I went back again today to give them a second try. They dont have any idea what a custom cut is. If I want a 2 inch ribeye center cut I should be able to get it. I tried to call but no one answered in the meat department. So i went in, thinking they would be busy since no one could answer the phone. nope. not a soul in here. So I get a hold of someone to take my order for a 2 inch bone in ribeye and i get attitude and told they have plenty of cuts in the case. I am specifically looking for thick cut not the thin tiny barely an inch steaks in the meat case. it would be one thing if i came in late and they were cleaned up and they showed me what they had in the back. im getting nothing from them but attitude. so no more chances. im done with murphys. horrible little store run by horrible little people. theyre pandering for money. read more

Very clean, has all your essentials, and super friendly staff! Remember to bring your own reusable bag. If you can't find street parking, there's a parking lot around back. The toiletries and pharmacy section is limited, but there's a pharmacy on the same block. read more

They have many unusual items that you wouldn't expect to find in a supermarket of that size. I appreciate the smaller footprint of this store. Quick in and out. Parking directly in front of the door. However, we visited several times AFTER Labor Day, in September and October. I don't know if I'd want to be in LBI in the summer. This store would not be fun in the crowded season. Due to Pennsylvania's liquor laws being complete and total ass, Murphy's was the first non-European supermarket that I purchased booze from way back in the day. This made it one of the greatest things ever back in the day, and nowadays it still holds up as a decent supermarket. One of only two Supermarkets within Beach Haven proper, Murphy's manages to have the stock of items that tends to be equal parts Acme/Superfresh and Whole Foods/Wegmans. some things are reasonably priced while others can be overpriced, but it rarely finds itself going into Whole Paycheck Mode. And you're always able to find plenty of things that will help to make you're beach side BeerBQ a blast. Overall I could give 3 stars, but in a time where major supermarket chains are absorbing others like Pathmark to the point that the names are dwindling, it really is good to see an independent supermarket thrive to the point of rivaling a nearby Acme. And that along with the nostalgia are good reasons to curve higher. read more

Always loved this place but I just was there and I counted 5 employees either with their masks fully off or partially on. 2 of them came out of the room by produce. If you have signs requiring me to wear a mask how dare you put my life at risk when I'm wearing one to protect your employees lives. I'll stick to instacart from acme down the road. Please ignore the hours on this schedule. I was there this morning after 10 AM ( posted as only open2 hours today). Great deli! Good meats as always. But I was aggravated by the fact that self checkout was the only option without"asking or needing" help. Mentioned it to the manager who seemed dismissive. My wife and I have been coming to Beach Haven for a decade now, and Murphy's is a constant. Positives: well-positioned at the corner of Bay Ave. and Engleside, good hours, good selection, prepared foods & coffee, liquor license (not a gimme in NJ markets). Cons: prices are no bargain (but nothing is on LBI), and apparently the dude from Brooklyn has an issue with the ATM (big whoop). Overall: always happy to have Murphy's available whenever we're down to LBI. read more

A smallish (bigger than a bodega by far but smaller than a giant supermarket), well-stocked grocery store with very friendly and helpful employees. You get the feeling that things are done with care here and that the people working here work hard to keep it clean and easy to navigate. Parking is pretty good (in the back, off the side street) but then again, I went at off-peak times. They don't have a huge selection, but they do have a GOOD selection, if you know what I mean. read more

I had to omit the first opinion. Nothing about the market itself, selection, or quality. First, the places to buy food, and liquor are limited. Murphy's was a surprise for both. They have a large selection for a small establishment, the prices were not a scandal (and for alcohol, comparable to the mainland) and it also features the only Red Box on the island. (It doesn't allow online reservations, or didn't while I was there.) Yes, you will pay more than you would on the mainland---but I've seen worse. Their staff is both friendly, and helpful, and I've been there twice in three days. There is an ACME just a block away, but I found it crowded, dirty, and very limited in comparison to Murphy's. read more

First time visiting, and I have to say I regret not going here earlier, especially considering I've lived here my whole life! Very clean, very aesthetically pleasing, and very nice staff! Don't listen to any reviews criticizing the staff, they are very friendly and do their jobs well. Variety was amazing for the size of the store, and though it's a bit pricey, the level of quality is well worth it. Definitely the cleanest and friendliest grocery store on the island, and I will certainly be visiting again! read more

So glad to find an attractive, high end grocery on LBI. I went here for a few vegetables and was delighted to see that Murphy's is much more than a produce market. It's clean, beautifully laid out and has a fantastic deli with a wide variety of cheeses and cold cuts. There's also a good selection of breads, and their coffee bar features Peet's Coffee. I found a number of "boutique" and organic food items that aren't available at other stores in the island. The wine selection ranges from inexpensive, large format bottles to expensive brands like Far Niente. It's conveniently located in Beach Haven, with plenty of on street parking. read more

One star because zero stars isn't possible. In my opinion, this establishment appears to engage in highly unethical practices. This summer, I was on LBI and sought a market that might accept my ATM card since I needed cash as well as groceries. I found the store online and called. to double check that they accepted ATMs. They confirmed that the store did accept ATMs and offered up to $50 cashback. However, after I finished shopping and when it was time to pay for my groceries, the cashier revealed that the store had not accepted ATMs for some time, but she happily pointed out that the store DOES have an ATM machine which charges you $2.50 (I believe -maybe $2.00) to w/draw your money. I complained that this was not what they had represented to me, but the cashier had obviously been prepared for this and immediately turned to a manager who had a practiced speech ready. Since the manager would not budge, and apparently it was my bank's fault not theirs (how?), I went to the ATM machine, which had the store's logo printed on the side. I see. Draw your own conclusions. I drew mine. Unfortunately, Murphs is one of the few Supermarkets in that part of town,which is probably why they have gotten away with this. read more

I agree with Rachel. It isn't a huge store, but they stock better than average items. Extensive beer and wine selections. The aisles are really narrow, so, if you are pushing a cart, it is better to leave it at the end of the aisle, walk down and get your stuff, then bring it back to the cart. Park on the side of the building for ease getting into/out of your spot. read more

It is stunning how much they pack into such a small store. This place manages to provide incredible selection of your basic needs, plus fresh seafood and a full liquor store. Produce is fresh and plentiful. Are they pricey yes. Are they a little pricier than ACME? Yes. But they'll have what you want and it will be fresh. No matter where you are on the Southern Half of the island... Murphy's is worth the extra trip for outstanding quality, freshness and friendly service. Why pay Beach Haven Fishery's exorbitant prices and endure their inept service? Their store brand bloody mary mix is something special!! read more

There was a price mistake and she told me I was wrong when I wasn't, then she realized and yet somehow I was apologizing to her. Have to try the food to go, there hoagies are the best, full of meat best price anywhere for the money. The Shortie is $6.00 we get the Godfather Italian with everything with olive oil and vinegar, so fresh so much lunch meat. If you like Stromboli and Pizza they have the best can not beat Murphy's anywhere. I use the roll from NY Staten Island for my sandwiches in the roll box in bakery Saves us a trip to AC White House!
