His house museum is also a 5 minute walk from here. The collection is divided into 12 rooms that pretty much chronologically display his works. From his more realistic works to the more abstract and surreal works, the storytelling aspect of this museum was nice, especially in detailing how his work changed during the Spanish Civil War and World Wars. I scanned the QR code for the mobile audioguide which was nice to learn more about certain works. Took about 1.5 hours listening to almost all audio clips. I came during the winter holiday season, so booking in advance is definitely easier. The museum also features works from other artists like Dali.

Originally, I wasn't going to visit Pompidou, but it was Sunday and the lesser known museums that…read moreI'd planned on visiting were closed and Pompidou was nearby as with most of the museums. At the time of my visit, there was a choice of the permanent exhibit (7€, seniors 65+ 4€) and for an added fee you could view the temporary exhibit; just the permanent please. With admission, you get an easy-to-use audio guide to explain many, but not all the works that have the theme of time. Otherwise, most of the exhibits have cards that explain the art. For example, one section was about leisure time, another was about the aged which was thought provoking (elderly are less productive, more isolated). In general, the exhibits had a message (ie. breaking gender boundaries or how leisure time provided rest or promoted creativity) that required me to slow down and think about how time applies to me. Thinking the Pompidou had paintings from Picasso and Miró, I was surprised to find only one sculpture from Picasso, two paintings by Miró, and one painting by Matisse. While there was an exhibit where ground spices were hanging from pantyhose-like material and the audio guide said it invites you to smell the spices, I discovered the "invite" was rhetorical when security told me I was too close to the exhibit.

Additionally, there was an orchestra playing in the courtyard, but you needed a ticket for a seat in the audience. At the time I arrived, there were no more tickets for seats. Included in the collection are findings from the Cave of Nerja which shows how Homo sapians-sapians lived during the last Ice Age, grave goods, and Phoenician tomb findings. At the time the Phoenicians settled in Málaga mining for silver, the people were under Assyrian rule, whose currency was based on silver. Exhibits are well curated and have both English and Spanish explanations.

The permanent collection traces Russian art from the 15th century until today, tracing the contemporary social attitudes at every point. Rather than taking…read morepublic transit, I decided to walk there from my Airbnb (near Picasso's childhood home), and I'm really glad I did. I saw so much of the city on my way to the museum, and when I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's free! The museum itself is actually quite large, and much of its contents are unusual--almost phantasmagorical. If you're a fan of installation pieces, this place is a must-see.

Having no specific interest in glass or crystal, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was really fun. It is basically an old beautiful house that the owner turned into a gallery to house his impressive collections of glass, art, and furniture. He gave us a personal tour of the place himself. He was so delightful and nice, plus hearing his stories of how he acquired some pieces was fascinating. It does not take long, probably about 30 minutes, to go through the place. There is also some glass jewelry for sale in the lobby that would make a unique gift. Worth the four euro admission! Check it out if you have the chance.
