There were 13 of us in a class to paint a decorated tree in the beautiful outdoors. Our instructor was very good. She led us, step by step, to make the tree all better than we thought we could upon entry. There were plenty of breaks to get paint to dry, and that made the experience the full two hours. She was also willing to take photos of groups at the end. There are drinks and snacks available and near by bathrooms, so you can keep yourself busy during those breaks. It was also reasonable for the amount of time spent, and for being able to take something home with you...$35/person. We will be back!

The space is big and you never felt claustrophobic despite the fact the place was pretty packed. We appreciated the fact you are seated at a table (at least for this band. I no longer enjoy standing for hours on end at a long rock show!). The bar is reasonably priced - a Lagunita's IPA was $6 or so. They seem to run the venue pretty well - no goony bouncers or shady staff lurking around. Stop in for a show if a band you like is playing here! The Vixen is a great music venue with good sound!

I recently had knee surgery so opted to buy a VIP Table in the balcony so I didn't have to stand all night. I was glad I did because the band played for over 2 hours and there was also a DJ. The venue itself is dated and carpet and furniture upstairs smells musty, like an older bar. However, the view and sound from the balcony were pretty good, and we had our own little dance party upstairs. It is a walk downstairs to use the bathroom, but we appreciated that there was a bar serving drinks upstairs. During a few parts of the concert, it sounded almost like the song started off key, and we kept seeing the vocalist tap his ear, so not sure if there was an audio issue. There is parking nearby, if you arrive early enough to get a closer spot. The employees here were working hard to get everyone inside, despite the long line. Drink service in the balcony was fast. There is no separate entry for VIP. Just one long line and once you get inside are then brought to your ticket area. In all, I would say we waited outside for close to 30 minutes before we got inside for bag and ID check.

I have also emailed many times since 2017 and no one has ever got back to me. Seriously there have been 15 to 20 phone calls with messages and not the "mail-box voicemail has not been set up". All emails (about 15 or so) have not been responded to. It's too bad that this Christmas gift of "Two - Hour BYOB Painting Class for Two" has not been able to be redeamed since 2017.

Dawn, the instructor, gave us really good directions on how to paint the picture so that it looked halfway decent. And what a surprise - we went home with two nice paintings. Adding to the fun is that everyone is encouraged to bring a bottle of wine. Some people even brought food - note for the next time we go. Definitely fun for groups.

We saw a ten act horror show. It was fantastic. The actors were really good and engaging in their…read moreroles. The studio was small but cozy. We sat in the front row, so we literally a few feet from the actors. About 20 people in attendance. The cost was pay what you want, so I gave $30 each for my wife and I. Afterward, you could give more for the actors, so I threw in an extra $20. The theater is a little tucked back from the street. It's small, and you have to go up a flight of stairs to enter the studio. All the people who worked there were nice and helpful. You could buy alcohol at a reasonable price, but I passed, as I didn't want to have to use the restroom in the middle of the performance. I plan on looking up more shows as they come out. I like the small setting and with only 7 actors performing, you could really sense their skills for each story. They also have art you can bid on in the studio, although we didn't place a bid. I'm not an artsy person but I like plays, and the theme was right up my alley. To the actors that performed that night; bravo!!!!

When, we arrived to set up early our contact person was more than helpful. He went above and beyond. He was enthusiastic to help us out if we needed equipment. This place is HORRIBLE!!!…read more This is only a review of the children's ballet class: I had my daughter enrolled in the ballet class. She was so excited she couldn't speak when she found out i enrolled her, now i feel awful for sending her to this place. The class is very strict, which isn't a problem for me, as ballet requires a ton of discipline and drive. My daughter was in third grade when i enrolled her. The problem came in when i heard from my daughter what they say to them during class. She was called multiple names by the instructors, told she was fat, told her that her stomach wasn't in good enough shape etc. She also told me that this happened to other girls in the class, and is why she didn't think it was out of the ordinary. This wouldn't happen when parents were watching meaning that the teacher knew her actions were completely inappropriate. My daughter was told in front of the class by the instructor: "it looks like you ate a turkey dinner before you came in" "don't eat before you come in so your stomach doesn't show" "your legs look fat and wobbly" "i am in better shape then you and i am way older" "suck in your cheeks so you don't look so fat" All of these things made me horrified! When I brought it up I was told that ballet requires them to hold the perfect form and that was the reason for her words... to which i replied that you don't need to make personal comments on people bodies types, weight, etc to help someone hold the perfect form. Anyways i hope this helps parents make the right decision on whether to send their child there.

THE institution for ballet and dance training, in Mchenry County…read more Professional. I took classes taught by Mrs. S. back when I was a child. And have taken adult ballet here as a well-aged adult. The professional and polite atmosphere had not changed one iota from childhood to adulthood. Always respectful, yet disciplined. This is THE place to send your children (or yourself) if you truly want to learn the art of ballet. I still reap the benefits of beautiful posture and poise, and I'm pushing 40!
