Blue was very knowledgable about his craft. He was able to take me in as a walk-in on a busy 4th of July weekend and I really appreciated that. He took his time drawing up my new tattoo and I will definitely go back to him for my subsequent tattoos. He showed me several pictures of cover up tattoos he has done for his clients and that seems to be one of his specialties.

Went in because the tattoo shop was doing an awesome thing where you donate a back pack and you get a tattoo in exchange! Of course, how could I say no to that. The lady at the front was super sweet and helpful. And the artist himself was super fast, not so heavy handed, and the tattoo looks super clean. This is my favorite shop I've ever been to. The shop is very clean, sanitized, and neat. The staff works so well helping create exactly what you want. Olajuwon Orenuga is my artist who has tattooed all of my family. He is a master at line work. I've gotten 3 tattoos from him, all exceeding my expectations. Just got a tattoo done by Olajuwon and I am so so happy!!! It turned out better than I expected and he was so chill and funny the entire time. I am definitely going to be getting more work done by him-- his art is amazing! My friend who came with me ended up getting a tattoo by him too because she also fell in love with his work. Just got my tattoo done here last night by Josh, and I am sooooo incredibly pleased with his work! My boyfriend and I have heard several good things about this shop, so we thought we'd stop by for a consultation. Jim agreed to do my boyfriend's first session exactly a week later. We were both shocked because other tattoo places we went to had more than a month long wait! Two days before my boyfriend's appointment, I decided that I also wanted a tattoo. So I sent them an email of an idea of what I wanted and also walked in to talk to them for a bit. To be honest I was a little nervous coming in for my session since I had only given them a two-day notice.. But wow, am I impressed! I didn't even speak to Josh that much prior to this about the details of what I wanted in my tattoo, but he was able to create a design for me that I absolute love! He was very patient and provided me with a lot of suggestions since I wasn't sure what size and color I wanted. I have four other tattoos prior to this, and this is by far my favorite one yet! This has been the best experience I've had at a tattoo shop. These guys are super friendly and extremely helpful and they are willing to work with you. They are also very professional and prompt. I would recommend this place if you're looking into getting a tattoo done. My boyfriend and I will be coming back here in a few months for our next tattoo! :)

Original design I wanted but was told the shading is too complex.

I called ahead today for a walk-in tattoo that was done by Olajuwon. I wanted a celtic tree of life (see photos attached) and was given a flat rate of $200 for my original request with shading. When I came in during the last flash sale, I was promised $100 off my first original tattoo through their Yelp check in, but I was informed after the fact that this guarantee no longer applied due to a falling out with the owners. When I asked why the piece would be $200 (design wasn't huge, I've had friends get designs of similar size with more detailed line work for less), he said that the shading and overall design was too complex for him so he would have to charge more. First of all, if I'm requesting a design on my body in permanent ink, I'm going to want the initial design I present, but whatever, I was willing to compromise since I hadn't scheduled an appointment. So, I pulled up a similar design with a longer stem and less complex shading and he said he could make it happen by 7pm (I arrived at 4:30 and had work at 7, it wasn't finished until 7:20 and around 7, my artist was slacking around talking to coworkers about his lunch. He didn't get coconut chicken apparently). My main issue here was the detailing wasn't as symmetrical as the design I provided and he didn't take into consideration any input I had during the tattoo process. When I made suggestions on how I would prefer the design to come out, (I was very polite and didn't want to be disrespectful when asking him to fix some crooked lines and uneven thickness in the shading) he went on a tangent about how I shouldn't tell him how to do his job and that he knows what he's doing. At this point the tattoo was already coming out not how I'd hoped but I didn't want to further press it after he responded like this because I didn't want it to get any worse. Overall not my favorite tattoo experience and I wish I'd gone somewhere more professional with experienced artists that could accommodate my requests. Attached photos of what I wanted initially, what I ended up asking for, and what I got. He didn't even do any shading as the design shows, he just filled it in entirely and I was still charged the $200.

Came in to get my first tattoo with Blue (the shop owner) and from the very first impression I liked him a lot. He was very welcoming and genuine which made me more at ease before getting it done. The tattoo itself was quick and I absolutely love the outcome! I cannot give enough praise to mums custom tattoo! I got my tattoo done by Olajuwon as a walk in. It was a difficult tattoo as it was in my handwriting and on my inner ankle but it was done perfectly! It looks exactly as if I had written on my ankle. It healed so easily and I am so in love with it! I would highly recommend.

Cannot say enough good things about Steph. She was the absolute best. This was my first tattoo and she knocked it out of the park. She was the sweetest person and had no problem with me wanting to tweak her original design. She made sure I was okay the whole time and she was very light handed and made the tattoo process go by quickly and efficiently. Her details are impeccable and she eased my nerves from the beginning. Tonight I received my Friday the 13th tattoo. They had a special deal where if you brought in a backpack full of school supplies from a specific list, you got a free tattoo. Dani was my tattoo artist and she did an amazing job. She made me feel comfortable and at ease. Dani was constantly talking to me, which kept my mind off the pain. I appreciated her getting a second opinion from another artist, Blue, about the yellow coloring on my rose since I have a lot of yellow undertones in my skin. Apprentice, master, I don't care. Went and saw Rodger at mums tattoo. This guy throws down the ink! Super talented artist that did more than outstanding job on my Neo traditional piece. On saturday (January 8th 2011) I walked into Mum's looking to get some work done. My first and second tattoo on the same day. I explained what I wanted and 3 different artists helped me design the tattoos that I wanted. It was nothing crazy for them, just some lettering and filigree with my daughters names. They made me feel like they really cared about my tattoo. I wasn't just some guy getting a tattoo. Jim (the owner) ended up doing me a favor and giving me a great price and did the tattoos himself. He was super professional and made my first tattoo experience a great one. Needless to say I got two beautiful tattoos that I get compliments on all the time. I can't wait to go back and get my 1/2 sleeve done. read more

These guys did a great job! I came in because they had a tattoo event where you bring in a backpack with kids school supplies and you get a flash tattoo, which is such a rad cause! But on top of it being for a great cause they had an awesome selection! Blue did my tattoo and he was awesome! Really nice guy! Worked very fast and clean lines! I was in the chair for about half an hour with everything done. I love my new little additions. They're healing great! read more

Husband and I happened to stumble into this shop for a quick small tattoo after poor shitty service from other shops around the bend, and sure enough we lucked out. Mums is top notch, in regards to not only quality work, but the service is insane. We've hit this place up twice without a appointment, fairly late into the evening might I say and they welcomed us in. Shawn Henry has been my husbands artist the two times we've dropped in, hes a super respectable, chill, hardworking and creative artist. He works late and is completely humble about it. This time my husband dropped in wanting a flash style stingray on a whim and Shawn drew it up, then my husband had a change of heart and wanted a different tattoo that he had his eye on previously, and Shawn had no attitude about the change of heart. He is good at his craft, super efficient and understands the roots behind different styles, also really easy to talk to. read more

Jonah gave me a lip tat a couple of days ago and it turned out amazing, he's such a cool guy and definitely makes sure you're comfortable throughout the whole process. Jim is the best! I've had 4 tattoos done by him and he always does a great job. He will lead you in the right direction and is honest about what works and what doesn't. He's very fair in pricing, has a light hand, and is personable. All the other people in the shop I've seen have been friendly as well. I had work done previously, I had work done today, and if I choose anything else in the future I'll be going back to Mum's and to Jim. I highly recommend him! My boyfriend and I walked in on Easter Sunday after being turned away by a couple other shops that didn't take us as walk ins. They happily accepted us as walk ins and were so friendly. I originally went in wanting a tree of life, but our artist O was kind enough to suggest that the spot I wanted would be too small and the design wouldn't be what I desired. So I decided on a hamsa instead, which I wanted eventually anyways. He helped me to figure out placement, design, and gave me the vision I didn't even know I had in my head! Also I am super nervous with tattoos and very shakey yet the linework is stellar. He calmed me and is such a cool guy. The entire vibe of the shop rocks. Everyone is so friendly too. I felt like I made instant friends and we can't wait to be back! Awesome place :) read more

I have been to a lot of shops in PB and the greater San Diego area. Mums custom tattoo is the best tattoo shop I have been to and I will continue to go here for all my next tattoos. I love Erik's work. He is an amazingly gifted tattoo artist. Went to him several years ago and got a tattoo I designed (he tweaked it and made it better...and I'm an artist too) and still get compliments every day about it. He also did my side tattoo a couple years later and spent many hours insuring that I was happy with design, placement, detail etc. He had great suggestions that always ended better than my original ideas, while still utilizing my creative and artistic individuality. read more

It's refreshing to find a tattoo parlor that has just as much heart as they do talent! On (July) Friday the 13th, they ran a backpack for tattoos drive AND have since extended it until August 15th! Blue Mason was my artist, he was accommodating, friendly & did my tattoo fast without sacrificing quality! The shop was very clean, with a chill atmosphere, void of any obnoxious distractions. Went in today to get two tattoos for their back to school drive fundraiser. Blue (shop owner) did such a great job on both pieces - He was super chill and fun to talk to, even cracked a couple jokes wich made getting my chest done way more bearable! He offered free touchups for life, but they came out great so I doubt I'll need them. Will definitely be going back! read more

Came here for the $31 special, coming back to get an American Traditional thigh piece. Not only does he do great custom tattoos, he takes amazing professional photos of the artwork when it's done that you can have. I can't wait to see what Blue Mason draws up for me & I know it's gonna be gorgeous. Also, he guarantees his work for life so you can go back whenever for a free touch up. read more

Armondo is my artist. He was very sweet and professional. The shop atmosphere was nice with Elvis music playing. Very clean & friendly. He was quick to respond and asked for a $200 deposit, which I sent via Apple Pay on March 5 to the shop owner. We booked for March 16. Leading up to the appointment, he would send random updates on the design, but nothing was finalized. I gave feedback and stayed patient, even knowing they had a Friday the 13th event going on. I didn't hit him up again until March 15 (the day before my appointment) because we STILL didn't have a finished design, which is wild. He tells me he'll have it done that day. Cool. Then a few hours later, I get a generic email saying my appointment is canceled. No explanation. Nothing. So I reach out to the number I sent my $200 to asking for a refund, and instead of handling it like professionals, they get confrontational and start acting like I'm the problem for asking for MY money back. They try to hide behind a "no refund" policy... even though THEY canceled on me. Make that make sense. I added my conversation with the artist, since the owner wants to claim harassment. Judge for yourself. No policy was ever clearly shown to me, and communication was trash the entire time. Instead of owning their mistake, they blamed me and got disrespectful. I only got my money back after I told them I'd file a chargeback with my bank and take them to small claims court. Go read their bad reviews--you'll see a pattern, especially with how the owner talks to customers. Super unprofessional. Save your time, save your money, and go somewhere else.

I randomly found Mum's one day when I was on a quest to find a tattoo artist that I not only had a respect for but one I could connect with. I had decided that I was ready to get some serious work done and stop getting small little random tattoos. It was important to me to find an artist who had a great eye for detail, creativity, with a fresh twist on style. Not only that but I wanted an artist that I could build a relationship with, someone who offered more than just, "What do you want... This is how much it is..." I went to 8 different shops, not finding any personalities that clicked for me. There were shops with decent artist but no one who went the extra mile to make me feel as if they actually cared what I was getting tattooed on my body. When I was about to call it off for the day I ran into Mum's on the way out of PB. I walked in and instantly liked the decor in the place. It wasn't like an average parlor with posters of pictures and numbers by them. There were no, "Oh I'll take the number 72 on poster B, please." I looked through all of the books there and one grabbed my attention over all of them. Brianna had style, with flavor and had done some very creativity things. I felt good about where her head was at with it. I grabbed her card and called her. When I met B, within 3 mintues I knew she was the one for me. She has been nothing short of amazing. I am in love with all of the work she has done and get comments about it all of the time. People always tell me that I have the most creative and cool tattoos that they have ever seen. That is mainly due to Brianna's eye and skill. She not only works with you on what you want but offers input. She has THE warmest and most friendly personaility out of ANY of the artist that I have ever met. She made me feel right at home and had a sincere care for helping me with what I wanted. With Brianna, you truly get an artist and a friend. I have watched her interact with other customers and they all just seem like friends. It is actually very difficult to tell if the people are customers or people that she knows and hangs out with all of the time. I would strongly recommend her if you are looking for a great talent and someone to bond with during the experience. She is the only one I will go to now. read more

So I really don't know what to say. Im just sooooo totally upset. I went in to this tattoo place last night to get a tattoo for my mother. Something really small that I thought would be no big deal. I was talking to a couple of the guys in there, who ended up being really nice btw, about where I wanted my tattoo when some drunk guy comes in starts touching me all over my body telling me to come in the back with him repeatedly so he could tattoo the tattoo for my mother around d my butthole. I was so scared and embarrassed I'm not sure if I was glad my coworker was there with me, it was her birthday btw, or felt bad. I looked up to see if there was a website to see if recognized the guy, since he never gave me his name, just grabbed my arm and tried dragging me down some hallway. Anyhow I found him and his name is DION TERRY. He's greasy and gross and drunk and scary. I really did t believe he even tattooed people when he came in talking.g about my butthole and trying g to drag me, "into the back" he kept saying, but he does. If you want a safe and comfortable place to get tattooed I'd go Mexico before I went here. I basically wanted to cry. read more

I've had a few tattoos done in the recent past but this is my first tattoo here in San Diego. I went in for their Friday the 13th tattoos and brought a backpack with me for their trade in of a tattoo, while I was a little nervous about the idea of a Friday the 13th tattoo I was pleasantly surprised. The shop owner, Blue, did my tattoo for me tonight and I couldn't be more happy with how it came out. The line work is perfect and it came out looking amazing. The artwork that they produce for personal designs looks awe-worthy and I'll definitely be coming back for more tattoos in the future. The staff is so friendly, easy to talk and joke with. The shop is incredibly clean and organized, it's for sure the type of place you want to be at for your tattoos to feel comfortable and taken care of. I highly recommend going in, whether it be for a small piece or to have someone draw up something completely unique and original for you. By far the best tattoo experience I've ever had. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Many of my friends had recommended this shop to me so I called with an unusual idea and some questions, the front desk girl was extremely helpful and guided me in the right direction. When I came in I decided after looking at all the artists portfolios that Shannon was the best artist to fit my needs. Shannon is AMAZING! She is incredibly creative and talented. She has done my entire sleeve and i absolutely love it! Every time I go there I feel right at home and always have fun. And if you spend enough time there like I do you may get lucky enough to meet the infamous Cousin Steve and play a serious game of Scrabble.The shop is clean and professional and the staff treats you like a friend. I came to the shop for some Friday the 13th flash. What really caught my eye is the ships desire to give back to kids in the community. Allowing us to donate filled backpacks as payment. These are all artists that truly care. Every person in the shop I interacted with today were helpful in every way they could be especially on what is such a crazy busy day. The artist who ended up doing my tattoo was Blue. He was really chill about how I wanted the tattoo placed on my body. I got it done on my spine and it was a tough spot but he got it done quickly. Visiting from NY and decided to get a spontaneous tattoo with my best friend. Chose this shop after reading a bunch of reviews, and I must say they did not disappoint! I called ahead of time to make sure they weren't too busy and walked right in. The shop was extremely clean, and as soon as we walked in we were greeted and set up with Sara, one of the apprentices. Came in for Friday the 13th special. I sat on a couch while inside waiting, the actual location is nice with walls between the artists and their designs on a cool little table. I asked the woman doing my paperwork for advice on the placement of my tattoo and she suggested the perfect place, super friendly! My artist was friendly as well, and I was resting comfortably on their table. The process was fast and the tattoo came out very nice. Clean lines, not as much detail as the picture. My daughter and I seached Yelp for5 star rated Tatt shops in PB for my first tatoo, her second. We went in 3 shops before checking out Mum's. Once we stepped in we felt the great vibes from the employees. We met Dion and showed him our idea for our design. He was friendly and embraced our thoughts to detail and our personalization. My friends and I came in for the Friday the 13th deal and we were standing outside since 6am just to make sure we were first in line, as well as be able to participate in the raffle. The owner came out handing us forms designating that one form was for artists and the other was for apprentices. I went ahead and signed the apprentice sheet. I had faith that they would do well and Sara, an apprentice, did not disappoint. By bringing in a backpack filled with school supplies you were able to book your appointment for a future date. Went in on Friday the 13th and received my fourth tattoo from Sara! The deal they were offering was so tastefully done and plenty of heart was put into the work itself. My boyfriend and I arrived around 5:30pm and though we waited until 8:30 to be taken back, we knew that was to be expected and the experience was worth it. Got a tattoo from Blue and it is by far my fAvorite tattoo! His line work is awesome and he is a very talented artist. He really helped me figure out what I wanted and designed me something that was so perfect and unique!
