A recent bank holiday weekend trip to Wales and a visit to my partners family saw us come to the parental's favorite Indian restaurant.
First off, it's not easy to find on foot. You kinda have to be a local and know this place exists because it's hidden close to a housing estate. It is, however, close to the sea and the Mumbles area. When we started off, there were not that many people in the restaurant. But by the time dinner was done, it was packed to the brim.
We ordered a few pints of non-alcoholic Cobra - which was kinda awesome to know I can partake in some of the festivities even if I didn't wish to have any alcohol, and papadums to start. It came with a generous serving of chutneys and most of them were pretty darn good. The spicy chutney was probably my favorite and far hotter than any of the ones I've had in the Big Smoke (London).
We ordered a feast of dishes ranging from Kochi Gosht to Lamb Madras. I'd have to say that my favorite dish was the Kochi Gosht and the Saag Panneer. The food was very very delicious, and unexpectedly so, since we were in Wales where I guess my expectation of finding good Indian food was perhaps a little lower than I would have in London. Anyway, we also had a daahl which was a little on the watery side and much less vibrant than I usually know the dish. The only thing I would say and the reason why I give it four stars is, please please please don't use so much fried onions on top of the dishes. I know it gives it a little extra flavor, and I LOVE my fried shallots. BUT it almost overpowered the taste of the food. Oh, AND, put some strips of caution tape on the steps leading to the bathrooms, we saw many a person trip on them on the way out. My partner's father's lady friend did trip over them and land on her jaw. NOT a pleasant thing to have dinner with.
Overall, good food, good service, considering the location. read more
