Pak India Restaurant - Basmati rice $5.99

My brother was excited to discover that Pak India was having 25% off for lunch during Ramadan. I guess they need to boost sales during daylight during this time. People who don't fast can take advantage! He ordered a bunch of dishes for us: Onion Bhaiji ($5.99), Chicken Pakora ($8.99), Naan ($2.99), Chicken Biryani ($17.99), Butter Chicken ($16.99), Beef Curry ($17.99), Lamb Chana Daal ($17.99), Malai Kofta ($14.99) and basmati rice ($5.99). I went with him to the restaurant to pick up the food. The Onion Bhaiji wasn't as crispy as I had hoped and we found a long black hair partially embedded in one of the pieces o_O People working in the kitchen need to wear hairnets! Luckily, none of the other dishes contained hair. The Chicken Pakora were tasty, but were more like chicken tenders. They were chicken breast strips battered and deep-fried. The Chicken Pakora I've had in the past (in Toronto) were chopped up chicken mixed with batter and rolled into balls and deep-fried. I was expecting something different but I still enjoyed the dish. The naan was soft and fluffy. The basmati rice was nicely cooked. The Chicken Biryani had a decent amount of chicken pieces in it. It was ok, but not as flavourful as I've had elsewhere. The Butter Chicken was phenomenal. One of the best butter chicken dishes I've had. The sauce was so smooth and creamy and I enjoyed the chunks of breast meat. The Beef Curry and Lamb Chana Daal were both incredibly oily. Look at my pictures, so much oil! I liked that the meat was tender and boneless and not gamey tasting, but I couldn't get over the excessive amount of oil. I did like that the Daal wasn't too mushy. The Malai Kofta were too mushy, they weren't firm enough. Although the sauce they were in was tasty. I'm glad I got to try this restaurant. The regular prices are a bit on the high side in my opinion, but I would consider getting the Butter Chicken, Chicken Pakora and naan again if they had another sale. The dine-in space is nice. The atmosphere is casual. Staff were courteous. The cashier almost didn't give my brother the 25% off discount. He noticed she didn't and asked about it. She at first said it was only for the buffet, but then said she'd ask her dad. She called him over and he confirmed, the discount applied to my brother's order and he corrected the bill. He was nice about it, so we were good. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot, but the spots are a bit tight and awkward. I don't love the parking situation at this plaza, but at least it's available and free. (51)

He got the Chilli Chicken $16.99, Kadai Chicken $17.99, Chicken Hakka Noodles $16.99 and an order of basmati rice $2.99. The Chili Chicken was my favourite. It had a nice amount of heat and came with green peppers and onions. The chicken was lightly battered, and was lean breast meat. The chicken had this artificial reddish hue, which I found a bit unusual. The flavours were delicious but the sauce was so oily/greasy. The Chicken Kadai was also lean chicken breast meat, which I appreciated. This dish was less spicy, but was still full of flavour. My only complaint is again the sauce was really oily. The Chicken Hakka Noodles were ok. They had lean chicken breast meat, cabbage, onions, green peppers and carrots. The noodles were slightly spicy but stir fried in too much oil. The only thing that wasn't oily was the basmati rice, which was soft and fluffy. My dad loved the food. While he was eating it he was already planning his next order there, haha. When he finished eating he asked which restaurant it was from so he could research the menu online. He is so cute! Haha. My mom also enjoyed the food, but she felt it was a bit too spicy for her. My assessment was delicious food, but too oily/greasy. I took a peak at their online menu too and saw they have chicken pakora. I might have to give that a try sometime. I also usually get my Chili Chicken dry without gravy, so I might see what their Dry Chili Chicken is like. (20)

For my sister's bday party we decided to order food from Karara - our first time ever. We ordered 3 orders of vegetable noodles and 2 orders of vegetable Manchurian. Right before we were going to pick up our food, we got a call back from the place that they only had only 1order of vegetable Manchurian available so we would add 1 order of chili paneer instead. We got the food at home and immediately regretted our decision. We opened the box of Manchurian and saw burnt black balls that looked completely unappetizing. As hosts of my sisters bday party, we were embarrassed to say the least. The noodles looked like they had been made with the frozen vegetable mix and did not taste ANYTHING like hakka noodles. It seemed the work of a complete amateur. The chili paneer was a little better but nothing like it's supposed to taste. The sauces were most likely used from bottles found in the grocery store. We called the restaurant back and shared our disappointment. The manager immediately was ready to have us pick another item for free but we were so embarrassed with the food at this point and didn't want to take any other chances now. Overall, they should close the Hakka section as it is a false representation of what Indo-Chinese food tastes like. Completely, utterly and absolutely disappointing food. We will be throwing it all out! Please don't waste your money here.

Looked on their website grabbed the staple butter chicken, garlic naan and samosas! Even on the short drive home everything was still warm and looked delicious. My bf and I split the one order of butter chicken and it was more than enough for the both of us. The Garlic naan was huge! Bigger than my head haha and the samosas with the sauce/chutney? Was delish! Since we ordered food like half an hour before close I though the qulity of food would be very poor because you would think they are cleaning up and putting things away. However everything tasted like it was recently cooked and not just chilling there for awhile! The only reason it was given 4 out of 5 is due to the butter chicken. I think my batch they made they put a little to much tomato paste/sauce. If ur ever in the area and craving indian check it out! And can always grab an ice cream after :p

I've always wanted to try Indian food and it seemed that this would be my only opportunity to do it! I definitely took advantage of that opportunity and I'm so glad I did! The woman there was so friendly and so welcoming, she made me feel like she was my grandmother . I explained to her that it was my first time trying Indian food and she told me about everything, telling me that the butter chicken was a mild cream based dish, the chicken curry was spicier than the butter chicken and the curry beef was her favorite over rice and naan. She actually gave me a taste of the butter chicken and I fell inlove, I felt home, I felt my grandmother cooked this dish for me!!! I got up to get some more naan and she was so so happy to see me again. She asked me if the food was good and I told her the food was absolutely amazing! I told her whatever she was doing in that kitchen, never stop. She smiled and thanked me and went to make me my fresh naan and then wished me a good day. As I was enjoying the rest of my meal she caught my attention to excitingly tell me she wants me to try her ice cream! After throwing my trash out I made my way over to the counter and she once again had a huge smile on her face and this time brought her who seemed to be her husband and he said "she said you like my food", I said "oh yes it's amazing, the best first taste of Indian cuisine I could ever imagine trying" I shook his hand and he tells me how thankful he is for my kind words, he says "I know you're not from here but take my card and come back soon." This had been a very good and humbling experience over food as it'll ever get for me, I strongly believe that.
