This is really an amazing place for fish and chips and has not let me down. Whenever I am in or passing through Truro Nova Scotia it is a must stop for me.

Really nice local fish & chips restaurant in Truro. We met our friends here for lunch and we had a very pleasant lunch. Our food was fresh and tasty. The fish & chips is the winner. Huge pieces of fish with light batter. Very friendly service, booth was comfortable and very cute maritime decorations inside.

Where's the first place I'm stopping when in Truro? Murphy's Fish & Chips! The fish and chips were cooked perfectly. The breading was light and crisp... it had that perfect crunch. The tartare sauce is a perfect compliment to the fish. We had to poutine our fries (because Canada, am I right?!?) and I'm so glad we did! Honestly, the best poutine we had in Nova Scotia. Take a girl out of Texas, and put her in Murphy's Fish & Chips in Truro... life's pretty good (and tasty)!

Great food! I ordered the fish and shrimp combo with poutine. I need to be barrel out of here! It was so filling, so flavorful. Just a nice Sunday dinner for this guy from Chicago visiting for the weekend!

    Fish and shrimp

I had the fish and shrimp with mashed potatoes and it came with cole slaw and carrots. The fish was amazing. The shrimp was standard fried shrimp. Wish they used the same batter on the shrimp. Loved the Cole slaw. The mashed potato was the biggest disappointment on the plate for me. Basic standard boxed potato. They give you butter but that didn't help. Neither did a lot of pepper. My partner had the Turkey club (dark meat) with fries. He enjoyed his meal. Bonus that it was real Turkey. My synopsis: have the fish and let that be the star.

    Was disappointed in the fries.

Great atmosphere and service was excellent! Fish quite good but the fries were disappointing.

We always stop here on our bike rides for fish and chips and are never disappointed We are not sure what they use to make the batter but it is unlike anything else in a great way

The food is amazing, the service is friendly and it's all backed to the sounds of 50s and 60s music.

Our main course was crispy cod tails on lemon risotto topped with a terrific sauce of caramelized corn. The sauce was spicy and made the dish. For desert we had a lovely blueberry concoction with the unappealing name of "blueberry grunt"! This wasn't foodie food but super fresh ingredients prepared simply and beautifully. After dinner we moved into the main dining room for a terrific musician playing mostly NS folk music. All in all it was a great evening. Great food, great music, friendly people. If you're in Truro, don't miss the Nook.

We were keeping a close eye on time. At 6:48 we asked about the order and we were told it had only been 20 mins. Not true! At 7:10- still no sign of food - so at 7:13 we decided to get it all to go. We left a 10% tip despite slow service. The other table of four had been served, had eaten, and left by 7:05. I ordered fish and chips. Batter bit thick so uncooked inner dough in few places but fish was delicious. The chips??? I'm just going to post a picture showing total - quantity minus one chip - couldn't eat them! Cole slaw delicious. If you go before a show give them two hours! I honestly think the order was held up. Maybe lots of orders ahead?? but that other table had plenty of time! And they were literally less than 5 minutes at most ahead of us!

Entry and exit doors conveniently located on both sides of the building. Although we second guessed it. After glancing at the menu...$19.99 was a bit steep for a midday snack of clams and fries. To be clear I'm not complaining about the price. It's very fair. Have you ever dug for clams?!?! I opted for a bacon cheeseburger with fries and mayo on the side. My lovely companion had her heart set on the chicken finger platter and it did not disappoint. Holy moly. What a meal. "Tender" now has a new definition in my books and it's those chicken fingers. Sauce options are limited. Service was friendly and fast. Food is delivered directly to your table while you wait and admire the surrounding artwork. My mayo didn't arrive with the food and I think I know why. They serve miracle whip instead of real mayo. I believe our counter attendant could feel my love for real mayo when I asked for it on the side in the tone I did, with love and affection. She knew I wouldn't settle for less. God bless. Clutch move: If yer dining with a pretty young filly like I was and it's a sunny winter afternoon. Sit with your back to the daystar and have her sit across from you. Eventually it will be too bright and she will come sit next to you. It's the best of both worlds if you ask me. Looking forward to returning to give the clam strips a whirl, chicken fingers crossed the same lady we will be dining with me.

While looking for a quick lunch on a sunny Saturday, I was right behind a few other people who just got their food as I was ordering, putting me at the front of the queue. Owner and sole staff member Donna guided me through the highlights of her menu and I settled on the hamburger platter. Several minutes of wonderfully pleasant chit chat with Donna followed while I watched her prepare my food like a well-oiled machine. My food was soon ready, coming tightly packed on a heaped paper plate for me to eat in my car, although you can get it secured for a trip home or elsewhere. The crinkle cut fries, while unsurprisingly from a bag, were spot on, with shatteringly crisp exteriors and light, fluffy interiors. The burger was diner-style par excellence - steamed bun; a beefy, hand-made, griddle-cooked patty; melty cheese; sauteed onions, and some bite from mustard and relish. I should have nixed the ketchup to dial back the sweetness, but this was still a great little burger. A cup of house-made coleslaw was of the creamy variety, but still had a bit of tang to it, which helped cut through the rich meal a little bit. On my return visit, I went with the fish and chips. While it's a box that a lot of restaurants feel they have to check, and they do so poorly with from-frozen, pre-battered fish, I heard that Donna batters it in-house, so I was looking forward to trying it. This was a very good order of F&C. The batter was light and airy, and the two-piece was a good amount of food, with the pieces like the half filets that you'll see around, rather than the one gargantuan piece of fish that pubs often have for shock value. The fish was firm, but tender and flakey and I don't know if tartar sauce was forgotten or isn't offered, but I truly just enjoyed the fish on its own. Ceilidh Drive-In is among a dying breed of old school greasy spoons that do the simple stuff well, and while it took me a while to get there, it won't be long before I'm back.
