I was super hyped for some traditional Jamon, so why not visit the popular and well renown Jamon museum? Bad idea...
First and foremost, expect huge crowds no matter what day it is! We visited during the copa del rey championship day and oh my goodness, you could barely move inside. Location wise, it is perfect if you are smack dab right of the middle of the city, as it is right next to the main subway stop. Where the negativity comes into play for this establishment is the service, it was absolutely atrocious, and I am not one who minds being ignore a few times before I get some service at restaurants. I felt like I was playing the role of Patrick Swayze from Ghost, absolutely no one acknowledged me. Finally after a few minutes a nice local literally yelled at someone behind the counter to help me out (Cheers to them!). At this point I had no desire to really ask any questions, especially since the employee was already annoyed with helping a customer. I opted for a sandwich filled with "Jamon" according to the employee. What I ended up getting was a stale sandwich with a few slivers of Jamon. Not the cheapest, tastiest Jamon, and lack of cheese or anything else had me running for the door, versus trying more of their Jamon.
Now could this of been a one off and a unusual bad experience, possibly, but in all honesty I felt like I found smaller markets with better cuts, taste, and more affordable. I'd skip this if someone asked for my opinion. read more
