My husband and my eight year old son are avid fishermen and wanted to add fly fishing to their fishing repertoire. Scheduling was easy. He got back to me very quickly and was very responsive to my questions. The day of fishing was glorious. The weather was perfect! We had sweatshirts to wear in the morning, for which I was super thankful (I wish I had water shoes--that was the only thing I did not bring I wish I had. Tim had all the equipment needed including polarized sunglasses. He was organized, attentive, and so enthusiastic. We fished in several places including stocked and unstocked waters. My husband caught the first fish within an hour. Bobby caught the second. I even caught two! By the time we were done, they had caught so many! Each view Tim guided us to was better than the first. The water was pristine. I felt like I was going back in time and was far away from the cares of the world! Tim exceeded all expectations as our guide (and my expectations were high because I know him:)). He was so knowledgeable. My biggest thing, of course, was that he was so wonderful to our son. He answered every question with grace and patience. He got Bobby's line unstuck every time he got it stuck and did it patiently. He answered every question from whether or not he believed in Bigfoot to what was his second favorite freshwater fish. The one in Bowden will barely unlock the gate for you and the Petersburg Hatchery is so small it really isn't even worth stopping in to see. They have trout here from fry up to some big giant hook toothed monsters. Kids have a great time playing here, good way to kill an hour or so.

The park is riverside, but trails lead up a considerable grade, and I was huffing and puffing well before exhausting what was available. It was a quiet space with dynamic flora. The views aren't what you get on top of the mountain range, but it's a different kind of pleasure.

The kayaking experience--floating around the river--at Seven Bends State Park was really the…read morehighlight of my long weekend in Shenandoah Valley. We arrived at 8:30AM on Sunday of Labor Day weekend and were the first and only people there apart from the two rangers who helped us with instructions on how to reserve the kayaks. There were only 8 kayaks so come early or reserve them the day before. The kayak is self-serve so if there's no rangers when you arrive, just give the park a call and someone will assist you. Also, the rent price for the entire day, coming from DC, that is a steal. Admission to the park is $5 and you just need to put it in an envelope and a box. It's an honor system. The kayak will take you downstream to Lupton access. It's about 4 miles trip. Unfortunately, there's no shuttle back to the Hollingsworth access so you just have to walk the 3 miles back. Signal is spotty so you can't call Uber also there's not any. But it's a very enjoyable scenic route! Wear proper footwear to walk back. I highly recommend Seven Bends State Park for kayaking in Shenandoah Valley!

Tubbing was a little iffy only because the forecasted weather looked like it could storm, but Jeff worked with our group to make sure we could still maximize our time on the water by bumping our reservation to an earlier time slot. Adam was our bus driver and he couldn't have been more accommodating to our large group. He even sang happy birthday and a few other songs to our friend who we were celebrating her birthday for! I would not use this stable again…read more Cons: It appears there are too many horses on the property in that the pastures are over grazed and full of weeds. The round bale quality is poor. They place the round bales same place year after. This causesmold and muck to build up around the feeders. Horses here receive inconsistent care, it appeared that it depended on whom what's feeding. There were days where it seemed the horse was rode without permission, saddle marks and perspiration when the horse hadn't been ridden by the owners for months. If you board here be prepared for everything you own be covered in dust. The big barn attached to the indoor is hardly watered and the aisle-ways are loose dirt. Pros: Plenty of trails. The other boarders are generally nice and welcoming. The town of Luray is nice quiet town to visit with a couple of good restaurants and breweries.

We stayed at Misty River and are already talking about coming back next year for a two week vacation on the river. The cabins are rustic but we'll appointed. Older cabins with nice furnishings, a big screen HD TV, hot tub, full kitchen with all the essentials and all the sky, trees and River you could hope for. We had all kinds of plans to run all over the valley doing touristy stuff but spent nearly all it time at the cabin We spent every night near the water with a fire in the fire pit and every day playing in the water and fishing. The sound of the rapids to the north of the cabin help you drift off to sleep at night while the fireflies twinkle outside of your window. We fell in love with Misty River and plan to visit other Country Place cabins in the future.

The big Schloss trail from the wolf Gap Recreation Area is what I would consider a moderate hike…read more It's just a few miles to the summit and the first mile or so is a forestry Road leading up out of wolf Gap. When you reach the Ridgeline and head north along the mountain it's more of a typical Appalachian type Trail. There's no water along the ridge although there are some campsites. The last scramble to the Rock Summit is fairly steep and not for the faint of heart. If you go during warm weather watch your footing, because there are numerous rattlesnakes in the area. You can continue to the north and make it all the way to Half Moon Mountain, or turn right and go east towards the white rocks Lookout.
