Akian Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electric - Navien tankless water heater repair!

So wanted to give an update to a 2 star review i left for Akian for work done about a month ago. I…read morehad two gripes: Call center customer service and dispatch and high pricing. I have to give their management credit: They saw my review, reached out and yesterday service manage Jeff called me. It's rare these days for someone to really listen to how things looked on my side of the road and to Jeff's credit he did that. Not only that we reached and agreement regarding what i felt was high pricing two two of the three components they replaced on my AC system. In addition he mentioned that they are moving away from the foreign call center customer service--this is a good thing. Who wants to feel if they get disconnected they can't call the person back? All this reassured me that despite some issues they are getting themselves on track and that they cared enough to make things right for me.

Extremely Disappointing Service -- Poor Communication, Questionable Pricing, and a Complete Lack of…read moreFollow-Through I hired this company to address a water leak in my steam heating system. Initially, I believed the problem was with two steam vents that I had purchased myself but was unable to remove because they were seized. The company charged me $450 to install two vents that I supplied, a job that took approximately one hour. Unfortunately, replacing the vents did not resolve the problem. We subsequently identified what appeared to be a clogged line beneath one of the vents. I requested an estimate to repair the problem and was instead given a proposal to replace both lines for approximately $2,150. When I asked why both needed replacing when only one appeared to be clogged, the technician's explanation was simply that the other one could eventually clog. I explained that I wasn't comfortable spending that amount of money unnecessarily and that, as the homeowner, I believed it was my prerogative to determine what work I wanted performed. I also indicated that I might seek another estimate. Later that evening, I spoke with the technician again and explained that I would like to move forward, but requested a revised estimate to replace only the clogged line. He assured me he would speak with the office and get back to me. A week passed. Nothing. What followed was an extraordinarily frustrating exercise in trying to communicate with this company. Their telephone system requires you to leave a message and wait for someone to return your call, with no indication of when that might happen. If you're unavailable when they call, the entire process starts over. The only person with whom I was able to maintain any consistent communication was the manager of their answering service, primarily through text messages. Eventually, he provided a revised price of $1,850 to replace just the one clogged line. This raised yet another concern. The original estimate was $2,150 to replace both lines. Removing what I understood to be approximately 60% of the proposed work resulted in a price reduction of only $300, or roughly 14%. I also asked the manager whether he had the original estimate prepared by the technician so we could compare the two proposals. He responded that they were attempting to contact the technician. I never received the original estimate, an explanation of the pricing, or any meaningful follow-up. Once again, communication stalled. Finally, arrangements were made for someone from their service department to call and discuss my concerns. I explained that I would be available around noon, and they agreed to call at approximately that time. I sat with my phone in my lap from 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m., waiting for a call that never came. What makes this especially troubling is that I have three family members living in my home, a steam heating system that needs repair, and winter approaching. This is not a cosmetic improvement or an optional renovation. It is a necessary repair to keep my home heated. I cannot help but come away with the impression that this company is more interested in the size of the job than in providing responsible, attentive service to its customers. Whether that is actually their motivation, I cannot say, but their conduct has certainly left me feeling that way. I have no objection to paying a fair price for professional work. What I do object to is being encouraged to authorize work that has not been adequately justified, receiving a revised price that raises legitimate questions, and then being repeatedly ignored when I ask for an explanation. My recommendation is simple: Look elsewhere. I cannot recommend this company strongly enough as one to avoid. Their questionable recommendations, unexplained pricing, repeated failures to communicate, disregard for scheduled callbacks, and apparent indifference to a customer facing a legitimate heating problem have been profoundly disappointing. A company that charges professional rates should be expected to deliver professional service, accountability, and communication. In my experience, this company failed on all three counts.

I think this is my first review that isn't positive on Yelp…read more But I feel like I was just ripped off. Basically, Aundrey came here for less than one hour and cleaned the dust off the the coils of both of my air conditioners for $650 and didn't even complete the job. He did not have a wet/dry vac so he used mine. He did not bring a ladder so he used mine. He did not provide replacement filters. Breakdown of the cost: From the invoice- 'Service call fee covers technician's trip to the job site, including travel time and transportation costs.' I asked Aundrey where he came from. He said from the office which is right here in Newton. 2.6 miles. 8 minutes. = $150 First Air Conditioner: He diagnosed it immediately. Then he cleaned the coils with a brush and he used my vac as well. Look, I have no problem with him using my equipment. I just never had a worker not have his own tools. I had already bought a new filter for this air conditioner so he didn't have to replace it. Total time, about 15 minutes. = $250 Second Air Conditioner which is in the attic. There is nothing in the attic but the air conditioner unit and we do not go up there ever. You need a ladder to get up there. Aundrey didn't have one. He used one of mine. Same problem. Also, This unit needed a new filter as well and it's a different size than the one downstairs. Aundrey left it without a filter and gave me the size of the filter I should get so that I can install it myself. Again, I can't get up in the attic because I'm physically limited. So my air conditioner is currently running right now with no filter. So, he cleaned the coils for about 20 minutes and left the job undone. = $250. Invoice: $150 Travel Time and Transportation costs. $250 Coil Cleaning and installing a filter that I provided. $250 Coil Cleaning and leaving the unit without a filter _________ $650 Oh, and this nonsense about them getting back to you in 10 minutes, it's an automatic text that tells you to call them. I called after I didn't hear from them for an hour or so. That's a big sum when Aundrey took an hour total including his drive time of 8 minutes and the gas he must have used to go 2.6 miles and then not finish the job while using my tools.

Plus, with so many positive Yelp! Reviews ... Tom was incredibly responsive and despite having a booked schedule, managed to squeeze my job in. He is professional, knowledgeable, a great communicator, and has an easy going disposition --- which in my experience can be a challenging combination of positive traits that isn't always easy to find. He came out as scheduled, took a look at not only the sink, but also had to move some ceiling panels in the basement (not an easy feat to access) to diagnose the issue. Within just over an hour, my tenant's sink was fixed and the area Tom worked in was cleaner than how he found it. His rate was completely affordable. He also gave some additional advice regarding updating my home's plumbing for the future. I would highly recommend Tom for any / all plumbing needs. Highly.

Like most homeowners, we hate anything relating to a plumbing issue. For me especially - water and…read moreI just do not get along in a house. I've had various issues already, but this was one of the most annoying - my basement shower, elevated on a wooden frame and installed by the previous owner who did a shit DIY all around job, was a mess and as shoddy as an island shack. So when the shower started leaking at the base between the frame and the cement floor, I knew I was in trouble and that it would be a disastrous fix if it involved pulling out the frame. Well, step one was the research what the eff I was going to do. After some friendly advice from the all-knowing Google, I knew I probably needed to call a plumber (which I hate) and that it was going to cost mucho dinero (the exact reason I hate calling plumbers). I didn't want any surprises for the plumbers I reached out to for estimates due to the possibility of tearing up the wooden base, so I was quite frank in my mass emails I sent out describing my issue. Boy, were the responses fun, and included but were not limited to: -We don't have time for this type of job. Ever. -We're fully booked until a month later, can you wait? -Yeah, we're going to need to come by in order to do an estimate. That'll cost you $150. -No response. (probably laughing at why anyone would waste their time with an annoying job like this) No, eff you all. Luckily for me, Bill answered within a day, and said he'd check out the issue. Bill was great - personable, reasonable and professional. I couldn't have asked for anyone better. He went into the issue understanding my concern, and attempted to fix the leak without getting to the base. Unfortunately, due to the previous scumbag and his wholesome fail at DIY at using glue like some maniacal second grader, Bill was unable to pry the drain out from the top. So I gave him a miserable nod, allowing him to start the process of tearing up the frame. The more wooden planks he tore from both the base and the side frame, the heavier my heart, as I could see Bill was not expecting the layers upon layers of wood blocking his way to the drain and pipe. At one point, he stopped, stating there was a plank he wouldn't be able to get out unless he tore up the whole shower. You could imagine the $$$$ rolling through my mind at that point - my field of vision was literally green, and then a sickening blood red. But Bill, and I have to hand it to him, thought for about a minute when he saw my face, and said he may have another creative idea. Thirty minutes later, and with a large hole slightly larger than a basketball in the wood, Bill had managed to fix the leak (which was caused by the previous owner not tightening the plastic cap underneath the drain. Have I made my point about the incompetency of the previous owner yet?). Despite having a large hole at the most inner wooden base, I was ecstatic, as Bill was able to get underneath the shower with minimal damage. And the cost? Slightly over $200 for over an hours+ work of worth, which includes the help of an apprentice he had observing and getting tools from their truck. This may be a bit expensive as this prices in labor only (no parts or supplies were needed), but due to the complexity and woodwork involved, I'm happy with the net result. Bill will definitely be my go-to guy for my future plumbing needs! Thanks Bill!
