We arrived in the afternoon and apparently that day admission fees were waived due to a few temporary exhibit closures. Free admission! : ) Three rooms were blocked off.. I would have loved to see Chagall's timeline, but nevertheless, what we did see was amazing!!! The museum was not large and overwhelming. His work was beautifully displayed. A lot of interesting biblical pieces, glass stained pieces, and a few circus gypsy references. Plenty of comfy benches to sit and resonate. Drawings were displayed as well. A small souvenir bookshop was located next to the museum where I bought a few art postcards and a Chagall museum book. Talented artist and so worth the visit! Must see for sure

Not a fan. Me, on the other hand, I find joy, inspiration and melancholy in Chagall's work. His stained glass inspires. His canvases touch on culture, religion and history, and also weave in colorful influences of a later life spent in the South of France. Tucked in an affluent hillside in Nice, the museum can be booked ahead or tickets purchased in person. They have many large-scale oil paintings, along with stained glass, mosaics, watercolors and pen and ink drawings. Recommended. The museum has an outdoor cafe, for those who want a quick pick me up after the museum, and to linger.

Not my style, I was hoping for more fake furniture styled in how the family once styled it and there is some, but that some is small lol. It is only downstairs too. BUT this place is free so just go. That is if you are like me, and like to go see architecture, you will love it, so I stuck it out and did all floors. You can snap photos of anything you like as well, unlike half and half of Euopean museums where you are not sure if you can take photos, but here you can! I went when it was closed but the locals all play around the roundabout and have conversations on the benches provided. Best room is with the artist who's fascinated with the vibrant blue and women using their bodies to paint on canvases. Everything is translated into multiple languages. Overall it deals with modern Italian art from the 1960-70s. Lots of films in Italian.

I've been to the Tate Modern, San Francisco MoMa, and Bilbao Guggenheim, and I found the art in this place just too bizarre for my taste. There were 3 floors of exhibits and it was enough for me - the first floor was a temporary exhibit and was so strange. There was a giant " 1-bedroom " apartment exhibit that looked like someone was moving in or out of their apartment and didn't unpack with water bottles and other trash on top of water bottles. There were blankets in dry cleaning bags, and other ordinary pieces you'd find just hung or laying on the floor. The other exhibits were slightly less weird, but there were just a lot of canvases or fabrics painted or dyed in all one color. The Yves Klein stuff all in blue was interesting and very colorful. But other things like a rope died different colors, a pile of rocks, and other things that I could have made myself was not impressive. Maybe if there was an audio guide that explained things better, it would be have been more interesting but I spent an hour in there and had enough. I've never heard more snickering in a museum in my life. The entrance fee is 10€ but free for students, but I would have just preferred to get a coffee something instead. No offense to those who like really modern art, but this was just not for me. Plan to spend 1-1.5 hours here, it's not super big. It was raining and cold in Nice when we went, so we didn't feel like we wasted a good day outside, but this would not be my first choice of things to do in Nice.

Wish I had done my homework as the Villa has an on premise restaurant. Manageable walk from the Beaulieu-sur-Mer train station taking the scenic coastal route in which you will be greatly rewarded with numerous photo opportunities. It's a gorgeous estate built as a winter house for Béatrice de Rothschild (yes of the famously wealthy Rothschild family*) between 1907-1912, that is currently managed by the Academie des Beaux Arts, having been bequeathed this estate in 1933 by the owner prior to her passing. As a significant collector and appreciator of art, the property houses a varied array of art forms from different eras, that Béatrice acquired over her lifetime. The gardens are also cultivated with several distinct themes. Located on Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, the villa smack dab (~10 km away) from both Nice and Monaco. The closest train station is Beaulieu-sur-Mer from where you can take bus #15 directly to the outer driveway entrance, about 5-6 minute walk slightly uphill to the ticketing entrance and gift shop. Arriving by car there is free parking available in a lot. The views from the villa's elevated position on a hill overlooks the Bay of Villefranche and the Bay of Beaulieu. A tremendous number of mansions (owned by the ultra wealthy and celebrities) also dot the landscape. Walking up to the entrance, tickets can be purchased inside or prior online. Regular adult tickets are €18, €12 reduced, free for children 7 and under. A combined ticket along with Villa Kérylos is available for purchase on-site only for €24. It's possible to visit both in one day with time to spare, as they're only about 10 minutes driving from each other. Inside, on the left hand side of the lobby free audio guides are available, there is also a free activity book for younger children. The tour takes you around the first floor first, then around the second floor, providing information on Béatrice's life and times, explaining the history of the villa and the highlights of the collection in each room. The total tour takes about 45 minutes. The rooms are gorgeous period rooms with an eclectic variety of decorative furnishings, sculptures and paintings. The grand scale of the main lobby and bath room impressed me. After this I'd recommend taking a stroll in the gardens, where you can enjoy the musical fountains and varied landscapes of each themed garden - French, Spanish, Florentine, stone, Japanese, exotic, rose and Provençal. If you're into the outdoors, horticulture or simply looking for a beautiful place to relax, you could spend hours here. I only spent about 45 minutes in the gardens and felt there was so much more to see. There are miles of walking paths. Mostly not handicap accessible though parts are. There's a tea-room restaurant that's set up in what appears used to be the formal dining room. It's open for lunch and dinner with a break between. This is a pretty cool site. The main attraction is the "backyard" area where you can see the ruins of an ancient Roman bath under excavation. Inside, they have a pretty good collection of Roman antiquities, and then there's a rotating special exhibit downstairs. The only reason I'm not giving this site five stars is that the service, while adequate, could have been better. We didn't get much of a greeting when we arrived, but that was fine. The bigger issue was that they had an employee who was very upset about the totally normal way my wife was carrying her water bottle in the gift shop area who decided to address that by barking at her more than talking. It was a fully sealed water bottle. There was no risk to their merchandise. We weren't near anything of great value. My wife doesn't speak French, but I was right there and I do, while not fluently, more than well enough to translate his concerns if he spoke in words rather than guttural noises. I'm not sure that I've ever, in any culture or language, seen someone jump right to such hostile noise masking and body language over anything, much less something so trivial as a sealed bottle of water. We still had a good time at the museum, saw some great artifacts, and learned a lot.
