I am submitting a review regarding my hospitalization at Covington Hospital and ongoing concerns about pain management and communication during the sickle cell crisis in which I was admitted for. Dr. David Siebert's made very frustrating and neglectful statements about my medication adherence and his refusal to initiate around-the-clock IV opioid management despite my documented history, I would like to document further inconsistencies and communication failures affecting my care. During my first night at Covington, Dr. Michael Joyce informed my father and me that PCA pumps were not used at this facility and suggested that I would have better luck receiving sickle cell pain management at Fred Hutch. This recommendation was confusing and distressing. I reside in Lakewood, and Fred Hutch is located in Seattle. Additionally, Fred Hutch is a specialty cancer and hematology center and not an emergency hospital capable of managing acute vaso-occlusive crises. The suggestion conveyed a lack of viable local care options and contributed to my distress. Over the course of four days in severe sickle cell pain, I was later told that more effective pain management could have been initiated earlier in my stay, which was extremely frustrating to learn given the severity of my symptoms. Following comments made by Dr. Siebert regarding my pain management plan, I experienced an intense panic attack triggered by distress and perceived lack of appropriate care. A Code Grey was called in response to my emotional distress. Shortly afterward, Dr. Siebert returned and asked whether I had ever been on a PCA pump before. This raised several concerns: * We had previously informed care staff that PCA therapy has historically been the primary method used to control my severe vaso-occlusive crisis pain. * This information is documented in my medical record. * The question suggested that my documented care history may not have been reviewed. * It also appeared to contradict the earlier statement that PCA therapy was not available at this facility. These inconsistencies in communication, lack of continuity, and apparent failure to review documented treatment history have contributed to unmanaged pain, heightened anxiety, and significant emotional distress during an already vulnerable medical crisis. I am requesting review of: * continuity and coordination of communication between providers * review and utilization of documented pain management protocols * clarification of PCA availability and alternative pain control strategies * patient-centered communication practices during high-distress situations * care escalation protocols for patients with severe sickle cell pain My goal is to ensure that care is coordinated, evidence-based, and communicated clearly so that future patients do not experience similar distress during crisis treatment. read more

I have been a MultiCare patient for 5 years, always bringing my children here too. I have never once complained or requested controlled medications--until this appointment, my very first with Dr. Show (my regular PCP was unavailable). I disclosed a traumatic experience for the first time and, while crying and extremely vulnerable, asked for short-term help with severe anxiety. Dr. Show responded by sighing audibly with an "ugh", as if my distress and request were a burden or annoyance. She shrugged off my concerns, dismissed why my current medication wasn't helping, and then bizarrely pivoted to complaining about how difficult it is to find a psychiatrist for her own daughter--turning my traumatic disclosure into a comment about her personal frustrations. I felt blatantly treated like a drug seeker despite my long, clean history. She offered zero empathy, zero alternatives, and zero support beyond suggesting I "take an extra pill" of the medication I am currently taking (which I'd already said wasn't sufficient). The entire visit left me re-traumatized and far worse than when I arrived. No one from the clinic even bothered to check on me afterward. This was not poor bedside manner--this was a complete failure of compassion and professional boundaries. I have filed formal complaints with MultiCare leadership, the Joint Commission, and the Washington Medical Commission. If you need genuine, trauma-informed care for anxiety or mental health, avoid Dr. Michelle Show at all costs. read more

Dani in ER Department was amazing she helped me and was very supportive. I recently visited the ER and the staff was truly exceptional. From check-in to discharge, every nurse, doctor, and technician I encountered was compassionate, patient, and professional. They explained everything clearly, made sure I was comfortable, and moved quickly without making me feel rushed. Their kindness made a stressful situation so much easier. I barely had a wait at all and they got me into get scans and a diagnosis pretty quickly all things considered.

I arrived at 10pm with horrible stomach pain. I was seen promptly, worked up quickly by the triage team and the next available bed was mine. Total wait time under 20 minutes from arrival to bed. I received wonderful care. The nurses, PA and DR all recognized my pain. Sadly, no pain meds could be given until after the ct scan - which is policy at most hospitals. But once the CT was done, the nurse was waiting for me in my room to offer much needed relief. Turned out I had an infection that was treated both in the ER via IV medications and follow up out patient prescriptions. Total visit time was under 4 hours and I was back home with minimal pain and ready for a good nights rest. The entire team at this ER was fabulous. I would definitely go back here again! read more

The staff and doctors were great. Definitely cared about a patient even a stem minded one was for ICU and carbon monoxide poisoning.

As an internal customer, I would expect the mutual respect would reciprocate between health care providers, but it does not. I have had multiple interactions now with nurses in the ER that have up front been very nice, easy to work with, and personable. But, the second I am no longer in their presence, they instantly start bad mouthing fellow employees. This has become an issue where outside business partners of multi care have started to receive unwarranted and often false complaints. I hope that the staff at covington can start revamping how they treat their internal customers. read more

The worst as far as wait times. I've been here almost 2 hours and I came in for a Covid-19 test. I keep getting told I can leave momentarily as they are waiting for discharge papers. I'm about ready to walk out. Will give them 15 minutes and will leave if nothing more has happened. read more

I would say, keep driving past this hopital and find one that has reputable staff and better communication. My husband was experiencing severe abdominal pain and this was the closest location with imaging equipment that was open at the time. They diagnosed him with appendicitis and explained a rupture may be imminent. They were working on getting a surgical crew to do his surgery, I asked if perhaps we should go to another hospital where they have a crew available. They explained it doesn't work like that since they had already admitted him. We live very close to this facility ( within 3 minutes) and as such I offered to go get his bp meds and his Cpap. No, they said they would take care of all of that and assured me I could go home and they would take great care of him. They did none of the above. They could not "locate" a surgical crew to do his surgery, never got him a Cpap or his medication the entire night and by morning the appendix ruptured. He dealt with infection, fever and a staff that left us questioning everything. His diet was wrong, the hospital surgeon who saw him the second day post surgery inquired why he wasn't on a restricted liquid diet instead of solids. He was disgusted with the fact that no one had questioned this already. He came out of surgery, he now had infection, blood pressure was out of control and every nurse who came if to switch his IV line would say she wasn't good at it. Thank you for the confidence it what you are doing. It was a comical siutation if we weren't experiencing it as a patient. He ended up being there 7 days for what should have been an overnight stay. He had to get firm in order for them to finally release him. Little did we know that was just the start! The billing was the most challenging situation I have EVER dealt with. They would not provide our medical reimbursement company with the form they requested. It took over a year to find someone smart enough to change something in order for us to get what we needed and generate the form we needed to get paid. In the meanwhile, the hospital wanted paid so they negotiated if we paid the $36,000+ part our medical reimbursement company owed, they would give us a 20% discount. When the reimbursement company paid that to the hospital in full in error they told us they were keeping it and would not refund it to us. Thankfully, the call which was recorded saying they would give us that 20% discount saved us. They had to honor what they agreed to and last week, almost 1 1/2 years later we got our money back in full. I spent hours communicating wtih their bookkeeping staff, supervisors and while they would agree we were owed the money back, it never came as promised. This whole medical situation was a terrible experience at this facility, I would go somewhere else at all costs if you want high-quality care, and a billing department who listens and cares as if the money you paid means something to them. I kinda really hate the pharmacy here. I used to love it because I never had any problems, but the people currently working there are really off their game. Any time there's a problem they always try to push it back on my insurance, but when I talk to my insurance they say that Multicare never contacted them and thus a denial was never issued. They confirm that my prescriptions are, in fact, in the formulary, and there shouldn't be any problems. At first I thought there was a problem with their CPOE system, but based on the reaction I've gotten from the techs they're just dropping the ball. On the flip side, the doctors I've experienced here are great! Very knowledgeable with great bed side manner. All of the receptionists have also been fantastic! read more

I slipped on some water on the floor, slamming my left knee into the floor. I had immediate pain, I got up proceeded to walk down stairs, my knee gave completely out and I fell down the stairs. I could not bear weight on it. I ended up in the ER. I had a 5 hour wait, one xray and a physician's assistant not knowing what was wrong, I was referred out. Given crutches and a leg brace that didn't fit my knee. My blood pressure was in a critical state, no one told me, I saw it on the sheet they gave me later. I became really upset, they were really rude and just let me hobble away in pain. But you can be sure they sent a bill and called to make sure it was paid. Worst experience ever! read more

I brought my 7 year old daughter to seek medical attention but we waited for 5 hours and never checked and my daughter having a hign fever and keep throwing up and I asked the person on the desk. How long are we gonna wait but she respond that they dont have available room. I said I dont need room just pls cheked my daughter but she told me again she cannot do anything.... this place dont care to the people who are needing medical attention.. you should shut it down, people who works over here are not concern about the patients.. including the security persons I am so dis appointed.. read more

Worst ER and birth center experience ever! The doctor didn't even came out to talk to me they didn't answer any of my question and send me off with a discharge paper that didn't even belong to me I came home and realized it wasn't my discharge paper . They try to kick me out didn't want to answer my question and I ask for a print out of my visit they say they couldn't bring out my paper . Stay away! Ultrasound lady is a joke! Rude , cold hearted , unprofessional person I ever met! The lady taking my blood was just there for the money ... hand shaking .didn't tell me why taking all these blood sample for what reason , no one came out and talk to me , nothing! I was sent home after 5-6 tube of blood , ultrasound, and took copy of my paper without my consent.... I left with unanswered question . Feel like I just got scam, rob, feel like they stole something from me ... wasn't a pleasant feeling at all kinda scary and cold . The people in the front is nice but when you get to the back the people who help you in the back does not do a good job... I show them some of my paper work at my other hospital I was in couple days before and they took copy of it without my consent . But when I ask for a paper with result and about my visit they won't give it to me . Every hospital give you a summary of your visit but this place did not I don't think they do things legal they should be shut down!!!! read more

We went to the ER here, not a very busy day- we are still here now, we have waited 5 hours, we will NOT be coming here again! On a side note our interactions with staff were pleasant, they brought the patient a nice dinner but nothing for the people waiting with him (which is totally understandable- however no info was given to patient or supporters about food or where the rest of us could get food after being there five hours. MOST- staff treated us horribly. They would not answer our questions, and when we requested to speak with alternate staff members we were not given the opportunity. After about 3.5 hours is when we started to question the staff about the time- stating that we just need an estimate on time. We also informed staff that if the wait was going to be this long, and we were facing an emergency, they should let us know so we could opt to receive help elsewhere. Twice when we inquired/expressed frustration staff said "oh I just got on" or "I don't normally work here" but when we requested to speak with someone else, we were told ok. But literally watched the MA sit outside our room 5feet away and she didn't budge. We rang for the nurse- the Same MA said "do you need to speak with the nurse?" Umm... When the specialist we were waiting for finally arrived 5.5 hours later- she was fantastic! So kind, apologetic for the rest of our experience, incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. She told us that she just got on her shift- none of that was relayed to us- when we asked at least 5 times. While she was consulting the patient other staff came in requesting the specialists assistance, the specialist (appeared) appalled that staff would come in without knocking or announcement and told staff she would be there when she was done with patient. Specialist spent an extensive amount of time with patient she was very thorough, kind, offered many resources. After she left another staff came in and yelled because an hour prior two support people were with patient and only one was allowed. When staff came in only one support person was present. Support person said we didn't know of the rule- sorry, we had been there 5.5 hours and no one said anything, and only one support person had been in the room the last hour. Staff stated that she had no idea there were 2 support people prior, support person said, maybe if staffed checked in on patient- EVER within the last 5.5 hours they would know. This was not well received. Every time we wanted an update on approximate time the response given was that they had "no idea" or "soon". Some staff- one in particular was AMAZING Faculty was clean, just floored we have been here so long and STILL haven't be seen. I think it's a mix up so we keep asking now, every hour. I was hoping that would give them an out, but nope! If you don't have time or staff to see patients tell them how long it is going to be so we can make a choice to go elsewhere. read more

Went into the Emergency Room early Sunday morning with horrible hives and sick to my stomach. Doctor barley looked at me and said it was caused by a virus, prescribed three medications (including an awful steroid), and charged me $850. Turns out it was actually an allergic reaction and my actual doctor said that only an idiot would miss that and prescribe the dumb cocktail of drugs. STAY AWAY! I should wear a medical wristband that warns emergency responders to keep me out of that cesspool of incompetence. PS, friend had a similar experience in the past. read more

Went with my daughter to her colonoscopy procedure. They told her she would be paying $2,300 out of pocket. She went in crying. Who does that? Very unprofessional and a complete lack of concern. I've been to their urgent care before. The staff was expressionless and seemed extremely unhappy, I even tried to make a joke.. no expression. The doctor got very snotty with my husband when he questioned why the doctor was taking so long. I don't know if they aren't paid well or the management is bad, but stay away if you can. read more

Very efficient. I was hospitalized for four days during Covid so could have NO visitors. I went to Urgent Care and they worked with my insurance to have me admitted and contacted my doctor the following morning.The doctors and all my nurses were so kind. Checking on me frequently, making sure I was warm enough, comfortable and making sure I wasn't scared or too lonely. I was on iv fluids and couldn't have anything by mouth. They made sure I had ice chips and kept me updated on how I was responding to the meds and what I could expect. My room was large and comfortable. I was very pleased with my care during my stay. They have always been good and as quick as then can with all the circumstances. I see dr. Do and at the regular Clinic. I've never seen a happier staff, every time I go in everybody so pleasant including the doctor, and it is absolutely amazing knowing how hectic it must really be, from check in to seeing the doctor to check it out it the friendliest staff I've ever been around. really makes me happy to be part of that.. read more

Forced me to use workmans comp. I work for a tribe and don't use L&I, so I had to pay $140 for workmans comp forms that were useless in the first place. I waited over an hour in the emergency room. They put a rediculous splint on my finger that literally fell off in less than 10 minutes. That was after I waited over an hour for someone to come back and tell me I could leave. I was charged over $2600. For a splint I could have purchased at dollar tree. I had to have my whole bill resubmitted under my insurance like I wanted to do in the first place. Then they screwed that up and didn't apply the proper insurance discount. My final bill after insurance ended up being over $600. I payed in full yesterday and will NEVER go to this hospital again. NONE of my coworkers, family, or friends will EVER go to this hospital. The reception was a joke. The doctor was a joke. The only person that did their job was the x-ray tech. Took my elderly 91 year old mother to the Emergency room at the Covington MultiCare Medical Center where they diagnosed her with a broken back. A week later she was in an excruciating amount of pain so I took her back there. There were several people in the waiting room when we arrived and more arrived after us. My mother waited in a wheel chair for two hours before she was even checked in by a triage nurse, although several people who arrived after us with less severe conditions such as runny noses were triaged before her. I stated that she was in an incredible amount of pain. They took her temperature and blood pressure, which was quite high, but never bothered to ask if she was having any difficulty breathing or if she had any chest pain. We were sent back to the waiting room and told that they didn't know how long of a wait because they were "real busy". Another hour or more went by as we watched people who arrived after us with obvious less critical conditions being called back and given a room while my mother who had been sitting for hours in pain in a wheel chair with a broken back was ignored. I approached the front desk to again impress upon them that she was in extreme pain and needed to be seen and mentioned that several people who came after us had already been called in. I was told they had certain procedures that they had to follow about who is seen first and it wasn't in the order they arrived. We waited another hour or so. By this time my mother was in very bad shape. Her face and skin had become flush and she was trembling uncontrollably. I went to the desk again and told them she needed to be seen immediately. I was told they might have a room for her in the next 20-30 minutes provided that "no one came in with a more critical condition". I returned to the desk a few minutes later and told them that if they weren't going to see her immediately, I would need to have her taken by ambulance to another hospital since her condition had deteriorated to the point that I could not transport her in my car. I was told "you're welcome to take her to any facility you want". I was in shock at their unprofessional, callous, insensitive, uncaring response. I asked if they could at least call an ambulance so we could take her somewhere else. They refused and told me I would have to call 911. Unbelievable!! I was going to have to call 911 to have an ambulance pick up my mother from the emergency room of one hospital to take her to another hospital because they refused to see her!! Only after the people at the front desk heard me speaking to 911 did someone come out to address the situation. I was told that they were "now preparing a room" and "it would be ready soon". The medics arrived very quickly and immediately attended to my mother. When they called for an ambulance, a nurse angrily approached me and asked "so, are you refusing a room??" I told her that I had been begging them to see my mother for 5 hours and now she had the audacity to ask me if I was refusing a room, which she did for the sole purpose of reporting that I was the one refusing service. The irony of having medics and an ambulance at an emergency room of a hospital to take my 91 year old mother to a different hospital is beyond belief. She was taken to Swedish where she was seen immediately. I'm now waiting to see if my mother is going to be billed for them checking her blood pressure and temperature during her 5 hour wait. UPDATE: After I posted this review, I received a message from Brittney L. asking for my contact information to put me in touch with their patient advocacy team. This situation with my mother happened last week. I've already talked to a patient advocate. A woman called me the following morning after the situation occurred to "see how my mother was doing". I spoke to her at length and gave her all the information about what happened. She said she would pass it on. I haven't heard anything back from anyone. read more

This review is for their emergency department. Brought my newborn baby here because he showed signs of an ear infection. Dr checked his ears and told me "his ears look fantastic". My mommy instinct told me something was not right. Before leaving to the emergency room I had notice brown discharge from his ear, the ER Dr told me it was just ear wax. So I took my baby to his pediatrician and sure enough my kid has a double ear infection. What the ER Dr said was ear wax was actually discharge like I had thought. These people here are a crock of shit, let me tell you why! Some lady called me the next day to follow up, I told her that the Dr missed my baby's double ear infection. She made an excuse for the Dr stating that the ear infection probably just developed and when that happens, dr's won't be able to see anything. I told her that's impossible because I mentioned the discharge and was told it was ear wax and she replied "well, did you give him Tylenol that night to keep him comfortable?" REALLY???? Go kick rocks bare foot lady. Thank god it was just an ear infection, if it was something much worse, I am sure they would be having a lawsuit in their hands. read more

Not happy with Multicare billing. I call for 194.16$ bill I got in mail I wanna confirm about this bill ,and she provide me wrong balance 2,225.55 . She say I own2,225.55 not 194.16 $ she our system adjusted by mistake. (And this amounts already paid by my insurance) she say your insurance is denied this claim. She try to collect 2,225.55 from me . And she say I owe this to Multicare. She ( Jen)say you call your insurance to confirm. I call my insurance spent 1 hour to figure this out. My insurance find all amount is payed or adjusted back in may 5 months ago. just need pay minor detectable. She send statements about that . I go back and call Multicare billing (253) 459-7956 this time another lady answer the phone. sandy say you not owe that balance just pay 194.16 $ there is nothing extra due in system. And request for Jen again to confirm she is not making that 2,225.55. $ on my account finally 20-30 min hold she call me back during the call and say that information is not good amount is adjusted by our system it's not paid by insurance. She is keep saying your insurance is non contracted. I say it's emergency department bill . All emergency bills is payed by my insurance it's included the plan. I say why you provide me wrong information!! She your insurance is non contracted it's not paid by insurance. SHE HANG UP on me. I call back and and spoke with lady (syndya maybe sorry for any wrong name pronunciation or spelling) ask for supervisor she say she is in meting she call you back on you phone she make note to supervisor. Over all horrible experience putting me in stress without any reason . Very bad customer service. Suggestions Multicare user -- Avoid Emergency Room That multiple billing department you are getting bills from all over multiple billing department. You have to pay for PHY bill extra even there no Doctor during your treatment. read more

Was admitted to this hospital and it was honestly the most awful experience of my life. They discharged me prematurely, even though I was still in a great deal of pain and barely able to walk. I shared my experience with co-workers the next day who then insisted that I go to a different medical facility where they know several of the medical staff. I agreed and went with them and lo and behold, Covington Multicare missed a bone fracture which was what was causing all of my pain. Also wanted to note that the ER staff at Multicare Covington were great to me, it was only after I was admitted and transferred to the 4th floor that I came across the most callous, cold, insensitive and uncaring medical staff I have ever encountered. All 3 of the PA's I saw were awful and acted as though I was exaggerating my pain. And the nursing staff were equally unkind. I'm glad I followed the advice of my co-workers and am now getting the care I should have received all along. read more

Everything was spelled out for me and I was advised of what was going to happy every step of the way. Couldn't have asked for a better team in, Harpreet, Dennis, and Dr. Puig. My Primary Care Physician is in the family practice of the Covington MultiCare. or, FORMER primary care. i've been a patient of Dr. Maricar DeGuzman-Abajero has been my primary care doctor for nearly 8 years. she used to be an amazing doctor very thorough very observant. but in the past 2 years ive had nothing but problems. with not just her but the entire multicare system. ill start with Dr. DeGuzman. she is a very friendly woman and shes generally very nice to me. but shes ALWAYS 30 to 45 minutes behind. and when you finally get back into a room shes almost rushing to get you out the door. i have very complex medical needs and her solution is to shovel pills down my throat. i seen her every month for nearly a year and my blood pressure was always high. every. single. time. she says, well lets see what it is next month and we will adjust your BP meds. and months went by and nothing was changed. i have anxiety and she was putting me on antidepressants but none of them were working so every month it was a new drug she wouldnt give me more than a few valium which is really the only thing that helped. it was a battle to get on pain medications that helped control my chronic pain, she never sent me for testing. come to find out i have degenerative disk disease in my back which is why my pain is so sever. but my last visit with her, and my final nearly cost me my life. 2 months ago we i expressed the ssri she had me taking wasnt helping with my anxiety it was just getting worse. and i told her i didnt want to take them anymore i wanted to take the valium instead because thats what helped. but because they're "habit forming" she wouldn't give them to me and told me... again to wait until my next visit which i did. on that visit i brough it up again. and instead of taking me off the ssri that i didnt want to be taking, she doubled the dose because the valium are habit forming. well i dont see the difference between giving me 15 or giving me 30 for the month. if i were to get addicted i would get addicted having the 15. it just didnt make sense to me. but to cover her own but, or to follow multicare policy or for whatever her reason was she doubled the dose of the SSRI i was taking. and that night i had a sever reaction and ended up nearly dying. i was taken to the emergency room by ambulance and they told my family to say their goodbyes. i went from healthy to dying in a 48 hour period of time and i place the blame souly on the negligence of this doctor and the MultiCare hospital. after 6 hours in the er i was transferred to the icu and spent 4 days there in critical condition when i was considered no longer critical i was transferred to a rehabilitation center. i went through the most traumatic experience of my life because my doctor wouldnt listen to me. this is not the first time either. i feel like she is rather careless the past few years. i only stayed with her for so long becuase i was comfortable with her. but no longer will i. most of the staff is rude. and inconsiderate. frankly unless you need a routeen checkup the family practice is basically useless. this is the absolute final straw. i have to live with the fact that i came very, very. VERY close to loosing my life at 23 years old. when i was transferred into the rehab center the doctor there was genuinely baffled with the types of meds she had put me on in the past and present. he said she had prescribed me drugs that i had no business taking. HE suggested that i take valium to control my anxiety as i had said to my primary many times. i survived, but i urge you, do not use this clinic. if youre healthy and need a yearly checkup.. fine but if you have serious medical illnesses and you need specilized care do not use multicare. read more

If you decide to go to the Urgent care here you might as well just walk next door to the emergency room, because that is where you will end up. My daughter went to the Urgent care twice and both times they said she needed some test done, do they wheeled her to the ER for them. We will never go to Multi care again, they no longer care about the patient, only the money that their new ER can charge you. read more

I thought I should be checked out at Urgent Care. Went into urgent care. They asked a couple questions and immediately wheeled me into ER. Without any preliminary tests. ER didn't think it was serious enough to be seen in ER. They ran some "tests" (urine, blood work, "follow my finger") that could have/should have been done in Urgent Care. Just to "do something?" Released me within an hour. Billed for both Urgent Care & ER. Nice. read more

Quality of care is not too great here, sad to say. I went to the ER on 6/28/19 for chest pains. The front desk person was friendly and efficient. 2 of the nurses were good, hence why the 2 stars. The rest of the care team was really lacking. From the CT tech, who was complaining about everything, the Male nurse seemed like it was a bother to do his job, and then after being there for 4 hrs to leave still wondering what was going on with my chest pains. After all the labs and imaging, I did not see anyone until the shift change nurse came in to release me. I had to ask her what did all my results show and what was the prognosis? Let's just say I had to guess on my own. I will be going to another facility further away from home if the need arises again. Someone needs to find out why the Patient care of this ER is lacking. A bad reputation here unlike the remodel and new building takes years to repair. read more

went to emergency room Covington in march for what I thought might be a pre stroke dr wrote it up as dehydration my insurance didn't pay the bill now they say I owe 440000. this is not a joke. Multicare had ruined my life and my family now they going to put me in prison tjhs is no joke i am do scared. All they care about is money read more

Emergency department? ZERO stars. Urgent care department? Four stars. OB/GYN? Five stars. Day surgery? Five stars. Radiology dept? Four stars. I've been a patient here since before they had an emergency facility. I would easily rate this group as four to five stars up to that point. But the emergency room has soured my taste so much that I will purposely avoid going here for anything except Dr. Wallace with OB/GYN. Without oversharing, I can say I was in pain severe enough to make me blackout and waited over four hours before seeing a physician in the ER, by which time things were improving on their own and I was no longer passing out in their waiting room. I am educated in medical care and the triage system and don't go in unless it's truly an emergency I can't handle at home, and can say this is a poorly staffed hospital. I understand the balance of staffing emergency rooms that wax and wane from one patient to thirty within hours, but this is my second visit where the wait time for my issue was completely unreasonable. There was only one physician and one physician assistant on a busy Saturday evening to see patients. With this thin staffing, poor service, and minimal care, you'd think the bill would be reasonable. Not so! I (and my insurance) was billed almost twice as much as I was for faster, more thorough, and more appropriate care given the following week at the Auburn Multicare Hospital for the same issue. If this had been my first issue with Covington Multicare ER, I would chalk it up to a learning curve in staffing and appropriate emergency care. But, unfortunately, my issue is a recurrent one and I've experienced this same level of wait, poor service, and excessive billing from Covington Multicare ER in the past. In regards to the excessive billing, it's not often you can compare your charges for the same exact services (nor would you want to experience your health issues repeatedly to do so), but I found it very interesting how much more this hospital bills you than their Auburn counterpart for the "emergency services" which includes the room, staff, etc; the "injections/infusions", etc. When laid out side by side as billed to the insurance company, this place is a racket, seeing how much they can eek out of our insurance companies (which then trickles down to us as patients depending on our insurance coverage). And don't forget - The bill from Multicare Emergency is only the start. Then you get the bill from the contracted physician (not part of multicare) and the radiologist (if you get any actual diagnostics, also, while the imaging is in multicare...its not actually a multicare employee reading it) and lab services (also, while in multicare, is not always multicare). One good thing about the last big bill (the multicare portion)? They are nice enough to let you pay them off in payments. Then I get to keep reliving the fun in monthly allotments since their contracted groups already took what I had to pay multicare with! This is common in other hospitals too and more a failure of our medical system, but it just adds another level of billing joy and extra charges when already paying for unexpected medical costs in cases of emergencies. read more
