Breathtaking splendor on a clear sunny day.
Well worth the €5 ticket to enter and enjoy this manicured cacti and succulents garden on the edge of the historic village of Eze overlooking the Côte d'Azur--on the day I visited you could see all the way to the cape of Antibes. In January you do need to be wary of chillier weather and the potential for cloudy skies, which is hardly that often compared to more northern regions, but more common than you'd experience in summer months.
The garden is accessible by foot as the village of Eze is set atop a cliff on a rather small walled fortification with narrow cobblestone streets. The stone buildings that line the streets are nowadays comprised of mostly local artisan businesses, restaurants and souvenir shops, though the majority of them were closed when I visited in January. Understandably this is off-peak season so some businesses entirely go on holiday considering the lower number of visitors.
Tickets can be purchased via touchscreen located at the foot of the sloped path heading up to the village, or at the garden entrance. If using the touchscreen it will provide you with a time for entry, which was immediate (again since it was January), and a ticket stub. I can see how during peak summer months the line might get very long, and I'm assuming that's the reason this machine was set up in the first place. There are signs pointing in the direction of the garden once you walk up into the village. Upon arrival scanning the ticket at the turnstile provides entry.
The garden itself isn't huge it may take 10 minutes to walk around it's entirety, there are a few sections of stairs so not the most friendly for accessibility (same for the village itself). Of the ton of different kinds of plants, many have descriptions, I believe mostly in French. A large platform area at the top provides panoramic views of the surroundings--the mountains and villages along the coast and the open water for dozens of miles all around. A lovely place to enjoy the views for about 30 minutes to 1 hour if you have the time.
The garden has an adjacent cafe which is open for light meals and drinks, I didn't try it tho I saw a few customers there. read more
