The walk is more pleasant and easier on the eyes than some stuffy gym on a treadmill. A bit of nature and water is welcomed. The way seemingly every square inch of land is being built on makes the open space of the bat more appreciated.

I have to be honest, one of the BIGGEST things I miss about Alameda! Hidden beautiful trails, well not going to be hidden for long if I keep Yelping, lol. My stress reliever (not that I have stress...). I really enjoy the bay and lagoon walks; they are so beautiful, relaxing, people friendly, etc. Families all around, people fishing on the bay, etc. Pedestrian and bike friendly! Paved and unpaved (for mountain bikes). Bathrooms every half mile or so - Nothing to rave about, but at least it is clean. Picnic tables, BBQ grills, benches, etc. Some reservations may be needed/required; see ARPD website ($55/hour, 3 hour minimum). Special ferry to SF on weekdays. Nearby lagoons, parks, play structures, etc. Atmosphere - Beautiful views of The Bay, lagoons, and SF. Service - Self-service. Price - Free. We parked in what I would describe as the South Parking Lot. On a Thursday afternoon, there were very few cars in a large parking lot. On weekends, it can be a bit more crowded. We parked facing the park and there are two picnic tables available there. Just past those tables is a playground, where there were a few kids playing. Then there are baseball fields, no games going on. We didn't go exploring. We just grabbed a table, spread out our food, tied our dog to our bench and enjoyed our grub. The sun was warm. The winds calm. We finished eating, cleaned up and left.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Lets get hammered in the park!!! No, no, thats not a good idea. For we must think of the children. Somebody must think of the children!!! And children you will find here. Play structure and tennis courts. Soccer field and basketball. Now we must be good influence to the next generation. We won't have any of that. Parking lot is tiny - somehow you will find a spot - I think this is a locals mostly park that walk here. Soccer field is nice and short. Some lines drawn on it - shockingly nice for Hayward. Tennis courts are toward the back. You might not even notice them on your first visit. Tons of rose bushes. Very elegant curvy paths cut through all the bushes. The flowers are varied with different colors and types. Very well taken care of but I did notice some aphids on one bush - you can never have perfect roses. Bathrooms and water fountain. I didn't go in the bathrooms but the water fountain had a nice strong stream. HAARD might have some office space here in the form of taking over an old historic house. Not sure the deal with it but very interesting. If I had to guess some wealthy person 100 years ago owned the house and surrounding land and donated it to the city. If you live in Hayward - this is a must see - at least once. See if its for you. And if your gonna booze it up - maybe put it in a water bottle.

Oh my goodness that's so long ago. Meek Park today is still as lovely as I remembered it, but even better because they now have the water fountain flowing. The grounds are maintained well with beautiful lush grass and pretty flowers. I also saw some cute cats in their garden area. They have a parking lot with plenty of spots. The playgound looks whimsy and elegant at the same time. I'm so happy that their poop bag stations have actual poop bags! I had poop bags with me, but it's just so helpful when a park also provides poop bags as well just in case people need them. I think they have a restroom area if I remember correctly. I know there was an area with plenty of picnic tables.

The whole park is fenced off, with locking gates to the parking lot. There are many paved trails here, along with picnic areas and playgrounds. There are always people here walking the trail along the outer edge of the park. I have not yet been inside of the mansion, but this park is nice enough to go to on its own. But checking out the inside of this mansion is definitely on my to do list!!!!

Wet soil loosens the roots and they are known to kill people. More younger shade trees. Much needed. Hot, bad choice of non native trees. No view. 3 out of 5 tail wags.

I went around 4:30pm during the week after putting it off since last July. It was a pleasant walk with lavender fragrant lavender bushes along the way. This walk leads onto the beach across from South Shore and I really wanted to keep going, but it was getting too dark. The pics I posted are from on the way back. Definitely worth checking out. I loved seeing all of the fur babies along the trail too!

(my huge claim to fame is that I quite literally lived across the street from Xmas Tree Lane (Thompson). So cool every year walking with my coffee mug, and not having to bear the nutsoness of driving my way out of that mayhem. The region of Alameda between the main isle and Harbor Bay/Bay Farm island is a wonderland of nature and beauty, views and water, sea breeze and outdoor happiness. This little Towata park is found just before the bridge crossing over into Bay Farm, just off Otis Dr. Turn right into a space that allows for about 10 parked cars, and from there, enjoy the underpass to the blue pedestrian bridge which parallels the auto one, and enjoy the water from both sides!!! It's really very special, this ability to walk out toward the estuary side and see rabbits and chipmunks, and lizards too. Facing McAfee and the Oakland hills, I came to circle the golden round of Shoreline Park that juts into the water, taking a peek at the Aegean marina folk and the activity on their boats today. On the other side, after making the mile+ circle, one can opt to turn onto the wooden-planked bridge to cross over to the shores of Bay Farm Island.... with gorgeous views of the Bay... Lovely piece of Alameda enchantment. And awesome weather to boot.

Other people like to come here and smoke and space out too. You can walk along the river maybe if you've got a dog that isn't spoiled rotten they will love this place - not Baby Wrinkles tho - she likes the Marina Green in the city. She expects views of the Golden Gate Bride, hundreds of people complimenting her smile and thinks the Blue Angels come to wow her and her alone. But yeah - that wall... I come here to look at it for obvious reasons. Its creepy if you get what I mean. There is a narrow 3 foot opening next to a picnic table perfectly placed for your viewing pleasure.
