The cocktails here are amazing! So creative. The bartenders are fun and conversational. Def worth the visit!

The best cocktails in Madrid. Located on the Grand Vía is the Museo Chicote serving clients since the turn of the last century. It's not a Museum, so don't be fooled by the name. During the Spanish Civil War, Chicote was a favorite meeting place for the foreign press, frequented by Hemingway after he filed his dispatches down the block. The bar still looks like it did in the 1930s and is decked out with pictures of the famous, Hemingway, Gardner, Grace Kelly, Dali, a young Pedro Almodóvar and others. The cocktails are served in chilled glasses and made to perfection; almost an obsession as if in a chemistry lab. I ordered my Martini and it was clear and chilled looking like Icelandic glacial water. On the weekends there is a DJ. The drinks are about 9 euros a piece including taxes. A bargain in a historical site such as this. Long gone are the Orson Wells, Hemingway and Eva. You are more likely to find tourists here although the crowd skews to locals. However, the drinks seem to be the same calibre that drove Papa Hemingway here trying to wash away the horrors of the Spanish Civil War.

Saw this was located across from my hotel and I had to pop in one night for a night cap. -first cocktail bar in Spain (1931) -art deco interior -celebrities back in the day use to frequent (Ernest Hemingway, Ava Gardner, Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren & Frank Sinatra) It was a quiet night and we grabbed one of the booths. Lighting is dimmed, so we had plenty of privacy. I tried a couple of cocktails: Daiquiri Classico Clover Club Strong and solid cocktails. Bonus, they bring around some nuts & chips to snack on. Although a few more tables filled, it remained relatively quiet. We ended up staying longer than expected and its hard to go wrong when you have snacks, strong cocktails, and a quiet booth for chit-chat.

I visited this spot as I was out on the town celebrating my Bff bday. We had an AMAZING TIME! We had the BEST bartender ever! drinks were great and it definitely was a vibe. If you're planning on going to Madrid, you have to stop by there and ask for the bartender Enzo. I also spoke with the manager who was also amazing on the way out and praised the great service. Great location, and one of the busiest bars in the neighborhood. The place was pretty full, so going to the toilette was a mission each time. People were dancing in the empty spaces (there's no defined dance floor and between the bar and booths are high tables and high stools). A group sitting at a booth stood up and I asked to sit while they danced. They never came back to sit down, but they kept their coats in a rack above the booth. So the people here were lovely, generous, and neighborly. I thought it was pretty cool that they were trusting, and people seemed to operate on an honor system. Later that night, a new group came around and asked if they could keep their coats in our booth. Extending the good will, my husband and I became guardians of all these coats. In the meanwhile, we asked for tequila after tequila. The service was speedy and friendly. In fact, the server ended up taking photos with my husband. And the group who had asked to leave their coats drank and danced with us. Group photos and merriment were abound. The music was a mix of international hits, top 40s, and 80s. The crowd here ranged between late 20s to early 50 year-olds. And everyone seemed to coexist perfectly well.

Lovely music and drinks on the Gran Via. To be in such a lovely place where Princess Grace Kelly and other famous people frequently came is quite charming. Enjoyed the ambience and the drinks!

I love Speakeasy-type cocktail bars in NYC so finding this gem was awesome! It's a place with that prohibition-era feel and look. Our bartender was great and so was the food! And to think Hemingway himself and other old Hollywood stars have had a drink here too! It's pricey but not any different from SoHo prices. Had a really good time here.

I visited on a rainy Thursday night so there wasn't a large crowd and I grabbed an open seat at the end of the bar. A friendly gentleman gave me a menu and asked what I was interested in. When I mentioned the Old Fashioned, he advised that it was an Amaro-based version without the usual bourbon/whiskey spirit. I noticed a Brooklyn and commented that I sometimes made those at home. Very politely he noted that if I was making them in the US, it wasn't with Amer Picon, which isn't available in the US. He's right. So an actual, real Brooklyn it would be! I thoroughly enjoyed the Brooklyn. I also enjoyed some brief conversation with the bartender who was very good. The kind who uses the spoon or straw to taste each drink to ensure it was made properly. As I was paying my bill and mentioning to the gentleman who initially greeted me that I wanted to bring my business partners here later in the week, he wrote his phone number on a business card and told me to call him in advance as the bar got very busy when it wasn't raining. Turns out, this friendly man is Alberto the owner! Guess I didn't do quite as much research as I could have! I regret we weren't able to make a second visit to 1862 Dry Bar on this particular trip, but it is going to be my first stop next time I'm back in Madrid. Great vibe, excellent staff and a classy and friendly owner.

I think they mean "Bar Rooster."…read more In any event ... Stopped in here on New Year's Day around 8:30 and the place was dead. For that reason, I can say the service was great. Everyone must have been hung over from the night before. Or still sleeping. The die hard NYE revelers stay out until about 7 AM in this country. Not me. I can't hang. Overall, the cocktail menu has about 20 of the usual suspects: martini, strawberry daiquiri, mai tai, manhattan, sidecar, etc. No prices in the menu but expect to pay about 7,25 each. In other words, about half the price you'd pay at a cocktail bar in New York, so a major bargain for me. The sidecar was delicious, as was the whiskey sour. While not explicitly clear in the menu, this place will either create cocktails for you or let you create your own. Just ask. Desperately wanting paella across the street at La Barraca, the unoccupied waiter took the time to run across the street to check on availability, then again to make a reservation. Excellent customer service, though he was taken aback at my gesture of a small tip for his efforts, which he reluctantly accepted. Bottom line is there really aren't that many bars in Madrid dedicated specifically to cocktails, despite the size of the city. Consider this place a rarity. Other: Very classy decor. Cool music. Chill vibes. Free wifi zone. No food.
