There are 14 or more trails and they seem to create a loop. We hiked 3 miles and called it a day. The trails sometimes needed better signage. I liked the vast amount of picnic areas. This park is well off the main steers creating a quiet place to enjoy. I mean, I heard speed boats during our hike, but that didn't spoil my solitude.

The park is pretty expansive and has several walking trails, a playground, bathrooms, water fountains, and even areas for pickleball and horseshoes. I especially loved all the shade the trees provided along the trails--it definitely made our walk much more enjoyable! My main critique was the cleanliness of the walking paths. There was quite a bit of debris and dog waste along portions of the trail, but other than that, I really enjoyed Waterloo Park and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to walk, get some fresh air, or spend a few hours outdoors.

In case you're wondering about which way to go on the trail, because it goes both north and south from the park, please please go north. We didn't know any better and decided to go south, figuring we'd go around a half mile, get to the end, turnaround, and hit the rest. Well, the trail now connects to another trail on the south side of 121. If you're planning to walk to the south end and turn around, you've got a long way to go. After a mile going south, we turned around. The south stretch (most of which isn't actually Taychas) isn't shady and honestly isn't that great. However, the north stretch of Taychas trail from the park was very nice. Much more shade and available trash cans (for throwing away dog poop bags you carried along your southern journey). Unfortunately, we ran out of time and didn't get to see the northern end, but we will...next time when we decide to go north instead of south!

Thank God we weren't staying there. Like Joseph B., I came to hike. I mistakenly assumed this whole area is flat, and that's what I told the 9 other people in my party. I should have looked at a few more links because almost immediately there were short but steep hills - about 10 in succession just for the first 5 miles. And that's about as far as we got before we turned back. We were exhausted, but it was worth it. Even the three marathon runners in our group said it was a good workout. Start at the W. Juniper Point trailhead, not Cedar Bayou Marina, or you will miss some of the better lake views from the trail. You can follow the trail markers to Lost Loop or cut through the Marina and continue on the Loop on the west side of the Marina. Start early because it gets pretty hot mid-day in March. I'm so excited to find good hikes in N. Texas.

We enjoyed a delicious BBQ by the water while taking in the beautiful views. The park is peaceful, well maintained, and perfect for spending quality time with family. No ATM's etc. There was a metal box it seemed, but I wouldn't deposit any cash into that. They need a better means of collecting the $7. maybe at the entrance? Maybe they are working on that. (smile) Overall, it was a great experience and I did catch some buffalo fish. My neighbors caught a nice channel catfish using cut bait.

We love this state park. Very quiet and peaceful with nice hiking trails. We fell in love with the…read morepig and goat at the "petting zoo". However, we were VERY disappointed in two things: 1) The cabins are old and unkept. We had a hole in the wall near the front door and daylight showing under the front door. The entire cabin was filled with ants. They were on the floor, walls, and ceiling. Every hour I was running around squashing ants. We had to hang everything on hooks/hangers or leave it in the car. Water leaked from underneath the tile in front of the shower. The staff said the State has the money to renovate, but they keep delaying it. So sad to lose customers because they won't spend the money to update it. 2) The pet fee is $40 per day per pet. We had 2 dogs totaling 22 pounds. There was NO extra work on behalf of the staff after we left. Most place charge a deposit that is refundable if there is no damage. They should review their pet policy and consider reducing or eliminating the fee and instead having a refundable deposit. With $80/night for the dogs and $110+ for the cabin, we could have stayed in a nice VRBO home with a fenced backyard and without bugs.
