just to view Chicago and Lake Michigan in all its beauty. Best of all, it's free! Parking can be kind of tough depending on when you go, especially if there is a free day at the museum, fireworks, and other events and festivities. There are pay for parking spots but sometimes, there are free parking spots you can snag (the ones where you have to pay during certain times but not others). The free ones tend to be on the side closer to the lake. You can catch the fire works across at the Pier on Wednesday and Saturday summer nights. There is a grassy area for picnics, pavement steps to sit on, and a sidewalk right that touches the lake that spans to other parks and beaches. There's a free telescope right outside the Adler Planetarium upstairs by the gift shop. read more

This is one of my absolute favorite places in Chicago. And I am SO lucky that I worked on the campus!! I walk out the north door of the Field and am greeted (on those good days) by a shocking shot of the skyline and the gleam of the bluest water with spots of bright white sailboats everywhere. I look forward to the noon hour where I can grab my lunch (or a hot dog from my favorite vendors outside!), pull out my blanket for such an occasion and stare, read, whatever...I'm content! Downside: children but what are you gonna do? It's a place for kids and adults alike. But watching my coworkers throwing around a baseball or Frisbee and eating lunch together reminds me why I love this city and why everyone loves living here. For places and days like that where nothing can seem wrong. And when I work nights and it's clear out that skyline lighting up hits me in the face - based on what's going on month-wise, events, whatever, the Sears Tower changes the colors of it's lights (pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, blue and orange when the Bears went to the Superbowl). But that shot is something else! And if you get a chance take the water taxi from the Museum Campus to Navy Pier...it's a cheap ride! And if you work on the campus you get to take it for free! Free and scenic ride downtown? I'm all for it! (NOT suggesting you stay at Navy Pier...I shudder at that thought!) So grab a picnic lunch, and don't even plan on going to the Shedd, Field, or Alder - just bring the dog/kids/partner and enjoy this view because it's one I think a lot of people take for granted! read more

It's very convenient that all the museums are rounded up in one location. Come here for the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium , and/or the Planetarium! This location is a great family spot and can be explored within a day. I especially like how you can take the ferry back to the downtown ... it's perfect tourist/local combo. read more

Biking here is a great experience. You get museums, fields, water taxi, bike trail, and a little beach called 12 street beach by the Adler Planetarium. There's also a Taco place there that's pretty decent. I will stop by in the future when I'm biking. read more

I highly recommend the Citypass! It was well worth the price! There is so much to do in such a close vicinity. The Field Museum will take pretty close to all day. The Shedd Aquarium will take a 3-4 hours. We still haven't made it to the Adler Planetarium. The bike paths, CTA, and parking at Soldier Field make this very easy to get to-parking was between $19-22. The views of the city and lake are worth the cost of parking if not more! read more
